They’ve said episodes will be “replacing” seasons, which is a very interesting word choice. I’m thinking that they’re either going to try rebranding their yearly model while keeping it the same, or they’re going to shake up the whole foundation. If it’s the latter then I’d be willing to bet the episodes will not be vaulted. People have been extremely vocal about not wanting content vaulted for years, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to make them into bite-sized campaigns that you can replay how and whenever you want (like how DLCs used to be 10+ years ago lol)

I think episodes are basically seasons with a different name, and will work in a very similar/the same way.

This is pure speculation/my opinion but I don’t think they want to talk about it because I think D3 is likely a couple years away and they are hoping to draw out episodes to keep us busy till then. It’s not even because of the “D3 is real” rumors that have happened but more because prismatic proves to me the final shape wasn’t delayed just because of mediocre feedback but also because behind the scene it turned into a good opportunity to use as a test bed for what it would be like if all the classes/subclasses blended so they can get a feel for how they fine tune it for a sequel similar to how many changes happened for crucible right at the end of D1 going into D2. (That didn’t exactly work out but you get my point) Because of this I actually think the episodes will stay in the game because we make our way to D3 for the reasons I described above and there won’t be a need to vault them Again my own take on how things will unfold.

Judging by their past I will say yea they’ll vault it an re-release it later on down the line with a new coat of paint and re-issued weapons with different origin perks.
