PVP Special Economy

I returned to D2 from vanilla D2 about 3 months ago and I mainly play PvP. Yes, I know its a PvE game with PvP in it but, I mainly play PvP because this game has super fun sniper characteristics and takes alot of skill compared to every other PvP game I've played. Anyways, I hated vanilla Destiny 2 because of how the ammo worked with double primaries. The only way to get a kill in Vanilla was with teamshoting (Mida and a sidearm). Since my return to the game it was fun until the recent sandbox update (I think its 7.3.5 ) occurred with more health, and a new special ammo system... It sucks! The only way kills happen now is teamshotting lanes. You and your friends camp together and wait until someone peeks then you win, its ridiculous. Now I have to savor my special ammo like it's heavy. Why is Bungie taking steps backwards towards vanilla after the game was actually fun in PvP again. Plus I just now became aware they are drip feeding into the light weapons... why bungie, your killing the game yourself. Final shape will be a major flop if the PvP sandbox stays like this, and your going to probably drip feed that entire expansion. I would like to hear everyone who plays PvP their thoughts on the new sandbox.

  • Completely agree all I wanted was for them to nerf fusions but instead they made this dumpster fire. I’m a sniper and handcannon user but now snipers are almost non viable. Just tried an auto rifle today and it’s literally easy mode… a back and forth team shooting snooze fest 💤 I’d be fine with zero ability’s but they need to bring back the old special system. Ik Ik the cry baby’s don’t wanna get aped… too bad, get good, crucible is a bot walking mess it’s boring.

Snipers in this game have sometimes taken skill and at times for some people they have taken less skill than a shotgun. Snipers can probably come back in some form or fashion but sandboxes where people mained special ammo were plenty tedious in their own right. People are only thinking about the fact that they can't use something and not what it was like when everyone was maining ohk and abilities.

  • The new sandbox kicks the one before it in the nuts, takes its lunch money and sleeps with its mother. What we have now isn't perfect, but god is it so much better than what came before it. It's a step in the right direction at the very least, especially after they crapped on bows.

    I like the current sandbox much better than what it was. I was a casual who only played for weapons. Now I play comp and QP regularly so I can improve. They’re trying to get more people playing PvP and it’s working. Numbers were abysmal in the previous sandbox.

      A couple of my loadouts go neutered like trace rifles forerunner is still viable but the ammo feels worth less compared to an instakill like a fusion or a shotgun I agree with you as well, being able to hit the optimal TTK is easy, but using obscure special weapons was a special kind of fun for me because I could use them so often It's also hard to do a weapon showcase on a special weapon because I can't get it as often

      I like the new sandbox. Less shotgun/fusion apes and special weapons now have a more meaningful risk/reward. In comparison to D2Y1, TTKs are faster, movement is faster, more weapon options and more ability options. If you want more special ammo, try Collision — it has special ammo crates. It’s a fun game mode too.

    • Im the opposite. I find sniper players just hold lanes and hard scope because it’s really easy to get a free kill that way. I’m glad the special economy exists now because it removes that style of play and encourages gun fights. Albeit precision ARs are maybe hampering that right now 😂

        I like the new sandbox. I like that every weapon can be effective. There’s definitely an emphasis on moving with your team but even in 6’s I find myself being able to isolate 1v1 situations. I use a shotgun/hc and, especially on bigger maps, I usually find that I have an abundance of special ammo. I enjoy the focus on primary/team play and intentional ability use. I hate scout rifles but that’s personal. Lots of diversity in the current sandbox. All in all; a dub.

      • No one wants to hear my thoughts on the entire sandbox. Having the weapons come out weekly is the same thing they do when other weapons come out in other playlists. The way special ammo was before didn't really ever work right and if you can only get a kill by teamshotting then there's most likely a lot of reasons for that. You don't have to save special like its heavy. Special is inbetween primary and heavy instead of being like either of the two. It was like primary ammo before and pretending like picking up ammo after you fusion someone was a skill got old after a while.
