Let's just start this off by saying my Bungie name was 100% fine. It was funny. My Bungie name was Mara Sov's Sippy Cup. Nothing inherently egregious about it compared to the, I dunno, Mara Sov's Onlyfans, Savathun's Savathussy, I have a guy in the clan I'm in who's MaraSovsDumpTruck, the Mara Sov's Thigh Gap and myriad of other names you can imagine out there. Now, I was perfectly fine last night, I just did a little bit of nightfalls, a quick bit of onslaught and bonfire bash before going to sleep. Then I launch the game, and receive a message about crossplay and a new name being generated. I notice my name is now Guardian8094#8122. So I go to change it thinking it's just an error and I can fix it myself. Nope. So I start looking around and it turns out this message means Bungie actively reviewed my name and reset it. Now, I'm just REALLY confused as to why this happened, because there's no reason anyone would reasonably report my name or my account. I don't play pvp often, if at all. I almost never play gambit. I pretty much exclusively play pve. I'm rarely, if ever toxic, and I don't ever do anything inherently wrong or beyond the typical scope of a bit of gamer rage. This is for Bungie directly. If you are going to review and reset someone's name, give them a REAL message that explains this, not this severely misleading crossplay thing. Give them the opportunity to change their name, even, for free, within 24 hours of sending them an email about it, so they don't get stiffed into being generic Guardian names for all time. Much like Titan, Eater of Crayons, a lot of bungie names are either personal names we've used many times in the past, or a comedic expression like I did with Mara Sov's Sippy Cup. You could even reset their name to a previous name they had if they've used name changes. Just stop with this misleading message and do better with managing names. Give us the chance to appeal or change our names so we're not stuck looking like we did something much worse than we actually did.
