Can’t say I’m surprised. As a long-time Halo fan, I tried to enjoy it as a sci-fi show, disregarding the Halo look and name, still wasn’t great—I’m not very good at disliking TV/movies (The Emoji Movie wasn’t even that bad, right?) and had a good time watching it (I preferred S2–still didn’t like the arc with the ex-Spartan fella and Kwan). It certainly had its flaws.

1 ReplyI understand that adapting media is difficult, but good lord almighty I don’t know how you can screw it up that badly lol.

Show title didn't deserve to tarnish the great name of Halo or f--- up the Chief so darn terrible, the best part about MC was that he never had his helmet off onscreen and was shrouded in mystery. (Master Chief could secretly be the Doom guy).

That's unfortunate, season 1 wasnt that bad, I didn't watch a single scene with Kwan in it though that storyline was boring. I actually liked season 2 until they killed off Vannak and Keyes. Miranda and Halsey discovering the flood was awesome....until they killed off Halsey who I was HOPING was another clone but I guess we'll never know now And kwans story was actually pretty good this time Solid 7/10 overall

halo's storytelling has never been perfect but the nature of its flaws is almost entirely different under 343i. in the bungie games the general rule was to lead strong emotionally with the music and situation and then the lore is background noise that is mostly there for emotional texture if anything. with 343i they go for emotions almost entirely in the theater of interpersonal drama. so in halo 1 cortana looks at the bridge of the autumn before being unplugged knowing she'll probably never be back here and that's the emotion, but in halo 4 cortana needs to be verbally screaming at something or verbally complaining about something in order to go for an equivalent emotional return that doesn't really ever arrive or land. in the original run of halo halsey is mainly only ever alluded to in easter eggs or in those aloof halo 3 cortana flashes, but in 343i halo she has to be a directly and consistently present character for people to have harsh opinions on. the 'drama' is inorganic and overwrought basically every single time, and the tone is no longer carrying the weaker aspects of the storytelling. the halo tv show is horrible with this where ONI/parangosky, the insurrectionists/kwan, the rubble/soren's-wife, the covenant/makee, are all assigned these functionally identical melodrama dispensing dramatic stand-ins. just one of these would be too much of a pull but the fact that literally every single possible faction is given this treatment makes it basically unwatchable. it's like every single character in the show is the hologram from halo wars 2 who melodramatically hypes up atriox, who in turn does nothing. it's horrifically boring and confusing.

1 Replyfwiw Halo ended for me after Reach, but mostly after ODST. (Reach campaign was ok, hated the multiplayer) Yes I played 4, 5, and Infinite, but just to complete the campaigns. They did enough fraying of the universe that I have and will never watch a single episode the show that from what I've heard is essentially a broken EU version of Halo.

1 ReplyShow wasn't very good in the first place. It suffered from poor writing, and I don't think it was adapted by fans of the series like Fallout was.
