Persistence card - how to complete it successfully

As of the update on March 19, 2024:
Fixed an issue where the Passage of Persistence could become flawed when losing a game while at 0 wins, preventing players from earning the Adept reward at 7 wins.
Original Post below, for those who continue to have issues: Looking around it seems a lot of people have some issues with the new card and after gathering a whole lot of anecdotal evidence of possible problems, putting up a post about how to successfully complete the Passage of Persistence and get an adept version of the weekly trials weapon can maybe help some folks before they get started. This post assumes you know the basics of how a trials passage works For starters, the D2 team put out this tweet on March 8 -
@Destiny2Team To clarify some confusion with the Passage of Persistence: If you lose while at 0 wins, your card will become Flawed and will not remove wins on losses or reward the Adept at 7 wins. To fix this, if you lose while at 0 wins, reset your passage to remove the Flawed status.
More on that below, but first, the text of the card is as follows
Losses following a win remove the win from the card. Reaching seven wins rewards the weekly Adept weapon. Reaching seven wins without having a win removed grants access to the Lighthouse. This passage cannot be used to focus Adept weapons.
The card tracks flawless as all the other cards do, except it uses the parameters described above. This means that the card also needs to remain flawless for it to work, so if at any point the flawless box gets a red X in it, the card will not give the intended reward Based on other users' feedback there seem to be a couple of ways to flaw the card... 1) As mentioned in the D2 Team tweet, starting a fresh card with 0 wins, and losing your first match, will flaw the card. It seems like the cards may not be marked flawed right away, and this has been throwing a lot of players off. Some may think the flawed mark doesn't matter because of how this card works - this is not true. What we've been noticing is that there may be an issue where you actually need to secure 2 consecutive wins at the start of the card (One win at the start followed by a loss will set the card back at zero), so if you've been getting one win then a loss, and your card becomes flawed, this is probably why 2) Do not leave a match early. Sometimes people get disconnected unwillfully and it sucks, but it will flaw the card and you'll have to reset. Presumably this is a safeguard for how this card works. To be sure, don't leave until after the final score screen comes up and you can go into the destination menu, select a trials match and the launch button is green/selectable - this is the quickest way to get you into the next match anyway. Again, the most basic takeaway here is that if your card is marked flawed, it will not reward you an adept weapon at 7 wins. TLDR; - You need to win the first match on this card (probably the first 2 in a row) for it to work - If the card is marked flawed for any reason, you need to reset it (if you want the card reward/adept weapon) - Don't leave matches early. This might include leaving before the final score screen comes up Other things/observations; - This card, like all other cards, is reset weekly. The "permanent wins" are just for that run of the card, not forever - When you have succesfully completed the card, the adept weapon will drop at the end of the 7th win match, along with any other rewards - It seems that some people are making it to the lighthouse on this card, by actually getting 7 straight wins from start to finish, and they may not get the adept weapon drop from the 7th match, but instead from the lighthouse chest. Even with a "true" flawless run, you still can't focus a 2nd adept weapon at Saint with this card :\, and it doesn't seem it will give more adept drops if you farm the card after 7 wins - Try to keep track of your card progress. If it's just stacking wins and not accounting for losses, it should be marked flawed and won't drop an adept weapon.

  • "To clarify some confusion"? Word for word what was said in both the TWAB about the passage, and on the passage itself, is that you get seven wins, you get an Adept. You get seven wins with no losses, you go to the Lighthouse. So, we got misinformation from Bungie in their official blog and in-game on the card itself. There really is just no point to playing Trials at all unless you can already go Flawless, is there?

I got "anteatered" out of a Game 6 up 3-1 and had no idea that would break the card. Then stayed up late to get to 7 wins and...absolutely nothing. At least I learned something grinding on a map I don't know well and using autorifles that I don't ever use in PVP but this is pretty disappointing.

I wish this would get pinned to the top, somehow. It would answer a lot of people's questions and maybe cut down on the amount of posts where people are saying the same thing over and over. Well written and concise, nice job. One of the things they should definitely fix is when you have a win, then a loss, but it still shows five rounds won. That should be your protected card rather than the game seeing it as a new, no-win card.
