Sniper rifles do not exist in Destiny anymore.
In PvE, they have long since not been a viable option. Only when an artifact mod exists to give them an anti-champion property are they used. Whisper and Izanagi are decent, but never enough to warrant consistent use. Bungie does not want PvE to be long range pot shots, so snipers will never be viable on a large scale.
In PvP, snipers cease to be relevant. Since the recent special ammo changes, they have consistently been hovering around 1% total kills in trials by week. 1%. In competitive, it is less dare I say. In 6v6, they are used for a throw away game. The time to line up a head shot is more than enough for someone to place a shot on you. And since every weapon these days causes a mile of flinch to snipers even if anti-flinch mods and high resilience is used, it is nearly impossible to land a shot, let alone a headshot. Primary weapons are so ubiquitously powerful against them, and the special weapon economy provides the final kiss of death to seal their unsuitability. There was ZERO issues with the prior meta. The special weapon changes have turned crucible into buddy blob central where people are incapable of running alone and hero moments do not exist. The most notable causality of these changes is an entire weapon archetype has ceased to have its last remaining functionality.
We know PvE will never be an option. For PvP, either give snipers more special ammo, reverse the special weapon changes, or reduce their flinch. They are the high risk high reward weapon type without any current form of reward.

I honestly hate campers with snipers, but even I have to admit it, snipers at this point are useless. I'd rather see cod levels of quick scoping than use any of the snipers in destiny 2. They have no place, in PvP, or in PvE. You might as well throw the damn thing at the enemy, it'd probably be more effective. What are the snipers shooting frozen peas and carrots? Do I have to go to Walmart to buy ammo? DO I HAVE TO DIG UP SIMO'S FROZEN COPRSE TO SHOW THE DEVS WHAT A SNIPER CAN DO?!!
-
With these nerfs and ammo changes snipers are doing so bad. They need something.
-
I liked the special ammo economy before the meter. The matches I play I’d be surprised if I get killed by a special weapon. I’ve probably have died to a sniper like once or twice in the past week. I’ll tell you what I did die of though, opposing team holding hands and shooting at one single target. Idk what bungie did but this isn’t fun. I have more fun matches in 3v3 than 6v6. The post was correct that nobody flanks anymore. The matches are too passive. It’s not fun at all. I’m not a fan of this sandbox or the special ammo economy. We got d2 year 1 with outliers.

I was a sniper main in PvP for years . Since the nerf and ammo change I haven't used snipers at all. It's just not worth it in this system .

1 ReplyEdited by Infamous067: 5/30/2024 1:04:39 PMSnipers aren’t used because they take a ton of flinch, any pebble will kill your aim. Why would anyone in their right mind use a sniper when they can just use a scout with infinite ammo? Linear fusions also take in a ton of flinch. Back when special ammo was all over the place, it made sense to nerf snipers and linears but now with the meter, I think it’s time they get all their nerfs reverted. Also, I’m down for a sniper buff but I want cloud strike heavily nerfed. That thing in trials is pure cheese

I’m going to disagree with everything here. Disagreed. Snipers are used in almost any endgame activity. They are incredibly good, hitscan with near unlimited range. Their damage got buffed and they feel good. I just like lazy guns myself. Gl’s, shotguns slugs and fusions. The BRAVE Succession can roll with discord/ recombination which is incredibly strong. Then there’s Supremacy and many other elemental snipers which are amazing. 72 RPM’s do twice the damage of a special GL. What do you want, even more?
-
I aggree that in ‘pve’ (other than whisper), snipers are pretty much usless. Have been for a long time.
-
1 ReplySnipers after the change that gives special more frequently in the metre system are perfect where they are and do not need changing
-
-
The problem is bungie designs most pve encounter for close to mid range, that's why smgs and hand cannons were so dominant for so long. D1 content had a bigger variety of space and is why I thing Devils Lair is probably the best strike in D2.
-
Snipers died for me a long time ago when they decided to get rid of 35 zoom scopes. 🤷
-
So we’re just pretending that snipers like Supremacy with Rewind Rounds/FttC dont exist?
-
There is still too much flinch in pve and pvp
-
I'd say 95% of the time snipers are outclassed by many other specials, but that 5% tho 👌

