Hello all, this is a feedback post concerning the State of Titans in Destiny 2’s sandbox. It’s not going to contain a lot of buff ideas/requests besides to what’s putting them in a position of not being desirable.
For those who weren’t aware, Salvation’s Edge on the Contest/Day 1 modifier was extremely difficult. Some of the difficulty coming from the 5th encounter of the Raid. Teams gathered the mechanics then struggled with damage. As the teams solved 5th encounter most people would notice most teams dropping their Titan teammates for a Hunter or Warlock. This post is to sorta answer why that is, and what could be done to help push them back into a position that doesn’t feel so far behind.
For an example of how little teams wanted/needed Titans. The first 50 clears had less than 1% of players on Titan, which the other 99% of players were switching/playing Hunter and/or Warlock.
This isn’t to say Titans can’t be damage competitive, but in an objective number based scenario they will almost consistently always fall significantly behind the others.
Now, why is that, and what could be done to fix it?
A lot of the issues come from Titans ability to have some form of Damage Rotation. For those who don’t know what that is, it’s not just “Press super and shoot” that can be a PART of a rotation, but not a whole one. To give you an example I’ll show you what Hunters are currently doing to achieve big numbers in the new Raid.
Pop Caydes Retribution -> Pop Celestial -> Shoot Celestial -> Shoot Still Hunt -> 6 Sniper shots -> Pop Caydes Retribution -> Repeat till end of dps or no ammo.
Warlocks do brandish similar rotations with their own class and exotics. This example is just the newest most relevant one.
Titans lack this entirely. Their only ranged super is currently a bit of a catastrophe and a W. Explained below, and possible fixes.
A.) Twilight Arsenal either can’t do precision damage, or has horrid precision damage.
Ab.) To resolve this, give Twilight Arsenal more precision damage, or the ability to hit in the first place.
B.) Twilight Arsenal takes too long to cast, or can’t be cast individually.
Bb.) To fix this issue, rework the interaction of Axe throws to work more similarly to Tether: Quiver. Where you can throw an axe, fire your weapons while the super bar drains, then throw another when you’re ready or only throw 1 as the super meter depletes.
Combine that with the Star Eaters Scales/Eternal Warrior Exotic Class item combo and in relative time you’ve made Titans competent in ranged, precision based damage scenarios. I’m sure comments or others will have different or ideas, which are 100% welcome.

I see tons of non-titans here basically saying "Git Good" or that we're whining. That would be understandable if Titans weren't being gatekept in LFG besides with "learning"/ first time groups. I'm a pure titan main, know all the encounters' mechanics, etc. but I haven't gotten a clear because the better groups request only hunters and the new players take countless attempts to even reach the second damage phase. I'd also like to not be forced to spend hours each week teaching Joe the plumber who plays when his wife lets him and his whining baby in the background how to dissect in 4th encounter, just to have to teach the Witness encounter to 5 clueless souls for another 3 hours and not even get close to killing.

Edited by Tall: 6/12/2024 2:04:57 PMLegend onslaught was a reality check for titan mains. Even as busted as strand titan is, they got power checked hard in that mode. I almost exclusively played legend on my warlock and hunter because it was just downright easy. Fast forward to the Edge of Salvation raid race and the stats come out that over 60% of those that completed it were hunters and less than 10% were titans. People specifically switched off titan to hunter during that raid race.

11 RepliesThis is a joke post right? Titans have been, currently are, and will always be the most OP class. Hunters get screwed season after season while titans get buffs even where they aren’t needed
-
Not that many true Titan mains out there.
-
Bungie reads this post then decides to nerf synthocepts again just for fun cause why not!?

Edited by Beanburrito: 6/11/2024 11:43:32 PMJust wait until you notice that solo raid bosses are almost all done on titan(almost like they can literally punch caretaker to death SOLO. As soon as a boss is not punchable yall whine.
-
1 ReplyUh, Twilight Arsenal doesn't do precision damage. The yellow numbers are from it applying Weakening. Although, they could improve it by giving it escalating damage when hitting the same target with each axe throw.

I noticed it in Lfg requests just before the final shape and now raid and other activities requests. No one wants to play titans any more, in the respect of it being quite low in the over all playerbase. Even if other mains will not admit, titans are the nerfed Kings. They have been getting hit hard for a long time now at least from the beyond light days. It has now come to a point that everything titans have is mid at best or tied behind a exotic just to be comparable to other classes, fallen star, gyro gauntlets to say a few, that without the exotics the supers would be garbage but this if you want dps as a titan you must wear a exotic. The solar subclass on a hunter has become the most powerful in the game BY FAR which throws the ballance to other classes by at least 200k on a super. The new grenade for Hunters is the most powerful grenade I've seen in the game. Exotic armor for the supers are suposed to make the super powerful not make it average. If you took away pyro gauntlets and fallen star titans would have have the weakest supers in the game

Edited by Magiscene: 6/11/2024 12:19:22 PMThe problem with titan is bungie doesn’t want to give them any range and their support options are niche or out classed (rip bubble). Titan has a lot of builds good for add clearing like strand and void for example excel at it, but the hammer throw dmg is terrible even with roaring flames x3 and missile while strong still requires you to reposition after casting and in the witness u just fall to your death. Titan used to have a phenomenal range dmg build with heart of inmost light and storm nades but that killed long ago. They want titan to be the punch everything class, but the problem with that is titan will only be good for add clearing and dmging certain bosses in endgame.

