I admit that I have a ‘skill issue’.
I’m 58, I’ve had two strokes, I have constant chronic pain and stiffness and I have ADHD. My coordination and reflexes are shot and when my mind wants me to press X on my pad, my fingers decide to press square…
So then I get told to ‘play something easier’…
Which kinda misses the point.
I enjoy gaming. I enjoy Destiny. Yeah, I do find long drawn out processes exhausting. The campaign seems interminable because, you guessed it, ‘skill issue’… I’m doing dumb stuff because mind and body aren’t in sync. And yes, of course it’s going to be more enjoyable if you’re better than me (not hard, I should add) and you know exactly what you’re doing without forgetting where X is on your pad. Oh it’s there, is it?
But there seems to be a genuine lack of understanding on here that some people, for whatever reason, are going to find things tough, and yes, even on ‘normal’ mode. And that just because they do, and might have reasons why, doesn’t make them an object of fun and derision. Unless they’re playing in your team and their playing is affecting your enjoyment, then it’s not something that should be upsetting you, is it?
It’s just someone saying, yeah, I didn’t find that easy, or I haven’t done that because it’s beyond my ability. So, I think people need to be a little more appreciative that we are all at different levels, and that many who openly criticise the ‘skill issue’ (previously known as ‘git gud’) probably weren’t that great themselves when they first started out gaming.
Yeah, I have a ‘skill issue’…
Does anyone else?

3 RepliesGreat post 👍 I also have skill issues, or at least feel like I do. I hate puzzles and timed events…and find it annoying that Destiny 2, even in the story missions, are added a lot more of both. I often feel like I can’t figure out the puzzles, and really dislike games when I have to look something up. I also feel like I don’t react quickly, so timed events/ game modes, are hard for me. Recently, as a solo player, I have been using the in game Fireteam Finder a lot. I have been lucky to find a lot of chill Guardians to help me with the “harder/ endgame “ content. It’s been nice to get some of these things completed and start getting some of the rewards. Anyways, good luck to all, as you check out TFS. Looking forward to finding more chill Guardians to get the legendary story mode done.

5 Replieshonestly i blame streamers and the mentality that came with it, cuz everyone wants to be cool and copy the guy that does a raid in a 24h live stream, no one wants to spend a night with friends doing a raid, when i started playing destiny i didnt mind spending 4 hours doing a raid, i was having fun, and still finished even after 4 hours but what you get today is people crying that they spend too much time in an activity, or that the damage isnt optimized enough, etc that right there killed any enjoyment of end game pve, remember GMs ? care to explain who likes spending an entire season grinding their level up just to play a strike with a modifier that has you play 15 lvls under anyway ? that right there is the best example of the issue, sure you get to do GMs and feel special about a title but mainly because more than half the community doesnt have the time for it

1 ReplyI’m in mid 40s and I hope to make it to your age still playing games like this 🫡👍. Keep your chin up!

1 ReplyEdited by Jonty28: 6/10/2024 1:11:24 AMI am always happy to help out where I can - I help through most engame content (pretty much everything bar raids). Feel free to drop me a DM.

2 RepliesDon't put yourself in situations where you can't be at an advantage, sir If you're having problems with the game and its difficulty, either get better (which everyone can do) or play with fellow people that share your same vibes/beliefs so you can make the activities easier and more fun Also, coming to this forum wasn't the play, you have put yourself in a position that leads to shame because most ppl will just trash on you here; but those are my tips

8 RepliesWhy do you always bring this up? You act as if Bungie should make the game terrible just so you can beat it and they can go broke in the process. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. You sound like Eeyore and every time you get sad about yourself you come on here and try to spread your misery around. There are a lot of games for you. Anything on Nintendo, really. Any children's game. I'm 52, can't hear very well and have trouble focusing quickly when enemies appear, but I still do just fine and in pvp last season I averaged a 2.1 in IB. That's not a great accomplishment and I'm not bragging. I'm just saying get over yourself, Eeyore.

1 ReplyHey dude, if you ever need a little help or just want to chill in a fireteam with someone, give me a shout. It's just a game. If you're finding other people being negative toward you, just remember, in reality, their 'triumphs' mean jack. Peace brother!

