Here’s the ugly truth: the current PvP meta isn’t about gunfights or outplaying your opponent. It’s about crouching around corners, waiting for someone to wander by so you can team-shoot them with a Pulse Rifle. It’s about sitting in spawn, just waiting for abilities to refresh because apparently, that’s how you win now. How can that be fun? How did we get here?
The meta has devolved into this slow, camping fest. Instead of pushing, people just crouch and pray for the perfect moment to unload their super. The only time teams actually push is when they’re holding hands and have their abilities ready to pop. And don’t get me started on the easy-mode ARs and Pulses that make gun skill a joke. This isn’t PvP; it’s PvStandStill.
And then there’s Iron Banner… A mode that’s supposed to reward skill and encourage exciting play has become a two-week camping marathon. Forcing us to endure this gameplay style for so long is downright exhausting. At this point, it feels like Bungie is just throwing everything into Mayhem—abilities everywhere, supers over supers, with no room for real strategy or skill.
Let’s be honest: Bungie’s desperately chasing the casual player, making everyone feel strong right out of the gate. What’s the result? PvP is dying. We’ve all noticed it. Nobody’s talking about it, but it’s clear. The game modes are becoming stale, and camping and crouching have become the default playstyle. The spark is gone.
Has Bungie painted themselves into a corner? It sure feels like it. PvP isn’t about skill anymore—it’s about participation trophies and waiting for your super to charge. How did we go from adrenaline-fueled matches to this slow, methodical crawl around the map?
I don’t know if it’s fixable at this point. But one thing’s clear: this isn’t fun anymore.

You forgot to mention team balance. I played one IB yesterday and the winning team went from 15.0 to 6.5 kd all 5 from a clan with me as the one random. The other team was all randoms and the highest kd was 1.0 and dropped from there. What a terrible experience for the other team. You are right it doesnt feel fun anymore.

I hate it but it adds to the challenge. I'm still gonna try to snipe a pulse or scout but usually ends bad for me in 6v6. 😆

5 RepliesYou are just one of those kids who only want to play a handcannon meta and destiny has always been a handcannon meta for 10 years. Use something else.
-
2 RepliesLook up the most used pvp weapons. Hand cannons and shotguns by far. Hand cannons have the highest bullet magnetism compared to all other primaries. That'ds why a hunter can shoot while jumping up and down, dodge and peek shoot, etc... and hit all crits. Shotguns are the biggest panic button in PvP. Far too many abilities hold a player still while not being able to fight back. It's camping or running laps, invisible with shotgun or spamming abilities. I like side arms or smg and 8/10 engagements where I'm shooting someone they switch shotgun, and I'm dead before I can kill them. Players only use the easiest weapons to get kills with which makes 99% of all the other cool weapons collect dust in the vault. Very little duels anymore and only 7-10 different guns used in PvP.

6 RepliesAbsolutely comical to me how they tried to experiment so much with checkmate and now we’re right back to ability/special ammo spam LOL
-
20 RepliesNo, we don’t want your bs last word and adored meta. And no we don’t want HC shotty either.

The slow stuff is about as good as its going to get for who that's for. Sometimes I wonder whether that's what really drew most people to PvP even if they have trouble with it when its not slow.

1 ReplyBro this is how console is. This is why I hate the current Iran banner but honestly 6s as a whole bc these rat playstypes are so successful in these huge maps with lots of people plus hunters with there smoke and decoys messing ur radar. It's been driving me crazy how so many bots be playing like this. Like stop playing like npc and learn to move and stay alive by urself without needing ur whole team holding hands. Can somebody pls rebuff clouds trike so I can play 6s again without these people holding nutz

