Devs, please scrap and focus on Destiny as Marathon is "not going great".
As far as I'm aware, I'm assuming a majority of your playerbase wants Destiny over Marathon.
That should be a very clear indication of where your resources need to be. Thanks.

A whole lot has come out recently for those interested in Marathon. * It's like the call of duty DMZ mode. There is a time limit that involves either oxygen or some hazard level. * It does include added moments of tension thrown in similar to how we guard/defend our ghost while it hacks/opens doors. Infact it's the same lol * It has a similar guardian rank system. Quest are similar to Fortnight challenges (drop on landmarks, discover hidden things in a zone and collect lore) * It does have a battle pass * There are 3 major factions * It has a Call of duty style black market offering blueprints, resource trading, and includes premium monetization. * Perks, rank level, BIOS level, and weapon modding are the progression systems being used to keep players hooked * Time gating is a thing used extensively to keep players logging in. New secrets open up to discover as the season progresses

If they stopped making Marathon, they would cut (fire) those assets, not reassign them to Destiny.

They are not scrapping marathon. They have been working on it for years and it's set to release in 2025. I agree destiny needs a lot more attention. No more annual dlc is a big turn off for me and it sux that bungie let all this happen. Now destiny suffers for it when they should have been working on a D3 instead of a dozen other projects that destiny funded. Servers are garbage, bugs are rampant and very few things get fixed quickly unless it benefits players of course. The game is getting too bloated considering it's lasted twice as long as D1 and far more stuff in this game now. It should have ended with the final shape with D3 on the horizon with a new engine and better servers. I don't plan on playing marathon. Extraction shooters are not my thing. But it's too close to launch to even think of shutting marathon down. For bungies sake, I hope it does well. They need something that brings in more cash flow.

3 RepliesI always thought Marathon was going to be a break out game for the freaks (LBGTIZXRD…whatever) and that they were going to be able to say that people really like playing gay games….pffffffft* and the world is flat. This has always been my interpretation of Marathon, I will never get that game EVER.

meh. you'd be 'pessimistic' too if over 200 co-workers were just let go. that will wear off and they'll be back in business. very possibly more highly motivated than before. and yeah, sux to say that but that's the way the world works sadly

Although, cutting all those employees and slowing down the development of Destiny is a huge mistake. Destiny is literally their money maker and consistently in the top 10 most profitable games, its ludicrous to me that Bungie doesn't understand that they should keep focusing on Destiny. That's like if Jeff Bezos said "screw making amazon better, let's focus on something else that will HOPEFULLY be better"... kinda nonsensical.

1 ReplyIt's bad business to only focus on destiny. They need to make a new game especially if destiny goes down hill further so marathon needs to happen and at least pull good numbers and sales which considering we know next to nothing about it. It might do well

They are not even sure what Marathon is, first it's a extraction shooter, now it's a hero shooter Sounds like like half baked idea if there ever was one My prediction, it will eventually be canceled , accompanied by more layoffs -

They don't make the calls and they never will it's part of the reason gaming is so -blam!- these days, and games like Destiny that could've been in a much better place are not. Looking at people like Pete shows why Destiny is in the very poor state it's in, but it wasn't all him. He had plenty of help from people like Luke, and their streamer buddies who put on a show that they "care about the game". The damage done to this game has left a very bad impression on millions of gamers. This business destroyed a name that used to have meaning. Bungie as gamers know them from Halo days is gone. You will never see that from this greedy lazy business that used you and everyone else to fund their other projects, nothing more nothing less. That's why they kept saying they "don't have the resources" these last few years. They flushed your money down the drain when it could have been useful by investing it into this game. Destiny is dead, it has been for a long time now. No, not in the sense "that it's over or another game will kill it". In the sense of designing a quality type of game to where an actual intelligent developer would have invested your money into the game and made it a lot more successful than just cash grabbing.

So there's an underlying issue with Bungie and almost every company out there which is decades of near 0% borrowing which lead to where we are now. When you have little risk in borrowing at 0% game companies and others over-hired/over-paid and the costs to produce games and the return needed to turn a profit/stay solvent skyrocketed to absurd levels. It's far to expensive now to make anything due to the salaries in the gaming industry/all industries as a whole. There's going to need to be a massive correction across all industries in terms of salaries and what people are worth vs what they think they thought they were worth.

1 ReplyTbh if Marathon was a pve focused story game over a pvp extraction hero shooter I'd honestly would be kinda excited for it but it ain't. I understand the higher ups want money and even it sounds like the devs are getting bored of Destiny but an extraction hero shooter as the next game?

It doesn't seem to be a lack of focus. It seems to be a lack of creativity, talent, and understanding of their playerbase. They focused plenty on TFS, but it still has game breaking flaws for the majority of players. That's why the playerbase keeps dropping and has become apathetic. "Co-op focus" in the core ritual activities has not gone over well. Anyone of any intelligence at all could have predicted that. All that focus and it still resulted in mediocrity.

8 RepliesThe gamble has already been made and hasn’t paid off. This will be the next series of events: Marathon launches to mid reviews and low sales. Bungie is fully taken over by Sony. Destiny is ran by a Sony studio solely for Destiny (maybe called Bungie and have previous Bungie members). Marathon fails within two years due to low playerbase. Destiny will run for a number of years with relatively low investment. Sony will decide to continue this model or make a new game.

I actually find it hilarious that the average bots that upvote posts complaining about difficulty of destiny think they're going to play a game that is purely PvP where you loose your entire kit when you die....

8 RepliesDo people think D2 is going to continue forever? It’s 7 years old (and Destiny is 10 years old). It’s a reasonable idea they want to make something new. New IPs are always risky, but if nobody takes that risk, we’re stuck with the same old games. Delays are pretty standard. Changing the game director to respond to bad feedback is more concerning, but certainly not a guarantee of failure. Let’s see what Marathon is before condemning it to the dustbin.

They don't need half as many employees as Sega, Bethesda makes amazing games on one quarter of bungees employee count. Adding more recipients onto the welfare isn't going to help the situation it's only going to dilute it.
