The game has seen a lack of rare loot over the past few years. That in combination with lack of loot changes to match the subclass changes has killed the excitement that used to come from finally getting that drop you wanted. Weapons may finally be getting some love with the Final Shape adding new weapon variants, but the loot still needs to be exciting to obtain.
I don’t know the exact solution, but I do know we have had times where things were better. Take the forsaken release for example. We had rare exotics added to the game. My first forsaken drop happened in the haunted forest and was shards of Galanor. Not all that many had them and it was actually exciting to get it to drop. Now you just run a lost sector a couple times and you have yourself the new exotic.

The only rare exotics left in the game are RNG drops from raids and dungeons. Problem with these is that you have 3 chances a week and are rarely surprised by the drop. Bit different than killing an enemy or completing a random activity and being surprised with a rare exotic drop. Remember seeing Ghorn drop from the end of a crucible match?
That’s another thing, show the rewards that other players get at the end of an activity.
An additional benefit would be returning Xur’s reason to exist.

14 RepliesEdited by Rogue: 2/13/2024 11:59:23 PMIn my opinion, crafting killed the loot system. For Destiny’s entire life span, getting 5/5 God roll was something to get excited about. Even if you didn’t like the gun, it was nice to have the best version of something. But crafting did one thing that unbalanced this entire system, it made 5/5 God rolls no longer be the best. So the thing we had been chasing for years, a perfectly rolled weapon is now nowhere near as desirable, and instead people just want red border weapons. They don’t care about the roll, it’s irrelevant, you just need enough to craft the weapon. Personally, I don’t want crafting removed. I think it’s good for the game, but the loot system needs to be changed around crafting, right now it’s like the old and new systems are cannibalising each other.

2 RepliesThe number 1 difference between D1 and D2 is exotics meant something. But back then, the casual base started complaining that exotics were "too difficult" to obtain, exotics (weapons especially) were only for the hardcore sweats and casuals were being punished etc.. And so Bungie started making it easier and easier to obtain. this mentality as taken over pretty much every aspect of the game to make sure that "everyone gets a trophy" in an effort to make the game more approachable and appealing. Problem with that is a Loot Shooter is massively dependent on Loot and the grind for the loot. - Raid loot is basically given away now - crafting has made the RNG Godroll chase pointless - Comp has no real "chase" loot anymore - Trials has become pretty much free these days - Exotics aren't exotics anymore - too easy to obtain. Don't have something? Just go spam a boring lost sector in 2 minutes runs over and over again till you get everything you need for that slot.

but the loot still needs to be exciting to obtain. I don’t know the exact solution
1. Make new base model Not every AR must be M416 in different casings, make a new base model derived from AUG or any different weapon, even a fictional one if necessary 2. Make identity for weapons, making them unique instead of relying on perks. Hek, you can even take notes from any game on any genre Example : Ixia from MLBB Shoots homing crystal on enemies, applying a mark. When an enemy has two marks, the next hit pulls the crystals back, dealing damage and healing you for a portion of the damage dealt Overdrive mode : allows you to shoot six enemies at the same time within aiming reticle for a short time. You can make it to consume a portion of super, class, melee or grenade energy to limit the usage Model : arm cannon/drone, your choice That's just some basics

I think the only problem with the exotic situation during forsaken was how broken they were. You NEEDED them to be able to keep up in PvP and PvE, that was the period when exotics were at their peak strength. If they weren’t as broken, having them be super rare isn’t a problem.

1 ReplyThe tradeoff for GHorn moments is that you have people feeling bad they don't have something for months, even potentially being excluded from activities due to a roll of the dice not favoring them I'd rather see rare cosmetics introduced as drops, like Nano Phoenix back in D1, or the Calus chair from Spire of Stars. Stuff that still feels good to get, but isn't holding you back if you don't

4 RepliesEdited by The Hermit IX: 2/14/2024 12:27:21 AMWorld drops are becoming the chase these days. I’m still trying to get the roll on the new void 600 AR. So I think that was a smart thing on their part World drops are really solid weapons so they’re worth chasing and can drop while playing your favorite activities. Not a chore list. I think they could make the perks for crafting a process of unlocking them from RNG drops You get a RNG drop and take it enclave and insert it into the crafting table to open the perk. Obviously they can weight the more powerful perks as a rare drop. You eventually can craft your 5 out 5 but still need to grind the weapons. They could also make the visual of the weapon customizable. Having choices with changing how the weapon looks would lead to more unique looking guns in the game.

It’s not the rarity, there is still “ rare “ loot in the game. It’s that none of the truly rare loot is THAT much better or more powerful than everything else. Some of the best guns in the game are legendaries that are craftable and random rolls on world drops that have build synergy. Every raid and dungeon exotic in recent memory has been released underpowered or mid. The days of powerful Vex or Ghorn Tier weapons being random drops and especially endgame drops are over. I know it’s not balanced but that’s when and why the loot hype in Destiny died.

I miss when you could get weapons that would only roll with certain perks from certain places (black forge) It added to that Ready Player One feel of rarity and cool -blam!- that you didn’t see every single person having

Edited by Jammers: 2/14/2024 12:13:53 AMBungie needs to at the very least give new perks to the crap weapons they throw out in GM's. There still all in on the raid short buss. When very few run them compared to the rest of the game .Whoever's in charge has really got some backward thinking ,especially when how much BS we go through running the over cooked GM's the past few seasons.

4 RepliesEdited by Touch: 2/13/2024 10:17:12 PMIt would be cool, to me at least, of they did it like Borderlands. Assign gear to bosses, mini bosses, HVTs, heroic (only heroic) public events (with stupid low drop chances), strike specific stuff or maybe a rare enemy within them, etc... It would give doing that stuff some meaning, because getting basically just glimmer for most of that, ain't it chief.

Edited by jhermannITJ: 2/13/2024 11:43:39 PMI agree with this. I like the current systems... BUT Zones need love, and there needs to be healthy rotation of world drop exotics for weapons and armor. On that same token... here's where I'm at... I'm basically done this season, I wish there was a viable way to grind the new world drops but there isn't. I want the most current world drops in LS rotation. I think we can have both... but early game is bad, there's no sidebar or real social activities. Most zones have been completely neglected in the open world. Patrol is kinda lame unless it's extremely rewarding like the DC is right now... but even that gets old. Open World, early game... sidebar & social... AND a healthy world drop loot pool of exotics. Edit: And who actually buys ghost projections... shaders. I bet you it's almost no one. Put all of that in loot pools... expand customization... and put some of that in the world drop pool.

2 RepliesRare loot? is that the green engram or the blue engram?
