How have they just left matchmaking this bad?

Look, I'm not here to blame people, but the state of this matchmaking is absolutely bonkers terrible. The entire crew of players that is .3KDA and under just needs to be put in a separate server. It's very clear these people are disabled, too young, or in general just bad at videogames. Why are you matching them with sweats? It makes absolutely no sense. In so many games I have to carry 3 of these people, and past 2 minutes almost certainly one player has already left the match, usually not replaced in time or with enough skill. The amount of people leaving matches is at an all time high. I've never seen it this bad. Crickets from Bungie. I swear to god they don't have more than one person working on Crucible and it boggles my mind. I have never seen so many bad Control games in my entire life. I have no idea how this dev team does not respond or do anything about these issues. This game basically needs an algorithm that is 40% kills/60% KDR. That's it. Just start matching players on these two parameters. It HAS to be better than what we have going on. This is just becoming an embarrassment of a game. There is no way any new players are staying for this horrific matchmaking.

    • The sweats are the problem. Not the people that treat the game like what it is. A GAME.

    • There is hardly anyone playing pvp. You’re getting mad at the wrong thing. It’s not the matchmaking that is the problem, it’s low player population. What causes that? A terrible sandbox that hasn’t been fixed in years, and cheaters running rampant. THOSE are the things you should be posting about

The cycle of problematic matchmaking, and its revelation to the larger public, is still in progress. I predict that as people become more aware about what is going on, the less they will tolerate the situation. The cycle goes like this: 1. People of all skills play the game and overtime, skill tiers are defined by SBMM. 2. Skill tiers break up players into rigid divisions with low skilled players being placed into protected lobbies, with outliers(above average, bread and butter, daily players) being placed as cannon fodder in high skilled lobbies. Both extreme binaries of low skilled and extremely high tier players primarily benefit from the system(and happen to be the two types of player who most commonly purchase micro transactions). 3. To maximize engagement across all player types, the tightly controlled tiers utilize predictable lobby composition to leverage a player’s win/loss thresholds to drive engagement, while flattening the experience to as close to 50% win/loss. Essentially, the game sets up wins and losses for players at different intervals by stacking a superior team against another. 4. The outliers become exhausted and tired of worse connections, longer cue times, and being on the receiving end of SBMM lobby manipulation which ultimately breaks down, and produces long stretches of losses due to the system’s difficulty with resolving win/loss flattening vs engagement metrics. These players leave in droves. 5. Low skilled players get drafted into higher skilled lobbies and essentially become the current “outlier” class of meat for the grinder of high skilled lobbies. The system then has even more difficulty resolving the aforementioned struggle between 50% win/loss and engagement, leading to even longer stretches of losses. Low skilled players previously benefiting, quit very quickly, leading to further reduced player count and the exacerbation of the aforementioned problems. This is the cadence for record low player counts for AAA games being seen across the industry. As long as the publishers make micro transaction money from even broken low skill tiers and benefiting high tiers, they don’t care… the problem comes in when the brand, and subsequently the genre itself, is continually damaged by the reputation of terrible experiences for their players, which is undeniably taking place. Unfortunately for those who actually enjoy PVP and want to play regularly in an effort to get better, the process of communities pushing back, and disengaging is very slow due to the addictive cycles that this manipulation has induced. The revelation of its existence is underway and change will come, as the entire system requires that people don’t know it’s happening to continue.

        • i know why....All hands on deck for Marathon. They moved their best people to Marathon..thinking the Destiny community would just blindly Support them and just keep spending money. Yet now because they FAFO, Consequence is kicking them in the butt so hard..Even Chuck Norris addmited ..hes not the one that did it. Now Bungie is in Deaf Con (Collapse) and are trying to figure out on how to fix a Broken Hauler Ship. I = this problem to an issue i had with my work..where there was a Ground Fault(GF is when an exposed wire is touching metal and shorting the mother board) in a building with over 400 Devices. Good F###ing Luck finding that . Their whole system is in chaos. So they are more occupied with Marathon and trying to figure out in how to get players to comeback. Matchmaking is Bottom of the barrel for them right now.

          • When playing control, don’t even bother caring about wins/losses. Just go for personal performance. Not saying you shouldn’t play the objective and try to win, but just remember win ratios mean nothing. Nobody is going to look up your stats and check your win ratio to determine if you’re good. Decent, elite and top players get screwed by matchmaking all the time. I can’t tell you how many times in 6v6 I’ve been at the top of the losing team. But does it matter? No. What matters is Trials and Comp.

Stomping all over noobs? All levity aside... High vs low skill matches happen so offen that one can naturally infer this is actually the goal of the algorithm.

                  • realistically I just wish everybody would just stop complaining and having them change things. every change they make turns into a bunch of people whining and crying about how bad it is. what's great to you is the absolute worst to someone else and vice versa. I think we'd all be better off letting Bungie handle THEIR game the way THEY see fit. Nobody forces anyone to play and now you're not even required to buy anything to play but the constant contradictory complaining from the community is probably not helping anyone (players and/or Bungie employees) have or create a fun experience.

Crucible always was only for fun. Matchmaking only change who will get fun. You always have different game mods with different matchmaking. So, stop crying.

The PVP team left to go build a new video game which is like escape from tarkov but Destiny twist, instead of replacing those employees they just left it as is since forsaken launch 4 years ago. At least that's how I think it got to this point

I think it's the symptoms of a dead multi-player. Population low so it can't properly work , that's part of the reason cod 6v6 is so sweaty. Warzone is actually casual, 6v6 is diehard sweats , except destiny is a much smaller pvp base.

                        • This has always been the problem with a 6 vs 6 game. 1-2 good or bad players greatly tip the scales. I have never taken my win lose ratio for destiny 2 pvp seriously.