3 RepliesThere is no good reason that Bungie can’t make an “easy” level for players that are more interested in the story than the immediate availability of loot… Other games do this well - Fallout 4 has an easy mode that makes it enjoyable for folks not interested in anything but having fun with it. This community here is toxic - and will tell you to get better when in it’s just not in you to put in that kind of time, or due to some physical disability. I can’t see too well out of my peripheral vision - so I react really slowly to events that others find easy. I don’t say anything, and it makes others think I just suck at the game- I probably do - but not for the reasons you think… I can’t tell you how many toxic comments I get when I fumble my way through PvP… The community is terrible - and should think more of the reasons why someone isn’t as good as someone else instead of willing them it’s a skill issue…

They feel they have to design the game around the desire of content creators and as such they are driving many players right out the door. I guess if all those who watch them also purchase the year in advance their lack of engagement with the content they purchased doesn’t really matter.
-
1 Replywell they made the game harder based on feedback be that mainly streamers. the thing is none of them complaining it's to easy got worlds first. so they met there match and took one for the team. unfortunately it ended in a bad way for the main player base . because it don't leave anything left. the final shape was it. and many players were left behind.

2 RepliesYou can't be a part of a raid team until they've reviewed your medical records, done a full panel of labs on your blood, sent a private investigator out to make sure your raid report is correct, sniffed your -blam!- to make sure you only ate cheetos, doritos, and mountain dew, and that you can solo a legend exotic mission without taking a single point of damage. Oh, and if you've died in the crucible even once, you can forget the whole thing. Get good.
-
2 RepliesSometimes it's not even a "skill issue", sometimes it's a "do I have the time issue" or a "can I be bothered learning" issue. Take raids for instance, I don't think I will ever bother doing even one, I can't be bothered miking up with people I don't know, having to watch spoiler videos to learn the silly mechanics, then being assigned my role at the risk of being abused if I forget anything which is highly likely to happen - doing all that may be fun to others, not to me.

14 RepliesDifficulty modes were invented for different abilities and playing preferences. There should be an “easy” option for most, if not all, activities. Let people play how they want and make the game as accessible as possible. Rewards can be adjusted to recognise and celebrate higher skill levels.

Jet Set WillyIt’s all going concording to plan 😂🤣 - old
I’ve long believed that the default difficulty level of most content should be completable by everyone that plays the game. The main story, seasonal content etc are not endgame activities and their difficulty should not restrict those that can complete them. People should be able to select a difficulty level that lets them be overpowered/equal/underpowered for these activities if they want to be. Something being too easy doesn’t stop anyone from completing it. But if it’s hard/difficult/challenging then that instantly creates an often insurmountable barrier for many people. I can understand that some people want very challenging gameplay and I wouldn’t want to diminish that. -
2 RepliesEdited by More Power: 6/8/2024 2:03:03 PMIn Halo, there was Easy, Normal, Heroic and Legendary difficulty modes. Almost everyone could complete every PvE activity. Then, there were a dozen different “skulls”, which were difficulty modifiers that could be added to make the game even harder. So, there was a game/mode that challenged everyone, but still allowed almost everyone to complete everything.

3 RepliesFeel you, Guardian! At 63 I know my reflexes and stamina go down. I’ve come across a few players who comment ‘skill issue’ when you ask them something or when you’re not as good as they are. Yes, I may have skill and talent issues, I admit. And I’ve met many Gentle Guardians to help me out at times! Just ask them. I’m a very mediocre player but I enjoy the game a lot. And I don’t mind not being able to solo legend stuff. Eyes up, Guardian!

2 RepliesEdited by The WITNASTY: 6/9/2024 3:25:31 PMDefinitely in PvP I'm terrible and it frustrates me to no end. I mean, I've seen videos showcasing some of the critical flaws in the game itself, getting shot through pillars, getting instagibbed the millisecond I turn a corner, having good target tracing but seemingly doing no damage, even when you get the jump on them, unloading a full clip, meleeing someone 2 times from behind before they turn around and one-punch kill you. I know I'm not good at PvP but the game punishes you that much more. I also hate when I have a good round and I'm still on the bottom rung because everyone else finished with 25-40 kills to my 15. This is why I avoid PvP most of the time. My online friends only like to PvP so on Friday/Saturday nights, it's off to the slaughterhouse. Kind of a tangent but I feel you. I'm older and my reflexes aren't what they used to be.

