Saving Destiny 2

There are many faults that were the cause of the current state of Destiny 2, some justified, others not so much. However compounding issues will eventually kill the game, a death by a thousand cuts. That being said, I don't believe its too late to save it as we still have at least 2 more Episodes of content guaranteed, but it is going to take some work by Bungie. How much does it need? I am not a developer nor do I claim to have the solutions and I have no idea what resources they have available to them, just a regular player that engages with nearly all aspects of the game, so I only can offer opinions and feedback. There are few avenues to do this, between this forum and third party websites like Reddit or Twitter, where we can place this feedback. Whoever is managing the community needs to have a feel of the pulse for this reason, and for a long time it has felt like this has not occurred like it should, based on how updates don't address this. Recently, an example of this would be the -5 modifier in most activities. This issue was "addressed" by explaining how things work behind the scenes which was great and transparency is appreciated. However the decision was to continue as is (with removing specific surges) and "monitor" the results. Anyone with more than a handful of clears in said activities with random players can obviously tell that newer players are struggling to get by, while the forums rage with complaints regarding difficulty. We know there are some unreasonable complaints for the most part if it is a common complaint then it needs much further investigation. As such, here is my feedback for what would drive players to return, summarized in no particular order: 1 - Reduce Difficulty substantially on the bottom end. This effects new and casual players the worst as they do not understand mechanics and do not have appropriate gear or knowledge which frustrates them to leaving. 2 - Increase Difficulty by player choice. Give us the option to play at the Power we want, for example the Nightfall card system from years ago. Harder difficulty clears could give increased rewards, such as Adepts at the highest tier. 3 - Increase avenues of end user feedback, especially in game. There is a reporting system in game for players already, but none for bugs or general complaints. This would be much easier for the average player and hopefully easier for the team to evaluate the player's experience based on the activity. 4 - Return old vaulted content, specifically campaigns. It doesn't need to be the complete package as a summarized set of activities would suffice, but it would be excellent for new players to not be confused with the story and veteran players to replay. Let them relive the lows of Curse of Osiris and the highs of Forsaken, Timeline Reflections and Sunrising were a good start but far from what is needed. 5 - Remove timegating and as much tedium as possible. This is clearly causing early burnout for many players, particularly when an activity is farmable for RNG drops. If a 10 minute activity now takes 30 minutes this removes 2 potential rewards that could have happened and reduces player interest. 6 - Run changes in parallel with the old system in case of issues. This goes hand in hand with playtesting, Pathfinder for example should have run in tandem with Bounties for at least one season to prevent the sort of issues that occurred with implementation, and provides more player agency as alternatives while the bugs are worked out, sort of like the Iron Banner gamemodes. 7 - Don't fall into a routine. With seasons and events, it feels nearly the same every year as to the quest steps, and while it makes it easier to create it becomes predictable and easy to burn out on. Again, just one person's opinion and worth as much as you paid for it, but it is what I believe can help turn away from the direction we are going. I truly enjoy playing even with the terrible decisions and changes lately, and would hate to see the day when we can no longer log on.

  • * D2 simply cannot reach Fortnite/Call of duty numbers but it still makes a crazy amount of money to not support it lol. Sony is not going to throw away 600+ million dollars a year away... Frontier is new location introduced throughout the year instead of all at once in expansion.
