I have not really seen anyone talk about this or Bungie say anything about this, so if there is information out there that i've missed please let me know.
When I first finished the campaign and unlocked free roam me and my buddy were really excited about overthrow and free roam in the Pale Heart. When we were first doing overthrow I thought "i can't wait till the servers are stable and we can get 9 people running around doing this" it sounded like a lot of fun. We finished the campaign on day 1 so we assumed that the reason we never saw anyone was because not very many people had finished the campaign yet, or it had something to do with the server issues where people just weren't connecting.
Well, were now 3 weeks in and the Pale Heart just feels dead. Such a beautiful lush enviorment and atmosphere now just feels like desolate lonely wasteland. I really don't understand why it's not a public area. Maybe having 9 players in this enviorment is too taxing? okay i can undestand that. So why not just cap the area to 6 or 3 players but still be public?
It's become such a chore just to play free roam with other people.
Sure you can matchmake into overthrow but half the time I load in and either no one is there or ill spawn in one area like the blooming and one person will be in the landing and another person in the impasse.
So okay matchmaking sucks, i'll just go to find a fireteam finder. Well there is no option for overthrow in fireteam finder. There isn't even a Pale Heart option in the free roam section.
Let's go back to LFG and make a post then. well there's no option for overthrow there either. so i have to post in the anything section where my post gets buried in about 30 seconds.
Now for the biggest glaring issue with the Pale Heart. If your in an area and overthrow has any progress on it your fireteam is set to closed (even though in my settings it says public), you're not able to invite anyone, no one can join on you because "the activity you're trying to join is about to end!" or "the fireteam you're trying to join is at capacity" while you're alone on Level 1. So the only way you can get an LFG group is to make a post and wait in orbit until everyone joins, then fly into the area. oh someone got their class item or killed the boss they needed and left? back to orbit if you want to invite someone else.
A lot of people are unaware of this so you'll join their LFG post and be unable to join them beacuse they'll be in free roam and send you an invite thinking "there's no reason that people can't join me I'm alone in free roam."
Free Roam areas are supposed to be the most relaxing and easiest ways to be able to play with random players with no effort. The Pale Heart is the exact opposite of what a Free roam area should be. I really hope that it is made into a public area sometime in the future. It feels like such a waste of one of the coolest and most interesting enviorments Bungie has every made.
Agian if they've discussed this somewhere and i missed it please send a link in the comments.
Edit: Today they added an option for Overthrow to LFG so that will help part of the issue hopefully, would like to see it in Fireteam finder as well.

I agree with you 100%. 3 levels of OT solo, i’m bored and burned out already!

3 RepliesEdited by The Legend Himself: GONZO: 6/27/2024 3:03:29 PMNo thanks. I absolutely love having a free space without random blueberries sabotaging Heroic public events, shoulder charging chests into orbit so others can’t collect the loot, relentlessly and obnoxiously trying to steal your kills as you’re trying to do bounties, etc. You can match with other players if you want by selecting the appropriate node so it’s really the best of both worlds. You can play with others OR play alone. You clearly would like to play with others. I do not. We both can get what we want. It’s literally a win/win.

I love that the pale heart is solo or you can bring your fire team. You want randos all up in your business there are plenty of other planets you can go to get that action.
-
I'm actually enjoying the solo feature of the pale heart. No more bs from randoms. I wouldn't complain. At least solo players have someplace they can call their own now. 😂
-
2 RepliesThe pale heart sort of demonstrates that bungie has forgotten why the community likes the game. I mean as a solo space it's boring and grindy and while other destinations can be like that, at least while wondering around you could come across other players and help them out or learn something new from watching a random player in patrol.
-
1 ReplyI was also surprised it wasn't open world with other players, and only 3 at a time with matchmaking? Wonder if something is broken that makes it unstable with any more players? It's definitely feeling more and more lonely and boring in there. Thought I wouldn't mind it, but I kinda do. It's the kind of thing I like to just hop in and do things with other players around to help with public events, or you can jump into a lost sector if you want enemies to yourself. It kind of feels very un-destiny overall
-
I feel like the areas should be public but there should be an option or node that allows you to go in solo so everyone gets what they want. Win win
-
1 ReplySo it feels.. pale Sorry, had to do it. Being always solo makes the destination a lot worse than it actually is. I also wish the overthrow would only be active in one zone each day, like the Neumuna one. The activity is super boring after a few dozen clears, way to easy and if it wasn't for ergo sum, i'd not even look at it.

Yeah, they -blam!- up with the pale heart. I assumed we were in a private pale heart instance due to the storyline (we were the only ones there) and that the pale heart would become public once the witness was defeated and we opened the door for everyone else. It's really VERY disappointing that that has not happened. Not having other random blueberries running around in the pale heart makes it feel absolutely dead. Add to that the fact that I am just speed running picking up chests for hours, and I have really come to despise the place.

11 RepliesThe Pale Heart being a solo area is it's best feature. Why would I want blueberries screwing up my Overthrows as I'm farming chests for exotic classitems on Tier III?
-
Because it's just not
-
6 RepliesThe area was literally designed to be a solo instance. There's nothing to talk about lol
-
2 RepliesThe free roam in the Pale Heart sucks. Ive farmed chests a few times to see how many chests to open before a class item drops. Last time it took opening 71 chests. I’m thinking that this is a total waste of time and log off and fire up another game. It’s not fun running around by yourself and advancing the overthrow by yourself. You LFG & go into a Pale Heart area as a fireteam and now all the enemies have increased health so it actually becomes more of a slog. We should be able to over level free roam for crying out loud. Feel the power fantasy. But I don’t feel it there. I’m still going to the moon(sorrows harbour) to complete gunsmith and fail safe bounties because I feel somewhat more powerful there. Altar of Sorrow is actually more fun than any Pale Heart mechanic driven debacle.

By making it a solo instance the pale heart has much MUCH better loading times than any other destination Keep me away from the ps2 players on taco bell wifi plz
-
This is one of nine destinations who's different. Not to mention public locations like The Tower. I appreciate that!
-
Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 6/27/2024 5:37:31 PMBecause if they made it a public space, it would be too easy and too quick to get through all the activities. The point is to pad play times.
-
the netcode would -blam!- itself if it was made a public zone because it's built on top of a bloated corpse of an engine from 22 years ago
-
You know what's kind of weird? I loaded into the Pale heart the other day and there was a blueberry in the same session. I don't know what that was about. It wasn't a match made overthrow either.
-
I like the way it is, there's just the right amount of difficulty and no randoms to spoil the experience. I hope Bungie keeps doing this in future releases.
-
4 RepliesKeep it solo. Makes it one of the better areas in the game. There is an option to join a group in one of the zones each day, use that. Or like you said, make an LFG post.
-
I don’t mind the solo aspect of the activity. It just takes too long to do all the encounters and the level indicator doesn’t always seem active.
-
I'm literally the exact opposite. Pale Heart is the best patrol location now. I don't have to deal with randoms getting in the way of what I'm doing (bounties, heroic public events, etc). Hate me all you will, most of this community likes to get in the way on purpose.
-
1 ReplySomething else no one talks about...Pale Heart isn't new. Its recycled/reskinned old spaces.
-
I got it while the campaign and raid was live - as with the story of the game it was only four of us that entered the traveler. But after Mara showed up, the area should be a public space. It may be limitations of the game, TBH. This game / engine is like a sinking boat that’s being held together with duct tape.

2 RepliesPeople have been saying this, you could have used the search bar and found a discussion or two about it. Most people want it to stay private.