2 RepliesOP et al…chin-up, Guardians! 🫠 This old tortoise completed the new campaign on normal mode, as usual…because…well, that’s what old tortoises, like me, do! 🫤 I like to explore as I go, enjoy the amazing environments, find the regional gold chests ✅ and just generally take my time getting stuff done. I do most stuff, mostly solo…and when necessary, I use LFG, eg, the -blam!- mission to drop the Witness. I did give it several goes solo, but it didn’t work out. No problemo - let’s go! 🥳 Just did the final 12-man mission last night…it was epic! Bring a handkerchief… 🤔 I stumbled through this campaign solo…doing raid-style mechanics, jumping through way too many hoops for my liking…which is why I don’t do raids / dungeons / GMs or other mad stuff, and normally pootle about, doing mostly ‘vanilla’ stuff…it was a virtual refresher course - Endgame Mechanics 101…🧐 So, I’ve got lots of ‘nearly done’ stuff to complete, eg, Seals / Triumphs / Quests / etc….and I liked that black cowboy hat, too…but, that is a bridge too far for this old tortoise. NVM 🙂 In D1, I had a regular bunch of Guardian buddies, and we did everything and anything, every week. And, come reset, we’d do it all again! That’s how it was, back then… Then came the Sunset debacle…D2…the game’s vibe changed virtually overnight. 🧐 Friends List evaporated…everyone I knew, disappeared…me too…hello WF (MR 24 😎)…and, much, much later, on a wave of nostalgia, after watching so vids my Hunter slayer son and I had made, I returned to Destiny’s shores once more. 😊 But this time, my engagement with Destiny would be different…hence, enter the ‘vanilla’ tortoise! 🫤 I tried Discords - ❌ I looked at other possible Clans - ❌ Nah! 😐 So, here we be… If anyone needs a bod or a hand to get stuff done, I’m usually on around GMT +8 hrs. And if you’re okay with a really chill old tortoise - ping me! ITMT: chin-up, brother Guardians…🫠 Ease springs! 🫡

2 Repliesthere's a lot more cheaters than you think, dude. trust me. people i used to farm suddenly "improved" overnight. they aren't even subtle.

1 ReplyThis is spot on, I am not the gamer i was when i was younger, I enjoy story mode, I like chilling in gaming and not full sweat mode difficulties. I love Destiny, the lore, story, world, loot, MMORPG ideas.... But sadly as a mostly solo player and a player that prefers more difficulty options in games (streamer hard core all the way down to noob story mode) this game is moving away from what I enjoy. Unfortunate but perhaps it's a sign, I loved the 12 player ending and finale and maybe my time with this franchise is over, unless they are gonna provide options for players like me in the future ... well then players like me can play other games I guess.

1 ReplyHonestly enjoy the game your way, whether it's difficult or not. But Ignore the negatives even if it's of your own doing or not.

2 RepliesEdited by An Engram Full Of Bees: 6/9/2024 4:48:34 AMAppreciate you making this post, friend! There’s lots of people who needed to see this. I’m gonna be real with you though, I just have a skill issue because I suck at the game ;-;
-
1 ReplyI have a bit of a skill issue myself, but I think the main reason it gets discussed and brought up is when less skilled people complain about the challenge of reasonably difficult end-game activities.
-
2 RepliesYour issues aren't ours to compensate for. As for understanding........Understanding is a costly affair. Most notably. Costing time.

1 ReplyMy fireteam is myself and one other dedicated player. She's played video games her entire life. She just doesnt have the reflexes or the spatial awareness. Not from lack of trying. Shes just not good at those kinds of things. We've been playing video games together for fifteen years. Ive seen her miss out on many things she wanted to experience. It really turned me into an advocate for low skill gamers. Ive made friends in destiny who have similar stories to you. Illness and injury caught up with them and made things difficult or even impossible. It infuriates me to see the absolute lack of compassion or understanding shown to them. In a world that has seemingly gone mad with pathological compassion, its astounding that we see so little of it when its actually warranted.

1 ReplyI’m just lazy and just checked out the new raid loot and both the armor sets and weapons are of no interest to me with those boring perks combinations. Not going to spoil anything but for me I’ll do the raid once for the emblem, the shader and that’s it They couldn’t have picked more boring perks. Oh great , another solar pulse with the same perks we had on all other recent solar pulses. Oh my god an Arc bow. Holy -blam!- a void glaive that’s no better than the Enigma in any way. Oh dear lord can’t wait to get this loot. People will call it a skill issue, I call it a “not interested” issue. Which is most content really. I love shooting aliens, I don’t love those cheap game mechanics. Anyone, even you, can learn these mechanics with patience and time, even excell at doing them. But some tell themselves it’s too hard. Nothing in D2 is too hard, the question is is it worth doing.
