Ranking my favorite destinations in D2 to Patrol

I will be including destinations that we’re sunset on this list. #1. Nessus - Nessus is my #1 favorite area to patrol. it’s colorful, has lots of flora, massive trees, and Vex architecture. It reminds me of Venus. I’ve always been fascinated by the Vex. Nessus still seems mysterious to me after all these years. As if there's some secret I'm missing. It’s very visually striking, so it's no surprise that even the top of the Bnet forum page (on desktop) features some Nessus concept art haha. #2. Europa - A destination with snow? SIGN ME UP. It’s not just the climate that puts this Winter Wonderland this high on my list, I think the Clovis Bray and Fallen City areas are super interesting. I also like the fact that sometimes a blizzard will occur, reducing the players visibility for a short time. I wish more destinations had similar dynamic weather conditions. #3. The Dreaming City - This destination has some really beautiful areas. When I patrol the Dreaming City, I usually go straight to the Gardens of Esila. This particular area has a good amount of enemies in it, and since it’s a “private zone” (idk what else to call it; meaning only you and your fireteam can enter it, and not random players) It’s nice and quiet. I also think this destination has really cool lore. #4. EDZ - Ah yes, the EDZ. It’s a classic destination. Did you know that the EDZ was a planned destination for Destiny 1? I honestly forget how big the EDZ is sometimes. Although there would be more to explore if Fallen shields weren’t blocking some areas. Still a nice place to Patrol in my opinion. #5. Titan - When D2 first launched, I was not a fan of this area. I thought it was too small and uninteresting. It was only after I started to explore the “Solarium” area did I actually start to patrol it more frequently. There is not much of the city you can explore due to some doors being blocked. Which is a common trend in patrol, and one I am not a fan of. Some parts of the Solarium kinda feels like you’re walking through an abandoned mall. Titan also gives me Resident Evil: Revelations vibes. #6. Cosmodrome - The Cosmodrome is probably one of my favorite places to patrol in Destiny 1. However In Destiny 2, Bungie kinda butchered it, in my opinion. First of all, the snow is gone. Which I think removes a lot of the character that it originally had in the first game. I do not like the way it looks now. It's all green/brown, I feel like the snow was a key part of this destination's color palette. BUT okay I can look past that…or I COULD if there weren't missing areas. The Rocket Yard, and The Blast areas are missing in Patrol. A few years ago they canceled their plans to expand the cosmodrome, so we won’t be seeing these areas anytime soon. I truly believe Bungie should NOT have brought the Cosmodrome back at all. But oh well. Even though it’s #6 on my list, I still go to the Skywatch very often, especially when I need to test a new weapon. The enemy density there is really good imo. lol. #7. Moon - This destination is a favorite of mine from D1, so it's rank on this list might be due to a bit of nostalgia. However, I think the additional areas Bungie added to the moon are nice. The deep, blood red-colored architecture is a nice touch. Overall a good destination in my opinion. #7 Echo Mesa, Io - While I’m not the biggest fan of this destination, I think some parts of it are cool, such as Asher Mir, and the Vex aspect of the destination. Also the fact that the Traveler was once at this Destination is cool. However I don’t think the color palette is very visually appealing. Not a lot I can say about Io, I’m not a big fan, it's decent. #8 The Tangled Shore - One thing I can say about the Tangled Shore is that…It’s very rocky. There's lots of rocks. Little rocks, big rocks, floating rocks. You want rocks? This place has got ‘em. Anyway, this place is cool. I did patrol it a bit but the only area that I think is really cool is the crashed dreadnaught ship. I think everything else is just alright. I think that's just the nature of the beast, it's an asteroid wasteland. So this area isn’t really supposed to look “pretty”. I still think its cool, it just wouldn't be my first choice when patrolling back then. #9 Hellas Basin, Mars. Oh boy, where do I begin, this area was a disappointment to me. Not very large, so not a lot to explore. There's some snow & ice, I think that's cool. #10. Neptune - I didn’t buy the Lightfall DLC so I never felt compelled to really patrol this destination. Although even with the small amount of patrolling I have on this destination, I can say I do not like most of it. I think the layout of the city is odd. I get that it's a futuristic city but I just think there's a lot going on, too much even. Too many colors, blegh! Some parts are nice though. I REALLY like exploring the Typhon Imperator area. That’s about it. #11. Savathun’s Throne World - Similarly, I didn’t buy the Witch Queen DLC so I never felt compelled to check out the Throne World, but I’ve been there a few times. However I don’t have enough patrol-experience on this destination to say much, so take this ranking with a grain of salt. It's got really cool architecture. Any area bigger than Mercury automatically gets put above it on this list. #12. The Lighthouse, Mercury - So this is it huh? This is the weakest patrol destination I have ever had the displeasure of Patrolling. I mean, I still patrolled on it but…yeah. Okay that’s my list. What does yours look like? What is your favorite destination? Whether it’s from D1 or D2. feel free to let me know, I’m curious about what you have to think! Best wishes - The Patroller

  • Happy to see Nessus on top. For me it’s either Nessus or Dreaming City.

