What was/is your motivation to continue practicing the instrument you chose? Asking for a friend :)

  • Experimenting with different tunings is quite fun! 😁 Open C (CGCGCE) is my personal favorite; less to think about when I’m playing, so I can just riff out.

  • Played the trombone for 5 years. I really only practice in band, bad habit of mine branching from barely-medicated ADHD. But my motivation for sticking around? It's good fun, and I like playing.

  • Typically it's a duty thing. I have an obligation to practice, and once I start, I can find it hard to start, even with an instrument as frustrating as mine.

    • I was a band kid and loved it. Practiced for concert band competitions, for marching band parades, and half-time shows. Playing was one of the few good things about school.

    • I play piano pretty well, but no where near as well as people who consistently have time to practice more than two hours a week. I also play French horn for school and the mellophone for marching band.

    • I just kinda practice when I need to 🤷🏻‍♀️. Whether it’s learning a new song, or going over one I find difficult or haven’t played in awhile

    • I haven’t had much time to practice the piano this school year, because I have been very busy. But once summer break starts, I am determined to learn this song. https://musescore.com/user/18042251/scores/6791025?share=copy_link

    • My motivation? I just really love it, and there isn't anything I'd want to do more than succeed as a touring musician. So I guess my motivation is because I love it, and I want to succeed. I realize this is pretty different from most other people's idea of playing an instrument; as a hobby or whatever. I continue practicing to get better. Not unlike Asta from BC, (which I haven't watched) it is a continued obsession, a power creep if you will. I try to get better so then I am better at writing riffs/I can play harder songs.

    • I do it when I want to. Not out of guilt. Practicing goes a lot better when it’s not something you dread. My instruments are just hobbies, so why brother worrying myself over them
