Into The Light Confirms Destiny 3?
I believe it was either Chris Barrett or Luke Smith who once explained that the reason why Rise of Iron / Age of Triumph had such high power fantasy was because they knew D2 was coming and it didn't matter how much they broke the game.
After the ITL showcase today, it seems they are once again unleashing the power fantasy. With some of those perk combos, I can't believe they will be able to sustain that for long in a way that doesn't conflict with their "don't trivialize content" philosophy.
I will be surprised if a D3 announcement doesn't follow TFS with the Episodes and 2025 being a buffer for a D3 release in possibly 2026.
Maybe a D3 under Sony leadership might actually be worthwhile.

It definitely means the game is over, but it doesn't mean a sequel is in the plans, and with Bungies financial predicament I very seriously doubt it They might not even exist has a company this time next year , so I doubt a D3 is in the plans -
2 RepliesThere won't be a d3... things can change though, but with the new game I doubt that Destiny was a 10 year project and through various delays it has gone on a bit longer. Final shape will be the final year of Destiny, in terms of a live service.... can only assume they are adding the power fantasy now as the game has only a year (+ a few months) left. I think there was a post from bungie a little while back saying tbc for post final shape, but I think that'll be how the game processes from a live service to a fixed world... assuming they don't just turn the server off (only one server right, lol).

No I totally agree. Game will go on life support for 18 months of episodes and we will get a new title some time end of 2026 / early 2027.

I don’t think Sony D3 would be any better or worse than a Bungie D3. They have suits that will limit what they want worked on based on their monetary goals, not what would make a good game. That said, there’s no D3 on the way. The best time to drop that bombshell would have been when morale was at an all time low (layoffs, bad writing and storytelling in Lightfall leading to reduced preorders, etc.), and it’s crickets. Bungie needs a fat win to keep their jobs, and they don’t have it because all their resources went into Marathon.

11 RepliesHonestly I don't see a D3 going over well because they'd have to do another full reset. People lost their minds when D2 did a full reset at the beginning and lost their minds again with the soft reset halfway through that was sunsetting. Do you really want to be sold VoG, Crota, and Oryx again?

They are trying to create hype for the DLC by returning fan favorite weapons. Its not enough to make me buy the DLC, only way ill play it is if people buy me it like people bought me WQ and LF

1 ReplyThe initial state of D3 will be terrible, just like D1 and D2. Besides, there would be too many complaints about hard earned loot being "for nothing", because D3 is a fresh start.

2 RepliesIt might be so. The new Episode system for TFS was created to allow the dev team to take longer breaks. I think it’s pretty obvious that they’re not going to just be sitting on a beach, but rather cooking up a new project. That project could be Marathon, or it could be D3. It really could go either way. They could be working on D3 and keeping it under the radar, OR they could just be preparing for Marathon’s release and the reason they’re letting the game die is because D2 is just out of their focus now. I don’t know if Sony will let Bungie kill their flagship franchise though, so if there is a D3 on the horizon, it better rock our world compared to the steaming pile of garbage we’re in right now.

They said those stories will be disjointed and can be played in any order. Sounds super casual to me. However, it seems pretty impossible to me that if there was a D3 in development, that someone hasnt squealed about it already. I agree though, the return of some of these weapons is [u]very[/u] suspicious.

It is not Bungie's fault that the power fantasy got reduced. If people can't handle it and then don't pay attention when they are jumping on the PvP complaint bandwagons then they need to at least be told there's not as much power fantasy because they keep coming on here saying they can't handle it. Plus some of yalls power fantasy is "have the game make me beat someone I have no business beating." And if the abilities and weapons don't do it, something had better do it.

2 RepliesI doubt there will be a D3 unless it's sold to another studio. I do believe that after Final Shape is released Destiny gets a skeleton crew and everyone else goes to Marathon and other projects.
