The -5 raids with surges need to go away or people will stop doing raids

I do not care about the people who tie their self esteem to their video game skill level. Those people can go kick rocks and touch some grass. I've done 1550 of these things and I was really enjoying doing them with all kinds of people. This was a terrible change and it's going to result in people not doing raids nearly as often and I vastly prefer having plenty of people to play with than looking down from my crystal tower on people. This has to change. It's extremely bad for the game.

  • I’m clearing the new raid a grand total of once. Then I may just drop Destiny forever. Bungie never learns. Ever. Worst possible company to make such a great game. Dumbest people making decisions there consistently. They change leaders so often and they continue to make the same exact stupid decisions over and over. What a joke of a company.

    • Too much mechanic heavy pageantry. I've always felt revive tokens don't belong in base difficulty.

if the -5 power stops you from helping people that's really sad on your part if people are not ready to raid then they shouldn't raid its endgame content they need to have the basic knowledge of end game stuff(what to bring weapons/armor, damage rotations etc...) to do things teach people help them, if you are crying and throwing your hands up because you can't drag them by their ankles that's going to ruin it for Evey one and no one gets better players need to get better to do end game content it's that simple and you'll still find a wide variety of people trying to get better to do raids and dungeons is the whole purpose of the game

        • I used to enjoy doing raid Sherpas, but won’t be doing any with the -5 TBH, takes the fun out of it. The difficulty is a bit overtuned.

          • Most raids aren’t even interesting. People grind them for loot and mostly consign themselves to hours of misery for a lousy drop, low drop rates courtesy of fake company to get you to log hours. If the point of the raid, including the challenge, isn’t fun, stop caring. I know a lot of people play the game for the raids, but yeah, then enjoy them. The loot is a bonus.

          • It wouldn't be so bad if it was a separate selectable difficulty mode, and gave rewards like artifice armor, emblem's, shader's, heck, even put the crafting patterns behind that wall as extra incentive. But to make the changes the norm IMO isn't the best play. There should definitely be a "normal" mode where people can learn the encounters and get comfortable with the raid before ramping up the difficulty for better rewards. There was always a gap in difficulty between the old "normal" and master, and this would have fit in perfectly to bridge them.

Bungie "we are allowing some raid weapons be obtainable outside of the raid to entice more players to raid" Bungie "we are adding some raid mechanics to the campaign so more players can get accustomed to them" Bungie "Syke, we are nerfing all of you in the raid so its a tedious chore so that more raid sweats and streamers do t get angry its too easy and that theres too many blueberries raiding"

I made a post about this and then got 💩 on by the usual suspects that always defend Bungie’s moronic decisions. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/263990493/0/0 I also got into an argument with another Bungie defender on a different topic about this when he brought it up trying to prove me wrong without evidence. It’s a moronic take on Bungie’s behalf which they never communicated in any way whatsoever before the game dropped. I said in a previous post I will never Sherpa anyone ever again but maybe Jonty28 will. If you look below even that patient and amazing Sherpa will no longer be doing Sherpa raids. If that doesn’t make those saying “this is fine” realise it’s a bad decision then you’re as moronic as Bungie.

                • Bungie doesn't care. They'd rather make the best content only accessible to their top tier players. Heaven forbid Normal Raid/Dungeons being easy. I think RoN was the pinnacle. So accessible to the casual player. It was awesome. Not liking the direction this is going with difficulty. Let players who want challenge play harder modes.

                • Yeah, it's kind of cringe to see the devs have a chip on their shoulder about certain people calling Raids/Dungeons easy Like, this change doesn't make it harder for core/hardcore Raiders, it makes that group colder towards the newbies, 9 - 5 dads, and other less skilled or experienced groups

                  • I personally would not have an issue, but a lot of people will not want to even attempt the raids if they are going to be forced underpower, and that isn't even the big problem. The old activities are at base power-level, which means they were the bare minimum difficulty. Going from that to suddenly underpowered is an enormous jump, and most players that don't like legendary campaign difficulty will not like enemies taking twice the amount of hits to kill while dealing twice the amount of damage to the player. These normal activities don't need to be so hard (in comparison to what they were). Bungie once complained about us demanding a "hard mode" to raids like in D1, saying it's "too hard" to make extra mechanics, yet look at SE. There are plenty of mechanics that could be taken out in favor of a normal mode and just make what it currently is into hard mode. I want people to have fun in the game, and forcing people to put effort into everything they do is not fun. It's exhausting and tedious. Bungie needs to go back to the old Normal and Heroic modes. It worked for D1, and it had good difficulty that didn't feel unfair, but D2 just feels designed to be unfun because we're "too powerful" so enemies get bullsh!t gimmicks to kill us (bad AI mostly) on top of forcing us underpowered. It's one thing if the difficulty we choose is harder, but forcing us underpowered at all times removes the entire purpose of the power level grind. There is no reason to go above 1980 power. The difficulty design of D1 is miles ahead of this.

just look at the MICROCOSM quest . it's raid mechanics . I played this game over 7k hours and it's becoming really easy to not play it anymore. due to bungies dreaming up ways to make it no fun. Also look at cross team all back of the buss. notice he isn't talking about there struggle with the raid either ,after they all wanted level 11 mechanics and the development team at bungie says you asked for it,you got it.

