First, I just want to say that I get wishes are probably most likely a last-ditch effort by bungie to keep us busy until new content drops, but what if there is more to them?
Through the season, we've seen Crow, Petra, and Mara all talk about how they want to save their people from the Curse and they realize that the Dreaming City itself is most likely lost, but maybe the people themselves can be saved. Then we got Rivens wishes, which according to Mara seem odd and requires us to complete random tasks. She finds no ill intent or alternate motives behind them when she screen them.
So what if as a thanks for ours, Petras, and Crows hard work she designed a series of tasks which individually mean nothing, but together exploit a loop hole in Savathuns wish and free the Awoken people stuck in the wish. This could explain the random nature of the tasks as well as the wish tokens which appear to be Rivens teeth. Perhaps by completing each objective, we charge of the token by filling it with paracausal energy, and once enough are charge up, maybe it can temporarily bring back Rivens spirit so she can grant 1 final request. I mean she did offer to help Petra free her people, if she only wished it so and Rivens spirit only faded away because of the amount of power she needed to grant the 15th wish.

1 ReplyI'm pretty sure they said the Corsairs can leave, they just aren't willing to give up on the Dreaming City. Petra is stuck in the loop, as she can be seen rotating each week, but can still willingly leave. The Guardian is technically stuck as well, and I'm pretty sure lorewise they still go and kill Dul Incaru every 3 weeks.

Edited by Shockwave 989: 2/2/2024 9:52:14 AMRiven’s Lair/Coil dialogue states that the Awoken in question could be removed altogether.
Osiris: Then why remain? Why not evacuate the city and reclaim it another day? Petra Venj: Osiris… how long were you in the Infinite Forest? How many timelines did you brave in search of Saint? Osiris: I… I see what you mean. My apologies. Petra Venj: None required. We love this city. And we will fight for it until the bitter end.
It’s important to remember that the Awoken aren’t just locked into a simple time loop, they’re stuck defending against the forces of Dul Incaru. But that’s semantics, could be a nice way to tie things off but there was a rather big deal made of the fact that Riven could only grant this Last Wish, likely to beg the question why we didn’t wish the eggs returned. Edit: These are going to be exactly what we think, filler rewards. Bungie would in no way tie such a massive narrative beat to something that 100% didn’t exist until the delay.

1 ReplyThe problem with withdrawing from the Dreaming City is that given enough time (not killing Dul Incaru every curse cycle) she will eventually find the Distributary, allowing Savathun to use the warped time to get decades of tithes and power at an extremely accelerated rate The biggest tragedy of the Dreaming City's curse is that unless it can be broken in its entirety, we cant do anything for the affected
