This expansion has the worst gameplay mechanics I've ever experienced, I genuinely do not want to even bother to try and get my money's worth at this point.
Do you like small rooms with 3+ bosses and infinitely spawning ads that appear on top of you? You're in luck, this exists in 90% of the missions. Some missions have this happen 3 times.
I especially like having a Hydra splash damage me no matter where I am, while having Strand Rhulk suspend me and Stasis Rhulk one shot me with icicles. FUN.
Or how about go into small room -> Kill boss -> open door to another room for same encounter -> take DOTs -> have 2 bosses spawn in that can one tap you -> have ads teleport on top of you w/no radar. I'M HAVING FUN.
Do you like time gated damage phases? Great! You get them in EVERY SINGLE ACTIVITY. Every boss. Every mission. Even on patrol. FUN.
7 mechanics in one encounter? Sure, I like running from point A to B to C to D whilst having Wyverns jump on my face constantly.
Immune enemies unless you use the new subclass? You don't put all the subclass Supers or aspects in Prismatic, but you make us use it.. somethingsomething play how you want.
The gameplay is so tedious, it's not enjoyable.. and that was once the main appeal of this game.

1 ReplyEdited by Sohelanthropus: 6/11/2024 5:49:19 AMCompletely agree on the health gate thing, it's annoying and has gotten old, very quickly There's a difference between timed damage phases and health gating, I will always prefer the former as it is always more fun and rewarding Health gates can work and can be fun, but man Bungie has done it so much on almost all their activities for the past 6 damn years

7 RepliesEdited by Andy: 6/10/2024 5:50:32 PMIts does feel like the development team actually went to the effort of listing the 10 things most players hate the most in the game and went lets quadruple down on these. 5-10 minute jump puzzle transitions between raid encounters done. Extremely complicated mechanics that frequently break due to bugs done. Multiple damage gates on everything done. Immune enemies done. etc.

Tedious is definitely a word I find myself using more n more often in this game.

Edited by TeKnoVKNG23: 6/11/2024 8:46:54 PMThis was my main critique of the campaign, it was very poorly/lazily designed. Literally just walk through an area listening to dialogue, fight a few trash mobs, more travel/traversal/jumping, wind up in a cave/enclosed claustrophobic building where everything spawns on top of you and the adds and boss have a ton of splash damage and stasis/strand crowd control abilities. If it wasn't for the cutscenes and narrative I think most people would not be praising the campaign as much as they are. Only thing I really enjoyed in it was looking for chests because it took you off the way too linear path, and the final mission vs. the Witness.

Too many “gotcha” mechanics that go against the grain of how the game plays. Bad enough you have so many yellow bars, do they have to spawn behind you as well? Little things like destructible floors with hive swords that cause a fall. Snipers in places you can’t see - hitting with 100% accuracy with each shot. Taken shields across multiple taken. I don’t mind a challenge but most of the time I die in this game I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing and have no idea what’s even killing me. This is how Bungie makes content “challenging” - giving you tools to use and then subverting their usefulness with “gotcha” mechanics…making those very fun tools irrelevant… I can wield multiple supers with space magic but I am no match for a destructible floor and a taken sniper lol

2 RepliesThis is why I barely play D2 anymore and skipped the Final Shape. If all you feel after doing a mission is relief it's over then there is something seriously wrong.

1 ReplyEdited by Kouz_MC: 6/11/2024 12:30:15 PMI saw this expansion being a disaster coming miles away. The double subclass BS was the latest confirmation. The raid race was so boring I couldn’t waste more than 10min of my time watching it. I’m glad streamers continue to be the epitome of hypocrisy in the name of views, at this point they overtook IG philosophers selling their body for a gucci bag. Needless to say, Destiny fans are like crypto fanboys, who keep trying to justify their decisions and praise what they understand poop about when everything falls while stocks continue to fly since the last halving. Just move on man, I’m sorry for the money you wasted, I’m personally more sorry for all the time I wasted on this game and company. But all good things come to an end, and Destiny’s came a long time ago, we were just nostalgic idiots who kept wishing to have fun in a world where designers try to make money out of boredom.

Edited by Dooodley: 6/12/2024 5:23:29 PMI've wanted to ask the community the same thing but was scared of coming off too negative - despite that I'm completely open to the possibility that the game simply isnt for me. I just just feel like there are way too many puzzles, parkour moments and repetitive sequences for it to be as fun and immersive as it could have been. I want to play, not stand around and figure out what I'm supposed to do alternatively run around and just spam weapons like an idiot while trying to figure it out. Or what I usually do; hide and google it. I mean, the full Khovostov YT walkthrough alone is 40 minutes. You're basically doing the same string of missions six times followed by looking for stuff - stuff no sane person would have found on their own. It's way over the top. Things can be hard but they shouldnt be hard because you're looking for a needle in a haystack.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 the way you worded this is hilarious lmao but facts I beat the campaign on legendary, some parts of it took me forever because of random one shots, like iconoclasm for instance, the bosses had way too much damage resistance, I had to dodge the witness attacks, keep that annoying buff up, grab the shield, risk getting one shot to shoot that shield bursting orb at them, I clearly did it but it was high level annoying and I get it they wanted a tough final mission for the campaign but my god chill with making us do all that crap at once

