Random Drop Catalysts: how does it work?

Hello. Been playing Destiny for years and I am still missing the random catalyst drops. Can someone explain to me how it works, exactly? Does the difficulty of the enounter matter? Do I need to have the weapon equipped? And how come in years I didn't drop the Thunderlord or Cloudstrike cata? I am just unlucky or doing something wrong? Help. lol

  • To add to Clöyne comment, there is zero hard proof that the catalysts work based on completing in-complete ones; Bungie have never told us that it works like that. My alt had most catalysts minus Suros prior to completing them, it hasn't has Suros drop in the months since they've all been done. Year-1 catalysts ever since their introduction have had a stupidly low drop rate and this late in the game should just be in the monument kiosk.

  • You do not need the weapon equipped or on your character or even in the vault but you do need to have the weapon unlocked. As far as getting them from playlists it's jus rng you can get get 1 right after another from a strike/crucible or you can go 50 rounds with 0 drops. I found that completing any outstanding catalysts I got my nxt fast but that could just be coincidence, others have said the same but hope that helps.
