Bungie, it is safe to say you caught my attention with the new lore book that we received after the end of Echoes Act 1.
For those who want to read the lore book themselves after completing the story mission, I will put my thoughts on it under spoilers.
I was not at all expecting a lore entry about the Qugu. The only entry we've had about the race for the longest time was from the Books of Sorrow, where their extinction by the Hive was detailed. Then, over seven years later in Lightfall, we saw the viewpoint of a Qugu in the Inspiral lore books, which revealed them to be a race with a natural attunement to Darkness which was omitted from the Books of Sorrow.
Now, we have what looks like a new lore book dedicated to the Qugu, and the viewpoint of one Te'Qal. We see what looks like how the Qugu viewed the memories of their ancestors, which gives us a look into their life cycles and how their society developed over the course of generations.
All of it leading up to Te'Qal's first encounter with the Hive. We see how the Qugu's War-pearls fight in battle and how they're commanded, but they are forced into retreat, and towards an inevitable extinction we know has already passed.
I enjoyed this entry because it gives us a deeper look into the Qugu and their last days. It is nice to see one of the races from the Books of Sorrow lore book fleshed out, as it helps grow the history and the world of Destiny's setting.
One thing I am curious about, however, is why we are getting this entry about the Qugu, from Te'Qal's perspective, now. It is an Episode about the Vex and our first encounter with the Echoes, as well as the Conductor, who it is safe to say is Maya Sundaresh.
NOTE: Also, if I didn't like her before from Veil Containment, I despise her even more for what she put Saint through.
But the lore tab from the Spectrum Shell indicates that the Conductor has an ally. An ally with an "astounding variance in biology and culture". It is purely speculation, and I am likely wrong, but I would be blown away if it turns out the Conductor's ally is Te'Qal, and just as Maya Sundaresh seeks to "restore" the Golden Age, Te'Qal might also want to use the Echo to revive the Qugu.
It is far-out-there speculation, but that could be the "ancient secrets of lost civilization" that the Journey Ahead video said we would find on Nessus - the Qugu civilization.
This is just off-the-cuff speculation based on one chapter out of three, so don't take it as a solid prediction. Either way, I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the lore book plays out. It makes for great reading.
1 ReplyEdited by Vongola654: 6/27/2024 2:58:47 AMI found out about this elsewhere, and it is likely a bug that will be patched soon, but it turns out that if you complete the Act 1 questline on your second and third characters, you will unlock the remaining two entries of Dynasty. So, while I had the opportunity, I completed the quest line on my remaining two characters to unlock the remaining two entries. All I will say is it seems my speculation was incorrect. That said, we don't yet have the story and context of the remaining two Acts of Echoes, which I imagine the second and third lore entries were supposed to be released with. That is also why I am not posting my thoughts, even if it took me a while to compose them with some re-reading. It was a great read, and I recommend that you complete the current Act to unlock the remaining two lore entries, while you are still able, and read them for yourself.