  • 1.Tangled Shore.I like the music when you landed in and I enjoyed Spider’s remarks. Dreaming City is second only because I saw it first in Lord of the Rings.

Dreaming City no question. The skybox, the scale, the secrets, the rotating curse... it's unparalleled. After that it's a toss up between The Moon and EDZ. I miss Venus from D1 though. First time exploring that I realised that I was hooked.

        • I think mars was one of the more fun locations to explore with all the secrets and stuff there but the actual main parts of mars were very boring. It’s the same reason why I really like Nessus so much, and Nessus’s main locations are actually cool. This is also the reason why I hate mercury, it has quite a few extra areas but you are just not allowed to go there. Neptune would have been the worst if it wasn’t for mercury imo. I would have rather a patrol on the witnesses ship because of how cool it looks Other than that I prefer the tangled shore over io. I wish it went more into the Wild West but in space theme it had in places, It would have been really funny if they had every enemy race there but as it was it had the most variety with fallen, cabal, hive and scorn

        • I gotta agree on Nessus being the best. I also really love Europa as well and I wish these areas would get some expansion especially the Deep Stone Crypt. Would love to see new areas unlock. EDZ is also really nice looking and I wish it were possible to go deep into the dark forest. Not so much a destination but the cornfields and ruined buildings that are visible from the enclave on Mars I really really wish I could explore more of.

        • Europa is my personal number 1. I just absolutely love the design of the skybox and the red matter inside the ice, the ecliptic sun in the distance, the weather changes. Then there's the braytech and the vex constructions, as well as the Fallen quarter. I love all of it.

          • Patrol used to be fun and interesting in D1, you could spend so much time running on the moon or dreadnought. D2 is very vanilla and bland

                • For me, it was always a matter of practicality when trying to bounty farm. As such, the order was: Tangled Shore EDZ Nessus Moon. I didn’t care for much else. My favorite area to run patrols is the Moon, because it’s the only one with a true weapon farm attached to patrolling. I still love it.

The Dreaming City is probably my favourite in D2. It’s a beautiful combination of sci-fi and fantasy. The Ascendant Realm provides some horror — an essential ingredient for me in Destiny. It’s closely followed by Titan, EDZ and Europa (for pretty much the same reasons you described). Nessus sits somewhere in the middle for me. I love parts of it, but it always felt a bit too bright and colourful for my taste. The Tangled Shore and Mars had good parts, but these locations just didn’t grab me as much as the ones above. I appreciate the aesthetic of Savathun’s Throne World, but TWQ came out while I was taking a long break from Destiny, so I’ve not properly connected with it. I never really got into Io. Not sure why. Neomuna is one of my least favourite. In my eyes, it looks more toy town than cyberpunk. Mercury had such great potential with the contrast of “golden age” and “apocalypse” we briefly visited in the campaign, but the patrol area just didn’t deliver (although I do remember the Adventures being good fun and The Haunted Forest was my favourite event in D2). *I’ve left out the reprised D1 locations, as I prefer them in D1.
In D1, my favourites were The Cosmodrome, The Moon and The Dreadnaught. Felwinter’s Peak is by far my favourite social space in all of D1 and D2.
• That's a good list. There would probably be some of them that I would have tied with each other and I might put EDZ and Dreaming City in front of or tied with Europa. Throne World would also be higher than it is. Either way, the fact that some of the older Destinations have held up this long is a testament to the foresight they originally released with as well as how much better they looked after the graphical upgrades and such.

                    • I like Europa, especially Eventide. The buildings there are very reminiscent of Freehold and I like the more humble aesthetic they give the Golden Age as apposed to the shiny and clean streets of the Titan arcologies and Neomuna Also i like Snowy environments

                    • what an awesome list - I honestly enjoy EDZ, just riding around on my sparrow, doing the circuit, taking in all the scenery (seriously, I know we're all jaded players by now, but do people stop and actually look at how much detail Bungie crams into a location you're going to blaze through? it's a TONNE). I think I've clambered around, on, under or ever nearly every building and structure in EDZ like an urban explorer....or at least I think I have, and then I find a new thing I didn't realise was there. Thank you for sharing this concept. It's stuff like this, and the Destiny Photographer and other creatives, that really make this game for me.

DC is my favorite. Edit: I really like Io too... I've probably played Arecibo hundreds, if not thousands of times. That mission really got me invested in the lore, I really didn't care about the story before that. "Beware those that grant unlimited power, but ask for nothing in return". Power like ours always has a price. There is no light here.
