Ever since I changed my name to this, stupidly, I have been getting a lot of hate from random people. I won't go further into it as I've done enough of that over the years, but as the title suggests, my query is when or will unlimited name changes be available at some point. Although my issue is significant and may seem isolated, there may be other cases that are similar that we haven't heard about, though putting that aside temporarily, name changing being a one time things brings up a larger issue. A hypothetical; a man changes their name on bungie.net to GamerGuy, GamerDude, ManGamer, essentially anything insinuating gender or their personal identifying preference. Aforementioned person comes to the conclusion that they feel like someone else entirely, not GamerGuy, GamerDude, or ManGamer, or whatever they chose initially, but something other that what they chose, something else. They decide, "I wanna change my name to something that better represents me as a person". So they go the the Destiny App, or bungie.net and make their way to the name change section to change their name, though they now realise that they can't, they're trapped being identifying as something or someone that doesn't feel like them in the slightest, makes them feel like they're not themselves. People call them by this name in game and it makes them upset to hear it as it vocalises their prison, their entrapment. They have no where to go, nothing they can do. The upset, the possible trauma... what can they do? I'll leave that to your imagination. Now this is a hypothetical, I said that as the start... but is it really? Because to me, it sounds like a potential reality and if I'm honest, a very potential outcome. Bungie is a big supporter of lgbtq+ rights, human rights. Why isn't this something that's ready implemented, why wasn't character customisation something that was already implemented despite players wanting it be implemented when we made our characters way back in D1. Identity is important, isn't that what you believe? I'm not just fighting for this due to my own selfish reasons, I'm fighting for this for everyone that feels the same way I do - that your name change shouldn't be permanent, for name changes to be able to be changed whenever we want them to be. After all it's our account, our character, our style, but most importantly of all, it's our body and our life. Our identity, so allow us to decide who we are, let us decide where our journey leads us. Isn't that what Destiny is about? The journey? And where that journey takes you?
