The double special meta was fun, mostly due to the massive amounts of heavy spawning, but it also highlighted the strengths of trace rifles. They were clearly better than all primaries and it was a blast to have one equiped with a fusion or another special exotic.
But not that much better. Traces aren’t used because they really only due a little more damage than a damage buffed auto.
They should receive a massive buff (40%) to majors and bosses and a smaller buff (15%) to minors.
Edit: This is PVE ONLY, I could give af about PvP trace damage.

Trace rifles should just use primary ammo except for Divinity
-
Wavesplitter with gyrfalcon’s on hunter is straight busted

Yeah im ngl a trace meta or anything close sounds abysmal, but if it's pve only, do whatever ya want.

7 RepliesI still use a double special with the trace rifle. It's just in general an enjoyable weapon. I do feel it starts to fall off a little bit sometimes, though.

6 RepliesYou're wrong. Trace rifles are one the best dps specials in the game that rival lmg output.... And they're still getting a buff... don't know if that happens Tuesday or one of the updates later or it might just be PvP but I'm not sure. 20% which amounts to a 5% buff in PvP with the health changes.... Doesn't seem like a lot but they were already on the bubble. In PvE they're one of my favorite weapon types... both Legendaries and exotics.... both Coldheart and Ruinous Effigy are S tier. Here's proof: Maven - Trace Rifles Hit your crits, is what I always say... if you can't they're mid, if you CAN, they melt.
-
Honestly agree because basically they are just laser versions of auto rifles. I remember Cold Heart being amazing for even stuff like Calus. Now they just don't feel like they use to for me. Maybe that's in part because ammo drop rates are terrible even with finder mods because Bungie just had to make Juggler a permanent part of the game, but that's just how it's felt to me for the longest time.

1 ReplyI think the damage is fine but the ammo needs changing. More ammo on pickup and a higher reserves.

They only need a small buff

I wouldn’t mind trace rifles being primary weapons again. Or at least introduce a primary archetype of trace rifle.

Theyre fine as is, they melt red bars like theyre supposed to. If you want a Yellow bar melter, shottiesdd and fusions exist

1 ReplyEdited by Kiro - 13: 3/2/2024 10:42:24 PMThey could encode trace rifles to have a higher rate of special ammo production on kill to solve the problem. They are also still the best choice for farming content such as Avarokk on master or Ecthar, they just dont have the "legs" any more to stay on through out entire activitys. I think Bungie does not want trace rifles to shine again in PvE if Im being honest.
-
I always thought instead of an ammo clip they should have a depleting charge, maybe strengthened up by ionics traces, firesprites etc depending on its subclass. That way maybe they could be higher damage?
-
It really comes down to that trace rifles are meant to be a special primary and that niche just isn't a valuable one one in destiny.

1 ReplyPVP damage needs to stay as is and pve damage needs major buffs yea. But since they rarely decide to split buffs/nerfs in pve and pvp they probably just decided to keep traces trash because it would break pvp...

3 RepliesMind aswell move it over to the heavy slot with those changes