I’m glad people are noticing this finally
-
5 RepliesWeh wah cry more “cant punch things game sucks” There are already near unkillable titan builds out for prismatic maybe pull your head out your -blam!- and try some stuff out
-
Titans were great the whole raid, but the final encounter is 100% ranged crit dps, which is what titans are by far weakest at. Combine that with still hunt celestial being crazy for crit dps and being brain dead enough to be able to dps with brain power left over to dodge the witness, and people swap for the last encounter.
-
1 ReplyTitans are great the entire raid, perfect for 2nd encounter, but everyone losing their ish because witness is ranged and makes you move.
-
I'd expect no fewer words from a Titan main. No, I dodn't read. Unnecessary. Just make - do. This is week one in a new Raid that took an accomplished team 19 hours to complete in contest mode...... ......not your cheap shot buff plea opportunity. Every class has upside / downside, etc. Be in support or otherwise alter your approach for a change.....you might learn something about team play. gg's

4 RepliesEdited by Murphy: 6/11/2024 12:05:20 AMNot being mean but who cares? That raid was NEVER meant for any players to pull day 1 clears. Was only for streamers...their personal raid. Now streamers MUST sell this new model like their life's depend on it. Can tell by group finder not being updated...yeah maybe it would have been hell but who knows a team could have won which would have hijacked the entire plan. Jsut waiting on the next streamer crybaby rant that some team used X and made it too easy for them....divinity, well, all of it destroyed when they cried.

3 RepliesWelcome to how Warlocks felt all of D1 and how Hunters felt during Forsaken through TFS. You'll be fine
-
9 RepliesTitans have plenty to contribute to the raid. Banner Shield. T Crash (situational). Pyrogale (situational). Hammers (add clearance). Etc. Trouble is this raid isn't up close an personal like so many. There's a spot for Titans it's just not going to be very......all around.
-
Ngl, when we cleared yesterday, our Titans keeping up with our Hunters with Twilight Arsenal. It is hard to hit on the Witness but possible.
-
We actually used a lot of Titans in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th encounter. Strand Titan has the highest survivability and close range damage. The first boss was a consistent 3 phase with just swords and tractor. Because of that we just put everything else into survivability resulting in 5 Titans and a Well. 3rd was just add clear so we used 3 Strand Titans at the totems. And 3 hunters to nuke Tormentors and subjugators. 4th was just add clear so we actually used 6 Strand Titans. The difference with Witness was that survivability was no issue. The fight actually has very little ads. By using 5 golden Guns and a Warlock with div every player had a free heavy slot for using an LMG. Titans had no option to do real damage with just their special.

1 ReplyIt’s because Bungie has made multiple supers that are very successful at close to mid ranges, but the Encounter supported long ranges. This is usually not a problem as a Titan has Thundercrash, and can slam into the target before running right back to where the Damage is taking place, but in this situation, there was no platform for the Titan to land on, and thus, have the ability to run back. They don’t have access to grapple, and thus, no in air mobility. It limits them to purely Weapons. This is made even more apparent by the one lackluster ranged super that Titans have, being Hammers. While they are great at chunking majors and nuking champions, and are especially good for survivability when a well or bubble is just not doing it, Hammers are limited by the fact that there damage overtime sucks, and the Super is a roaming, meaning it’s impossible to use you weapons during it. Twighlight Arsenal is the best Ranged super titans currently have, but it’s limited by its own buggy issues, and the fact that part of the appeal is to use the relics, so Bungie has reduced your damage for the fact that you can use the Relics post super.

Hum while its true that people switched to titan for the final boss. There was a lot of titans for the rest of the raid. Their role isnt to dps a boss that is standing far away (even yough ive seen some nasty titan dps with the euphony weapon the other day) But to mow through every ennemies while being nearly invincible. A thing the high dps hunters cant do.
-
26 Repliesand before that it was the other way around, and no one was embarrassed by it? As soon as your class is not OP, you come and cry here...
-
Titans were good (if not the best) on every encounter except final. We had four people on Strand Titan for 80% of the raid. It's totally possible to do respectable damage on Titan at the Witness using just weapons.

Edited by Redacted7396: 6/11/2024 5:28:10 AMI agree with you but we already know still hunt is gonna be nerfed lol, way too easy an fast to get such a high damage shot
-
3 RepliesEdited by gloglue: 6/10/2024 11:36:27 PMIf you noticed the beginning of the runs a lot were on titan for the easy survival. Then later on switched to hunter or warlock for damage at witness. Yeah using the new sniper with celestial is the best strategy so what so was hammer titan with everything in the game along with strand titan. What is the problem?
-
8 RepliesWarlocks add clear Hunters dps Titans just die