How did we get here?
Y'all got here because of two reasons. Firstly, because they moved all of their PvP people off of Destiny and onto Marathon and put the Crucible into maintenance mode in 2020 when Beyond Light came out. They removed half the maps in the game without adding any back, as well as any actual reason to play comp, and then added nothing new for years. When they finally added Disjunction and Rift back into the game in 2022, the mode was literally broken and bugged out 85% of the time. Doing nothing for an entire game mode for several years, and then clearly demonstrating that there wasn't anyone competent working on PvP, caused them to begin losing a significant amount of players. This ultimately fed into the second reason for why Crucible is such dog water right now; the players themselves. When enough players stop playing the game mode, the matchmaking goes to hell. More games become stomp or get stomped, which caused all the whining losers on Reddit and Twitter to throw a hissy fit. So Bungie, in their infinite wisdom, re-implements sbmm thinking it'll get the casuals to play more. After all, letting the 0.6s play with other 0.6s will cause them to get better and show them that PvP is fun, right? Of course not. Those casuals will keep doing what they always did: Play their three games a week for the rewards and bail. Meanwhile, the higher skill brackets will have to endure lag fests that they constantly have to sweat for. When their games feature opponents with 300+ ping on the opposite side of the planet, that's really unfun. So some of those guys leave, which causes some players in a lower skill bracket to get bumped up and deal with the same thing, which causes them to leave, and so on. It creates a negative feedback loop until the skill brackets are so messed up that Bungie is forced to undo sbmm yet again, except by that point no one wants to play anyways. As for the current meta, it's also because of the whining losers on Reddit and Twitter; they cried about "ability spam" and "special crutching", which caused Bungie to start screwing around with different cooldowns and ammo systems to try and appease those losers (which of course, failed). So now you're back to a janky pseudo-D1Y1 system that promotes camping and hand-holding. TLDR: Bungie sucks, but the casual player base asked for it.

1 ReplyThe slowness in this game is a result of defensive abilities being too powerful, and AE being in the game. Too much ability utility, and additionally punishment for taking an objectively harder to win engagement (being in the air), are two things that groomed everyone into playing scared and slow.

I’m a long-time PvP player and i play significantly less because I get annoyed very quickly by people sitting back with pulse rifles and then trying to shotgun me on confrontation. It’s super annoying and it’s like the people that it works for are saying to themselves, “i’ll just sit back patiently and wait!” And then when no one is coming, “it’s ok, I’ll sit back and wait more patiently than they are sitting back patiently and waiting!” I get so freaking annoyed I just play Harvest Moon now

9 RepliesA forum goer “s” would tell you pulses are perfectly balanced and hand cannons are meta. Ironically over half of his kills in crucible come from pulses. It’s a terrible meta and have always said pulse metas are the worst. They promote camping

7 RepliesEdited by Seiryoku: 9/21/2024 3:22:18 PMYou're absolutely right. It's been going on this trend. Pulses/autos/120s should never be at the top. People don't move up. We have talked about this since Disjunction release with long distance maps weighted. Headseeker on 340s means you don't have to aim. Khvostov is entirely too potent. Precision weaponry is punished too hard in this current design. It's awful. We are also going to return to Titans having the most health, the best movement, over shields, dodges, healing on knockout that still rubberbands.... They should quickly announce how they will be making Warlocks better Mages and how Hunters will be better Rogues. How movement stat will be relevant beyond strafe speed and jump height when the tank can literally fly around and use a Dodge. Tied to a stat they never have to sacrifice. I think all the positive changes that came before final shape are all but eradicated. Abilities are rampant. Checkmate changes that changed the pacing of the game might as well have never happened.

PvP hasn’t been fun since 30th anniversary, bunch of clueless devs

2 RepliesSounds like you want to play a different game. Fortnight or warzone. Camping is slang for, defending an area. Crouching is slang for, reducing your 'kill zone' There is nothing wrong with either strategy and tactic. You should just do that, then post screen shots of all the owning you do.
-
5 RepliesIf only there was some way you could tell if there was someone crouching behind a wall. Like if Bungie could put something somewhere on the screen, off to the side, to let you know there's enemies nearby. Something similar to the minimap from cod but it doesn't show the map layout or exact enemy locations. You know what I mean? Nothing too crazy, just something on your screen you can look at that looks kinda like a compass but works more like a heartbeat sensor from cod. Like, if I were to be playing crucible and there was someone behind a wall, it would be wicked cool if there was something on my HUD that would alert me to that fact, something simple like a patch of colour in the general direction of the enemies location. Maybe one day we'll have something like that, until then I guess I'll just have to resort to aimlessly wandering around corners where the entire enemy team is, getting killed, then blaming them for my lack of skill

This post is a case study in why a developer shouldn’t pander, for years in a game with so many weapons and play styles, to one particular set of weapons. In this case, hand cannons and shotguns. At this point, the DNA of the game, including map style, TTK and ability up-time have all been based on the most adopted style of play. Any time the META shifts towards anything else, players lose their mind, and clamor for the game to return to the status quo. This is partially for good reason, as every other META has been an experiment and was a temporary orbit from the rule of HC/Shotgun with little to no time to develop the game towards balance. I predict we’ll be right back to Hand cannon dominance in the coming seasons.
-
2 RepliesD2 PVP feels soulless at this point. Play COD or APEX for a classic, rewarding PVP experience. Play D2 for PVE with the remaining 58 players.