                    • Raids were already inaccessible because of time constraints, I'm inexperienced at basically all of them except 2. If it was already difficult to do them before, now I'm definitely not doing them. You know, I keep giving destiny chances and Bungie keeps blowing it. Taking away reasons for the game to be worth my money. I'm just paying them to make the game accessible for OTHER hardcore players and not for me.

I still don’t understand why they can’t just make a separate difficulty setting for things like this. Why do they need to change the formula for a raid? Can’t they just release it as is and push all the modifiers to Master, or even some kind of medium-hard in-between version? There’s no matchmaking for raids outside of fireteam finder, and most of us make our own raids teams (or join someone else’s) anyways. So unless they have different server sets for every specific difficulty, I don’t see what’s stopping them from making as many difficulty settings as they want that we can choose from.

The thought process for raids in D2 has always been garbage. And Bungie alone is to blame for it. The revive token system in normal is complete trash. Started with Leviathan when they made that castellum with all the transversal and the flags just to get to each encounter. It was such a slog. I used to teach completely new raiders the normal versions of the raids in D1. It was actually manageable. And the hard versions were attainable for me. Now the hard are well out of my reach. And even the normal are intimidating.

                      • The thing with the -5 is that it’s too easy for people who want an extra challenge but is a bit difficult for newer raiders.

I'm worried about this as well. This is the first time in a long time I've not been able to clear the raid before reset and I'd say I'm somewhere above average (couple day ones, all raid titles, etc.). Simply reverting the -5 power delta would make a world of difference. I know for a fact I can eventually master this raid and will flawless it (even if it takes a long while). That's not the issue. The problem is when you make a raid take 2-3 hours to pull a COMPETENT new person through (assuming EVERYONE ELSE knows what to do) because of the extremely punishing mechanics on top of chunky ads, it is going to turn away a LOT of raiders. Forget pulling my friends who are casuals through 4th encounter. That's not going to happen. After speaking with a few members of my clan / perusing some reddit comments and even hearing people on LFG talk about it mid-raid, the sentiment is that casual raiders will NOT be playing this more than once. They will go for a clear, then they will maybe do the boss to get red borders if they are after one of the weapons.

                        • Most people are long gone, and most remaining players don’t even play the raid. Raids are to destiny what poop is to a -blam!-.

                          • This feels like the wrong decision to make after introducing more raid like mechanics in the campaign. I have always felt raids were the best part of Destiny. Making them accessible to more people is a good thing and this does the opposite.

                          • Struggling to complete the raid . It’s unnecessarily difficult. Once I do I’m never doing it again . Not a pleasant experience listening to teammates yell and cast blame on others for 7 plus hours . Pass . Big L bungie !

I've been raiding in MMOs since 2005. Here's my raid report, but I'm Platinum 1 for full clears and Platinum 4 for speed clears. I've also been a raid leader for my Destiny clan and World of Warcraft guild. Salvation's Edge is unnecessarily difficult and it's taking the fun out of raiding for me. The amount of mechanics, the narrow timings on some of the mechanics, the level of coordination required, and the -5 power restriction and surges make this raid feel unmanageable for my raid team. I also like having plenty of people to play with, and playing with people of different skill levels. I like teaching people new raids. I like helping people who are new to Destiny, or new to raiding, so they can have fun and be successful. I really don't want to have to tell my friends, "Sorry, you can't come to raid, you're not good enough." But to have a chance at clearing this raid I feel like I'm restricted to only playing with my "sweaty" friends. The raid would feel more doable for the majority of the community if we could remove the -5 power cap and allow people to be 20 power over, which was the case for previous tiers of content. I really hope Bungie reconsiders this change for dungeons and raids.

                            • I'm a casual player who prefers to do solo content, I'd like to hone my solo skills in strikes without having to select legendary to avoid matchmaking (I've accepted that's the way it is), so I only entered strikes when xur was around (before the final shape). I have been improving to the point of soloing a dungeon and jumped into a few raids, but with these changes I don't think I'll be raiding anymore... even dungeons... I don't know. What a stupid change to make when they could have just added contest mode. Bungie wants more ppl to play yet they make it harder for new and casual gamers.

I have only finished the first encounter of the raid but I ran warlords ruins last night and it wasn't any harder than it has been in the past. You all are acting like -5 to your power is gonna be insanely difficult but just built into and try it before just complaining on the forum's.
