I've always been confused on the rules of a throne world. Like, I know you have to kill strong opponents but what else do you have to do? Some vex have killed countless gaurdians, but they don't have throne worlds. Then, what determines its appearance? Savathuns throne looks like a different planet, while crotas is like a castle? Finally, do throne worlds disappear when the owner dies. Cause Hiraks fell apart as soon as he died, while all others still remain?

2 RepliesIt likely takes paracausal power to harness the killing power gained. The Vex, in our system, have only made their throneworld like spaces in places that had been infused with power from the Traveler. As they cannot directly harness it, this is the likely work around that allowed them to. Their throneworlds are places like The Infinite Forest, the Vault of Glass and the Pyramidion. The owner/maker of the throneworld decides how it looks and operates. The extent of which is unknown. And yes, Hiraks fell apart and that’s likely how they should but the major ones are also game places and cutting them out would be problematic. So that’s likely why we’ve never gotten any decent details on them. It’s easier overall to just keep it vague. Let’s you get away with contradictory things. Like why it was only Hiraks- cause it felt better narratively but defining it would affect part and future content.

Killing isn’t the only requirement for creating a Throne World, the Mindbender had to immerse himself in Hive Arcana to manage to create one for himself, as did Toland. The killing power has to be harnessed in some way, with the Hive it’s their Worms.

I may be incorrect, as I have not generally followed the Hive's lore since they are my least favorite faction, but Throne Worlds are part of the Ascendent Plane so it likely does require a link to it. Only the Ascendant Hive and other powerful characters that have a paracausal link to that plane are likely able to create their own Throne World. For example, Toland the Shattered has his own small bubble that he was chased out of by Mara during her return to the Dreaming City. Killing powerful entities is seemingly only one of the steps, and most likely only available to those with paracausal powers such as Hive magic as Hiraaks would have had access to. As for why the old Throne Worlds are still around, it is likely because there are still Ascendant Hive in the hierarchy that haven't been killed yet.
