Anti-fomo?
I dont know what exactly to call this so lets go with anti-fomo.
So you built the game around fomo and I have some interesting feedback from my son - who hasnt played in a while.
“If I start playing again I wont have any good guns”
So there are costs of creating a fomo game. Once people drop off its hard to attract them back because the got fomo’d and now the grind is painful not fun.

Utilizing limited time events, weapons, and purchases is literally built on the idea of, and acknowledges that a player who falls behind will likely not come back…. It’s an absolutely absurd gamble and doesn’t lead to enjoyment for the player, because there are instances where a player who is not having a good time, might feel inclined to play, as not to miss out. This leads to players potentially spending time with your game in a state of frustration…. They sacrifice their brand name to strong arm 3-4 more hours of a player having a -blam!- experience to report engagement metrics back to the shareholders. It’s a failed concept, all of the data is skewed and out dated, and FOMO needs to be eradicated from this series and all of gaming.

3 RepliesThe early game needs to be better. You should be able to jump back in at any point and know you'll be effective and viable in an instant. This IS something that Warframe and other MMOs do better... No, you won't be "optimal" or "min-maxed"... but you will be viably effective in most spaces because these early game catch-up mechanics are in the game.

Edited by Veg 317: 3/7/2024 4:13:51 AMThe newer weapons are underwhelming. I'm still using the same guns as I was 2 yrs ago. Most the new perks just aren't that good imo. So don't stress over catching up just find what works for you and play on.

I haven’t played in 6-9months. I’m checking in because I heard something about surf boards/skimmers being introduced & wanted to find out if they were fun? I still have a few friends that never broke the Destiny addiction and they are still running the same guns from years past. If anything the weapons released this last year or so appear to be underwhelming compared to what was on offer before Beyond Light. There’s no FOMO with regards to weapons in this game for those that played longer than a year ago in my opinion. Correct me if I’m mistaken.

I currently use almost nothing that has released in the past year(weapons wise). There are a few outliers but in general if you went away two years ago with great guns, they will still be good now. Maybe not as good due to patches/re-balences, but not trash rate as the god-roll community would have you believe. If the gun feels good to use for you, and is fun. Go ahead and use it. Outside of doing a grandmaster nightfall or master raid you don't need meta gear to succeed in this game.

Destiny 1 is Anti-FOMO. I suggest playing that game and avoid DeStInY 2.