2 RepliesEdited by Hawpy: 5/30/2024 9:50:28 PMIn PvE, I think it is largely due to the increase in enemy density over the last few years. I think it was around Season of the Chosen that we started getting more enemies and in more compact spaces, which was generally seen as a positive because there was more action and those moments of feeling powerful lasted longer. Of course, more enemies that are in your face more often is a huge detriment to Snipers. The ideal rolls on Snipers are exclusively ones used for single target damage, doubling down on their inability to deal with crowds. It's not so much that they are unviable in PvE, they're too inflexible. You can stick on a Slug Shotgun or a Controlled Burst Fusion Rifle as a special weapon DPS option and not think twice when you need to use it to destroy a major or a group of enemies, a Sniper doesn't offer that. It's almost as if the flow chart of when to use one never results in saying you should. If the enemies are below major/miniboss-tier, it's unnecessary. If the big enemy is far away, you don't need to use the ammo because it poses little threat. If it's right on top of you, there's a good chance you'll miss due to proximity and flinch where other weapons don't need to consider that. If you're in a GM and an Overload Minotaur is rushing you down, a Sniper isn't what you want to rely on to kill it.

Snipers can stay dead in pvp. They make the game play horribly, slows everything down because people sit in spawn and hug corners or barricades and hardscope. The game feels so much more fluid and active since sniper usage has gone down.

3 RepliesTreat yo self to a nice beautiful long barreled Supremacy with rewind rounds and kinetic tremors 😌 💅🏻
-
13 Replies100% verifiably false in PvE. Izanagi can’t be replaced in DPS rotations. Whisper is currently the best precision heavy in the game after the last round of buffs for general use. Supremacy w Kinetic Tremors is one of the best major kill/support DPS weapons in the game. Succession is a Mini-Izinagi that plays very well in tougher content like GMs Snipers in general do very well in most content. They’re also by far the best option for anything outside of 20m.
-
2 RepliesI disagree. Supremacy and Succession are two notable snipers for endgame, not counting the 3 main exotic ones. There are a few other good choices as well.

All of these can be crafted and all are amazing snipers They feel so good and can cause some real damage quickly Izzy hits like a Mac truck and is a key component in damage rotations And whisper yes it’s more niche but in longer damage phases like oryx, or golgy it works great

Uh.... you're wrong.

1 ReplyBro definitely misses all of his shots lol

1 ReplyEdited by DieselBaddAss: 5/30/2024 11:58:04 PMSorry but this is more of a click and bait of a lie. Snipers still one shot to the head with very low recoil. I was in a New Territory match and the opponent sniped teammate and I in the head two consecutive shots. All sniper archetypes do need a nerf not to do one shot to the head.
-
1 ReplyThey ruined Crucible and in particular sniping in the crucible with these resent changes, I’m just glad I didn’t preorder the final shape.
-
Couldn't have said it better myself. As someone who loves sniping and sniper rifles in FPS games, it makes me sad and confuses me how much devs hate the weapon type, despite still putting it in their games. Destiny has gotta be the worst example of this, with all the usual anti-sniper tropes, plus the fact that if any player or ai enemy in either PvP or PvE so much as sneezes in your general direction, your scope starts doing 180s and 360s and 720s, making it impossible to land a single shot. I don't really play PvP, but in PvE you literally CANNOT use a sniper if one of its perks isn't an anti-flinch perk, meaning that sniper rifles basically only have 1 perk slot. It's a complete joke.

1 ReplyThen why does everyone switch to cloudstrike the first Trials or comp round they lose ?
