I made a post about people not emoting/finishing champs in the guardian games nightfall this year , and someone asked me something that is a core component of why new players leave this game
"Where does it say to do that for a higher score ?"
It doesn't, you are expected to watch a YouTubers Guide for that information
Just like this season, I have the title for every season , been playing every era of Destiny since 2014 launch , but I have no clue what a planetary piston looks like , all the confluxes of light look the same to me ,so here is me running to each one hoping there is an interaction prompt before the blueberries go through the boss portal , it's bs game design
Bungie doesn't tell you have to kill all champions in nightfall to get the best rewards, have to wait for an angry message from a blueberry to find that out
That's why there is toxicity, Bungie doesn't explain the rules and structure of there game , and new players go in to team dependent activities blind
Just like what rolls can this gun get ?, won't find out in the game, or the games app, have to go to a 3rd party website

Edited by jhermannITJ: 6/29/2024 6:13:51 AMThe game needs a codex or compendium in-game. This is an estimate, but about 80% or the info I have are independent 3rd party collaborations. Resources a lot of people are unaware of. The lore is quite fragmented... there's 2 main sites, Ishtar... which is absolutely terrible, and Destinypedia... that has issues in the past with people deleting information and links... adding analysis and interpretations... which is wrong. We have resources that may bias metas because they partner with content creators for things like weapon rolls. I don't like that. Often a playerbase manipulated by inaccurate and sloppy testing using UI decals, shooting against a wall in private lobby. Or DPS testing against Templar, again using UI decals. This has always been true. There's this "rose bush" Youtube Meta, and then there is the truth. And that analysis, takes time... however, taking your time isn't good for the Youtube algorithm. Often times, right now is a great example... a lot of the charts and docs are still being tested for & updated. We don't know what the metas are, because there's so much stuff... so many changes, often bugs, that it can take months. Now I'm not saying that Bungie should do all the works for us. But if we had a regularly updated compendium, there would be significantly less bad information... I believe there would be a much greater diversity to the meta... having more of that information surfaced to the player in-game or in a dedicated portal on Bungie.net and the App. It would be great to have a loadout builder in-game... just buy D2armorpicker, and integrate those systems. It would change the game for a lot of players, new and old, imo. Teach people to fish. Don't sponsor a guide video that will reach maybe 0.1% of the Player Base. There's a sponsored guide video for Enigma Protocol... I bet you most people have no idea it exists... it's not a great video either. They need a dedicated team for this stuff.

This is definitely annoying, but even more than that, I hate that you have to do homework on 3rd party sites just to understand how the game works. Every description of every exotic, aspect and fragment, weapon perk, and armour mod is vague AF, and doesn't tell you anything useful or important about how the thing actually works. It's the biggest barrier to entry for buildcrafting, especially for new players. At a BARE MINIMUM, Bungie needs to feature things like the Destiny Data Compendium, DIM, Light.gg, D2Foundry, and other critical 3rd party sites in the loading screen tips, so that new players can at least have knowledge of their existence.

Piston has a star at its base. How score is calculated? I have no idea lol.

8 RepliesI made a fresh account recently and tried new player experience the game didn't even show Champions, explain the 3 types and show me how to stun them I was curious after watching the World of Warcraft raiders (echo ) group all make destiny accounts and play last wish, watched one dude in lost sector and he didn't understand why his Hand Canon with unstoppable champ mod activated would not stun the champion.....he was shooting an overload champ..... he still was a bit confused until his chat helped. So i logged into old PSN account, started new destiny experience and not a word of champions, no tutorial, no training area, no guided mission to stun each champ and different ways. Nothing This game is terrible for new players, please Sony take over, fire the management at Bungie and rebuild this the right way.

3 RepliesAs the great deej once said in a pre alpha promo in 2013 'your best friend in destiny will be the internet'

Actually of of those things ARE explained in game and by bungie. When GM's first came out bungie explained that you get more rewards if you kill all champions . You can see the emote and finish medal in the medals part of triumphs. Failsafe mentioned the planetary piston and it is highlighted on your hud if within 30 meters ...or more if you ADS.

5 RepliesThey don't expect you to watch a youtube guide. They expect you to go out and try things without step-by-step visual instructions on how to do every little thing lol. It's clearly a bridge too far though.

It sounds like you are depending on third parties - some of us enjoy an experience that isn’t spoon-fed to them.

7 RepliesI mean, bungie doesn't need to hold people's hands throughout everything. You had to defeat all champions in any mode to get the highest score ever since they introduced champions. The seasonal planetary piston is marked on your screen when you get close enough to it. It's been the design of the game for a long time that you have to think a little to figure out stuff. Vast majority of the game can be figured out very easily. Raids are usually the only thing that take a little to figure out how to do. I do agree it is very annoying to do any activity and have people just ignoring the stuff to get the best rewards. However, there is a simple workaround for that, and that's to just play in a group with people who know what they are doing.