I've never been an incredible player anyway, and I tend to take long breaks, sometimes a year, in D2. I haven't been paying attention to the storyline. I did not know Crow killed Cayde. I do not care about Crow. I do not know why Crow is being treated as if he's one of the Vanguard leaders. I mainly remember the character as the sarcastic and passive-aggressive dude next to his sister when we first met in D1. I digress. Anyway, along with this, I am not always up to speed on the mechanics. Like, do I put the light motes in the dark well, or in the light well? How come every knight is dropping dark motes but I need half of them to be light? And then in fights, I learn the hard way when various types of adds or bosses will spawn or how you remove their shield. I play Legendary campaign missions as a point of pride, I have been doing that since Halo CE. But it takes me a while (sometimes dozens of deaths). By the time I am done, I could redo it relatively easily. Anyway, thought I would just post this in case anybody with a similar profile to me is frustrated with the campaign. I could give some tips about stuff I have already done and I'd be happy to, and I'm sure others could give better tips, or you could check YouTube videos. As an example, I'm in Dissent and the last boss fight I finished was the one with a Tormenter after you kill three witches (acolytes?). It seemed impossible for a while, but I realized if you go to the room on the right that the witch was in that you cleared earlier, and jump on the column, you can then spam him with (in my case) Witherhoard or whatever your preferred weapon is. You still have to be careful about his ranged attack and about the adds, and you might have to relocate sometimes when it gets hairy, but it mostly works. In Requiem when you are fighting the brig, there is a small gorge up the hill behind the house that you can take cover in. It's not the best place for shooting enemies, but you can pop in and out as needed. Any enemies that do approach you have to come from one direction. The brig can still do its AOE attacks on you, so stay alert for those. Etc, I'm at a point where, my gun skills are what they are, they aren't likely to change much, but my knowledge of the map and the encounter can change, so I have to look for all of the advantages I can. If this sounds like you, take heart. I am on the next to last mission and haven't found anything I can't get through yet, however painful it may be.

9 Repliesprismatic is pretty meh

1 Replyyea no, the last boss of the story mode can -blam!- -blam!-, theres too uch bullshit in the room, AOE damage clipping you through walls, you get hit with any pixel of stasis you get the debuf at x50 before you can react, and the strand keeps pulling you non stop and doesnt let you open the shield its painful, if people like pain, run your balls through a cheese grater

1 ReplyI am not a fan with the number of 'time-gated' bosses as there are far too many, but otherwise I am enjoying the fights. Well, other than that Moth-infested Cavern cyst. I'll never do that again.

1 ReplyI was just telling a friend this exact thing. There’s nothing more annoying than being slowed or suspended. I practically break my joystick bc I’m pressing the button so hard trying to get away from being frozen. It’s easily my least favorite thing in any game. Like when games take away the ability to sprint, etc. it reminds me of the old days when NES would overheat and force slow motion.

I can maybe understand health gating in campaign. But even some of the patrol space bosses have gating. Like bro let me nuke!

3 RepliesEdited by Mad EYE Murffy: 6/11/2024 7:46:58 PMI’m on legendary maelstrom solo, and with being shot at by some nob halfway across the map in a different section whilst dealing with the little numpties and a subjugator spamming crack crystals everywhere is beyond infuriating. I get it’s supposed to be a challenge but this just isn’t fun. At the very least stop the idiot in another section from constantly throwing arc aoe every few seconds. Edit: just finished it, it’s easy, don’t know what all the fuss is about……🤣 joking, good luck, it is doable, I think it’s more luck than skill though.

10 RepliesEdited by Jedi Knight: 6/11/2024 7:24:18 PMuse telesto to get the prismatic super back in like one shot. yes, its extremely annoying you have to play their way. and the close quarter fights all the time are dumb. its definitely -blam!- hole game design. I'm on a mission right now where a taken ogre is shielded, and to unshield him you have to kill two prism shields guys who are hiding behind a blight bubble, and do that two times.

3 RepliesLOL queue all the "its fine" " its a you problem" or the "I soloed the entire campaign backwards while on my head playing with my feet". Worst group to ever voice an opinion too as they see ZERO wrong with any bungie does...let em delete the game and guarantee the apologists would still defend them.

1 ReplyWhat I find to be the worst is that for years everyone has universally praised the gunplay of destiny 1 and 2. I am now basically punished for shooting a gun vs just doing ability spam.

Immune gates are bad news

2 RepliesI did normal just to get it over and done with , it was a great cut scene story and was fun .

Edited by Sir Mittens: 6/11/2024 10:02:31 PMfirst off... the prismatic flares apply to you on any subclass, if you want to run solar but cant break the shields stand in the pools that spawn, and boom it will fill up a transcendence bar for you without swapping you to prismatic. Second, legend is entirely optional, not required... ill admit I did have my issues on the final mission with that strand SOB corner peaking my -blam!-, but it also required me to play smart, not just go in guns blazing, especially for this campaign up until a certain point much like there past DLCs they give you enough of the new stuff to where you have an insanely easier time using it as opposed to the old stuff... like prismatic for instances about halfway through the campaign i forget which mission but you unlock a fragment that upon getting x kill(i forget specifically what type) it triggers health regen... and id rather take interesting boss encounters as opposed to bland go here clear room, go here clear room, like 90% of D1 mission and early d2 missions. from the sound of it it seems like your in the divide which is 4th or 5th mission I believe meaning you should have that fragment, idk what your main is but if you doing Legend i recommend either Banner of war or bubble titan, Inviso Hunter, or devour, well, song of flame(once unlocked) warlock. for weapons im not sure what you have but rockets and linears seem to be the best option for dps avoid close to mid range like swords and GLs, and the new pale heart sidearm is a godsend, it oneshots all but the subjagators and tormentors

I'm usually a bungie hater but honestly really enjoying this expansion, that being said, I get where you're coming from. The mechanics are cool but you have to deal with them way too often. It becomes very tedious by the end of the campaign. I like the mechanics, but having them repeat so often is a little much.

The legendary campaign frustrated me many times but I enjoyed overcoming the challenges. I did drop down to normal for the final fight
(thinking there was much more involved than just two bosses)
and that was so easy I was bored. So im fine with it, though I do recognize that it's not for everyone.