It’s the current map cycle. Why fly in guns blazed my to fight 3 people solo. You gonna lose. Control is different. I just don’t get what you guys keep complaining about everything. When a fireteam sticks together. Someone posts oh nobody wants to 1v1 skilled fighting. When players go solo. It’s omg these noobs don’t know how to play as a team. When people were fighting close range with hand cannons. Omg nerf hand cannons, smoke, etc. ok nerf. Then when fight went mid range. Omg nerf Auto. Fight goes long range nerf sniper. Maybe introduce a mode where every one gets the loot they want regardless of outcome. Seriously you guys cry about changing instead of adapting.

19 RepliesEdited by Kiro - 13: 9/22/2024 2:18:47 AMDestiny 2 PvP should not be part of the formula to onboard new players. As we all know the statistical/analytical horror story, they uninstall the game after one match. I think once they adjust 340s which is inevitable, PvP will be is a healthier place. Their are still a few outliers beyond that as well(looking at you Storms Edge) but as long as Bungie does nothing too bone headed PvP looks to be heading in the right direction. & lets be real when people are using their weapons Destiny 2 has some of the best if not the best gun play.

18 RepliesThings you mention in this post IS strategy. Not everyone finds the thing You like as fun. Camping is prevalent because it works. When some invades your home. So you rush them? -blam!- no! There's a reason why people do that. You may want to redefine your sense of strategy.
-
14 RepliesI think we need a 340 pulse nerf as in range. I just think every gun has to much range right now thats why most people sit back besides ability spammers

Go play a better pvp game lol nobody cares

Edited by Tis-but-a-scratch: 9/22/2024 10:29:50 PMThere’s more than 1 way to skin a cat. Just cause what works for someone else isn’t what you like doesn’t mean there’s a problem. Adapt and overcome. Or is it that skill only applies to one’s opinion.

4 RepliesSounds like strategy besting skill to me.

8 RepliesOk Ima state this again. You people need to learn what TEAMWORK is. The term "team shooting" is absolute nonsense, except under one circumstance... The correct meaning of "team shooting" is a game or mode in which friendly fire is an active feature, and if you shoot your teammates, they die. THAT is team shooting. I would even accept "team shooting" in reference to teammates blocking your shots, but generally that's just called blocking. What you described is literally called teamwork. This reason is one of a number, why I don't engage LFG. This playerbase has almost no concept of teamwork. You are not special. You work with your teammates to outwit your opponents and gain advantage. You do not win solely because of you or any one person, unless they're God, or cheating. If you are correctly working together, there will be a good number of assists between teammates. That's just how it goes, oh well. Some matches you'll have alot, others barely any. Its not a bad thing. That means you're being effective together. If you can't handle teamwork, and get upset because they "stole" your kill, then stay in anything free for all, and stay out of everything else that requires any kind of team awareness on any level. The game balance itself is factually atrocious though. Do not expect that to change. This studio gets upset when they have to treat it like a business. Its been 10+ years of this. If the intent to fix anything existed, or there was enough competence to do so, it would have been done long ago. Also, truly controlling a field in anything point capture, may require some kind of effective camping. Plant and defend. Running around is just fine too, however, because both are needed to some degree. Though spawn camping is just a b*tch move, and truly is nonsense. Its another thing if you do actually just happen to be where someone spawns by chance. That happens. Crouching... So if I see red on the radar, I usually stop and wait, or at least proceed with extreme caution, which sometimes invloves crouching. It is situational. Crouch spammers? Definitely Idiots; all of them. Ban incoming, but thank you for easy headshots, spammers🫡. Crouching behind cover, either stationary, or on the move is essential at times. Its not a bad thing. Its annoying if they get you, but its still a valid tactic. Ok I'm done now.
