At least on this forum based on the discourse on related posts and a bungie mod response. The reception to ammo crates is generally poor.
Based on that. In general, this opinion can be assumed to be in the majority.

That's a good thing, but most are talking about trials, I find them to be awful in comp as well.

I play mostly trials and while I'll say it is particularly bad on trials since it doesn't mesh with the specific objective. I just hate fighting over ammo. And ruining position for ammo. And teammates wiping for ammo. Yeah I don't think I'll like it in any mode personally. It's a bad distraction.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe if it only spawns one box that may not be so bad. But the constant spawning boxes are a pain, and bad in a lot of situations, particularly in trials though I'll say it's much worse.
