Increasing the power level doesn't matter when every activity is capped

Mostly headline. Everything in the game is power capped now, so why are we grinding for light levels? It doesn't make any sense. Light level is irrelevant. Endgame players don't have to do anything. Every raid and dungeon is -5, every strike is +0 or -5 (can't remember which). Seasonal activities, patrols, everything is capped. If we're going to make light level grinding s relevant part of the game again, then the ability to overlevel these activities has to come back. Otherwise we are quite literally just making big numbers go up without any benefit to the player. Please. You are bringing back the worst part of grinding, the +10 seasonal light level grind, but you didn't bring the back the best part of grinding, which is being over leveled on older activities. For the love of God, don't do this, it's going to drive even more people away.

  • Remove the caps like it was during witch queen. If bungie decided to bring it back due to data showing player engagement with activities that awards a pinnacle has dropped with no light increase per season I believe there's a very good chance they will go back to letting players over level most things and just have GMs, legendary campaigns and contest mode raids and now dungeons that cap player's. Hopefully they do.

    I'm certain the primary reason they're doing this is to minimize the amount of people running the contest mode dungeon so it's mostly streamers. They hoard bounties and/or have their weekly content optimized to the point they can finish it all in 5 minutes and be encounter capped the exact moment it drops Bungie doesn't like when rando teams get world first. They want streamers to win.

      It's just a time waster. You're right. If leveling is ever going to make sense, the handicaps need to go.

    • Yep. Long term I still stand by my feedback that capped power as a whole just needs to go from the game. Let people overlevel content if they want, it gives a purpose to chase pinnacle level and then more continually, XP. If people are so adamant about wanting a challenge, then throw an option to toggle off / on bonus power as well, but let the people who just want to have fun have their fun. Even as a non-active player, the decision to increase pinnacle power by another 10 points without removing caps completely baffles me.

    • Could it be that the players that are left playing this game understand it better than the lead developers? It's almost like someone saw complaints about feeling underpowered and told their team to raise the power level - not knowing it's doesn't matter because the enemies scale up with the players. iirc, this actually happened with a game from another company.

What's the point of leveling up if everything is limited... wow, that's so logical, it was like when there was an old leveling system and we could level up and complete a difficult mission... Do they just do it in the hope that people will spend more time in the game? When there's nothing attractive in the game and old activities haven't been reworked in any way... This company doesn't learn anything and we see the result getting worse and worse every day!! The best balance was with the release of WQ!!

            • I would be okay with it if they removed infusion. I use a lot of weapons and I tried to get everything in my vault to 2k PL this season so I wouldn't have to worry about infusing again until next expac.

              Overleveling of activities contributes to the Power Fantasy component and a direct corollary reward to spending time playing the game as long as "XP Goes Up" means "Power Goes Up." It's fine with me that Artifact Level contributes to the Overleveling in addition to the Gear Level now that the Dreanaught Defense Force is no longer scripted. You want to grind 12 hours a day in Gambit for 14 days? You want to stand in a dark, dank, damp puzzle dungeon and smack taken thrall around for hours on end? Fine. Go for it. Knock yourself out.

              • They're miserably attempting to keep us on a hamster wheel at any cost. Whether it's logical or illogical. If we are returning to grinding for light levels. It's time to reinstate that +20 overlevel threshold (or was it 10 idr). There's only two places the no life extensive power should really count.........(I'm talkin doing like +100 artifact power). Aside from that +20 everywhere else. GMNFs and Master Raids. Contribute to the power fantasy without breaking the borders. Bungie were very close once. But swung the pendulum to far in the hard sector.

                • While it doesn't bother me,I think they mainly did it because of the dungeon contest mode.Getting all those players who will be competing in it grinding to get their light level up will probably boost numbers playing the 1st few days of episode

                  • Agreed. Can't wait to be 3000+ so I can one-shot everything in old world patrols with prim ammo....cause that's about all its good for.

                    • I agree that the power increase was unneeded. But I also could not possibly care less about the lack of overleveling. Just unnecessary for where the game is currently IMO.

                      • It's only 10 levels. I don't think it's as big of a deal like many are making it out to be. We have 4 months to get to the pinnacle cap again. Just playing passively will get you to that.
