Can we all agree that Keith David is a legend of voice acting?
That he's done Lance Reddick justice, and made the community proud?

No one was gonna step into the role and be able to be Zavala the way Lance was but this is probably the best alternative we could've ever gotten

Sorry no. Nothing against Keith, he’s a fantastic actor but he’s not Zavala. All of his dialogue was given with a touch of something irritating. Can’t put my finger on it but it doesn’t work for my ears. They also did Zavala the character dirty. His lines and role in the dlc so far have made me want nothing more than to insert Telesto the Unnerfable into every one of his orifices and fire them all simultaneously while bringing his wife back from the dead and letting baby screebs kill her again in front of his eyes.

Yeah, not really a fan of the new voice. Dunno if it’s just I’m so used to Lance thing or not, but it really doesn’t sound good.

4 RepliesMan I couldn’t disagree more. I dont feel like he played Zavala at all. He played himself. It’s insanely jarring every time he talks. I remember they changed ikora’s VA a few years ago. It was such a good match no one even noticed.

I genuinely don't understand the hate I'm seeing for it. Of course it doesn't sound the same, as we've had Lance for 9 years, but Keith did a bang-up job. He was emotional at times and at others carried that stoicism characteristic of Zavala. He did a great job, and no one could replace Lance of course, but Keith surpassed my expectations and pleasantly surprised me. On top of it all, they honored Lance with this and he would probably be glad that his character went out on such a high note.

6 RepliesHe’s done an amazing job, and it’s disgusting how people are hating on him simply because “He’s not Lance”… Keith did a great job as Zavala. The reason it feels different — well — it would feel different after 10 years of the same voice, now being changed. Guys, don’t hate on Keith. He did a great job.

4 RepliesI like Keith David as Zavala. His voice is pretty close to Lance’s I think. It’s similar but different. Idk if anyone else could pull it off or if bungie had the time to look for someone that could sound exactly like Lance. It’s like when Nolan North was Cayde in Forsaken. I thought he sounded like Nathan Fillion. But there were times where I noticed some differences.

Sorry but the voiceover wasent convincing and made the story less convincing… They should have injured zavala or something make the change in voice believable..

Nobody could replace Lance, he has a very distinct voice, Bungie should have wrote him out of the story , with an honorable send off , ikora could have done the tempted by darkness thing, and it would have been the same, actually a chance to give her a backstory And that's no slight on Kieth David, he is a legend in his own right, but Zavala was Lance's role ,and anyone else isn't going to sound like the same person I am wating to see how Guerilla handles Sylens in Horizion 3, because him and Aloy play off each other , so he is an Intergral part of her story , they are in a tighter corner than Bungie -

8 RepliesNah, he uses the exact same character for The President (barack obama) in Rick and Morty. He might improve his Zavala but for now can’t help but burst out in laughter whenever “Zavala” talks in the campaign. And if you haven’t seen Rick and Morty be glad because seeing Keiths (awesome voice) do the President you can never unhear it now when Zavala speaks. I’m not saying he does a bad job but he could do a more serious job and not use the same type for every job he does. Just look up some clips from The President , Rick and Morty on YouTube and you’ll see there is no difference at all between that character and Zavala which is in my eyes a failure because one is a comedy cartoon and one is a serious vanguard member cast. I do declare that Keiths voice and voice acting is amazing but again I feel he failed to capture the seriousness of Zavala completely.

Sadly Mr. Riddick has passed and Bungie had few options. What I felt was wrong with the acting was that it was so vastly different from Zavala of old. Could this be due to the things taking place in the story.. sure however, the inflection and tone given, didn't always feel like Zavala and was very jolting and somewhat confusing. Mr. David did a great job.. its just not Zavala.

I wish they would have retired the character. His voice just…doesn’t sound right for the tone. The whole time I felt uncomfortable with the scenes with Zavala; just because I didn’t think his voice or inflections matched the needed tone of the conversation.

His voice was amazing and i already miss him . Changing zavala his voice is disrespectfull towards lance . They should've let zavala die in the game .. Everyone would have understood it . Cayde-6 or ikora could have taken over his position . They could have come up with a new character that is not something like nimbus and let keith do the voice acting of that new guy . But not as zavala .. Zavala died when lance died in my opinion . Now we just have sergeant foley 2.0 ...
