Outside of a few select encounters, I still don’t think it’s a good idea to use a sword in most content, as most battles are designed against running straight into a boss or crowd of enemies with a sword for many reasons (though it would be a little goofey to see someone not get punished), such as,
enemy damage will tear you apart on higher difficulties, enemies & bosses flying over or off the map, you need to stand on a plate, and lastly, boss stomps that scorch the area.
Next most sword perks are just bad in general, the “good perks” haven’t changed at all, relentless strikes is the only good ammo perk, whirlwind blade is the king of ease, bait & switch is okay, but you need to go out of your way to keep it active, collective action is only good with stasis titan, & cold steel is only good for champions, not raw damage,
What about flash counter? duelists trance? en guard? shattering blade? All too situational, too niche or just not enough, eager edge doesn’t even count since it’s a travel perk.
Archetypes are the next problem as well, anything that isn’t an adaptive frame has a problem, from lower damage per swing, slower swing speed, bad ammo economy to higher ammo consumption for a lacking heavy attack, swords that aren’t adaptives are simply better off not using the heavy attack at all.
I’ve had fun using swords before, but fun doesn’t mean viable.

Hmm I agree about archetype diversity but swords have already carved out their niche. Also with the addition of prismatic you can stack multiple sources of healing along with multiple sources of damage resist. You also have song of flame for some cases

13 RepliesErgo sum caster 5th is top dps. New wave frame heavy is nothing to scoff at and with attrition orbs provides a nice utility especially this season with argent blade

1 ReplyMelee in this game is an afterthought and it shows.

1 ReplyI do find it funny that even though Lament wasn't even the best sword and it was well a SWORD they still decided to nerf it.

2 RepliesI wonder if the sword week was a general test. Would it break the game, and how often were they used... 1k voices may have spoiled the party, but could this lead to updates in the future?? 4th weapon slot.. melee weapons. Possibly glaives, bows and swords; that would potentially break the warlords ruin triumph so doubtful. I thought sidearms would be a dedicated weapon slot... back in d1, where all ammo was limited, I thought this would be a separate slot; it won't do crazy damage, but you'll always have a weapon to use. So, another reason for me being wrong... but who knows what might happen.
