The DCV and The Final Shape

Right...where to begin... For those who weren't there when it happened, after Season of Arrivals, Bungie removed about half of the game's content. When they did that, they made certain assurances to make it sting a little less. Y'know, it'd come back. Late. Better. Just trust me bro. Not gonna lie, Bungo, The Final Shape better be the time and place you honour that promise. If the 4 month delay is purely so you can give us Neomuna 2.0 and never bring back Titan, Io, Mars, Mercury, Tangled Shore, Red War, Forsaken, Leviathan, Scourge of the Past, etc. etc. etc., I think I'm done. Just as an FYI, I was one of those "vanishingly small minorities" of players who frequently replayed Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken Campaigns, romped around in old patrol destinations, and played the old content Bungie removed. I didn't like Tangled Shore that much, but I still had a lot of fun mindlessly running about murdering ads to death in public events, adventures, and patrols. My favourite raid, to this day, is still Eater of Worlds. I used to jump into The Whisper any chance I got because I thought the jumping puzzle was just so damn cool, and so much fun, and carries for Chasm of Screams were some of my favourite things to do. I put up with the DCV under the expectation it'd be put back into the game. Sometime. I mean, ffs, Bungie, you could've brought back Mars and Leviathan with WQ, and Titan with LF. It couldn't have been that much more work, and it would've won you a lot of goodwill. Instead you took more stuff out of the game and pissed off your community that much more. Way to go. One planet upgraded to the modern engine and just shoved back into the game because whether or not people are playing it that much is irrelevant. People paid for it. I paid for it. As far as the "we're not taking any more expansion stuff out of the game". I don't believe it. Nor should anyone else. Bungie has either reneged or failed to fulfil damn near every promise and obligation they made to the playerbase for years. At this point, if TFS doesn't bring a significant amount of content back out of the DCV, I'll wait three years and, if it's still in the game, I might buy it, on sale, for ten bucks. P.S. It took almost 4 years for Bungie to add another 600 RPM Void Auto Rifle to the game after sunsetting everything, and removing all loot sources for Gnawing Hunger. Allow that to sink in for a minute.

  • Bungie made no such promise though They did clearly state that content in the DCV could be brought back if required. Like they did with parts of titan.

    • It’s an issue that can’t really be resolved without either pulling a FFXIV or just doing destiny 3. The game was built to handle about 4 years of content max. Anymore than that and things like the servers crashing often and bugs and the game becoming a mess of spaghetti code happens. This is because D2 was meant to last to beyond light and then beyond light would be destiny 3. This was the original vision. However now the game is trying to process 7 years of content. That’s why it had to be dropped. It’s still already pushing the boundary again. We already know for an interview that while the game is allegedly continuing past final shape, there are currently no ideas for a story or how to make the game work without sun setting. The two solutions are thus. Pull a FFXIV. Shut the game down for a year. Upgrade the engine or rebuild it from the ground up, expand servers. Bring the game back. Or just make a destiny 3. We lose all our stuff. The game gets a new engine. Servers are built to handle a proper MMO’s worth of data.

    • Don't buy TFS! Wait till it is out a couple weeks before you commit, so you don't feel scammed when all the DCV stuff stays gone. Bungie is not bringing that stuff back, especially the campaign stuff.

    • If you actually still believe any of their blatant lies, i feel sorry for you. Ofc we will never see most of that content back in the game, unless they try to double dip it and sell it in their upcoming episodes back to us. Drip fed of course. And expensive. Not like we already paid full price for it or anything... MMO's usually grow. This one shrinks. And the new additions are half baked and unfun. Destiny is done for imo, no point in still hoping they do what they promised 4 years ago.

      • I can understand in the sense of wanting to keep the file size smaller/more manageable for old gen consoles which is still an ongoing issue (65 percent of psn sales are still ps4). Loading times into the tower and destinations were AWFUL prior to the major vaulting And it’s no small coincidence that when they stopped vaulting with the 30th anniversary to appease players of your mindset, that the loading time and general performance of the game went back to being terriblez. Bungo like many publishers was caught flat footed by the delays in next gen production and adoption. In an ideal world they would have cut off destiny 2 at season of arrivals and released beyond light/wq/legends as destiny 3 for new gen/high performance pc only Crying to bring the old stuff back creates as many problems as it did removing it

        • I agree 100% with you. There are many things Bungie implemented over the years, that have increasingly pissed me off. But the one that upsets me the most is the content I paid hundreds of dollars for, that is all gone and no longer accessible. If you are 'lucky' they will re-sell it and recycle for a price later on. Things that you already paid for, mind you. From my personal viewpoint, this is close to what I would call a scam. I understand the 'license agreement', and the 'read the fine print' justifications. But you know what? They have always been used everywhere to screw customers. At the end of the day, if they offer a product that I no longer like or value for the price asked, I stop buying it. How about that? Then they can take all their 'fine print' and whatnot and.... (well you can guess the rest of the sentence).

        • They needed to do the work to make content modular, but I guess using the stuff we paid for as a scrapyard to harvest maps for disposable content is fine too.

This could have been avoided, but this developer chose the easy way out and the people who paid for that content got the bad end of the deal. Despite the license agreement that is used way too much on this forum to give this developer a free pass, it's just not right how they went about it. There is no developer that I know of since Atari that has ever removed anywhere near as much content from a game as this developer did, and they didn't even bother to look for a solution that would have worked for everyone nor even attempted to compensate the player base. There are a few solutions that could have taken place and one of them was designing the third installment as planned and this post wouldn't have ever existed.

        • Keep that old stuff in the DCV, the games already at 140gb, I’d rather not have to download 200+gb just so 7 people can patrol mars

        • Really Bungie should stop Gate keeping and make Year 1 content, without the Seasonal stuff a separate download for us. As an Animator, I know they have to remake the content they removed, but technically they should have set it up where they could return to it. I really hope we get a Digital game or Destiny 2 Collections disc of Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind because I never got to play them. Friends bought me Beyond Light Deluxe Edition and even Forsaken felt gutted. I couldn't get all the weapons for the Badges and no matter how hard I grinded I couldn't get the Svatterhorn Armor set. Thankfully I am currently playing Dares of Eternity for it now.

I loved mercury. As my name sake being that close to the sun on the desolate sands was just an awesome feeling. But as Bungie does as of late (destiny) it's to do minimal effort to keep costs low. Rather than go balls to wall and make bank. To not think such a love child, a break of the mold of fps, could rack up more than enough profit to compensate for all the leaps of faith they could take with the game is just a shame. A damn shame I do love your name tho lol

          • I began playing in Arrivals, thank heavens I played red war and warmind when i did because before i had a chance to figure out what was staying or leaving the osiris campaign went away. Sad. I feel SO bad for those poor new players the past few years who have no idea what is going on because they cant understand the characters or storys referenced. Had a guy ask me a while back who Cayde was. I couldnt answer because theres no way for them to care about him as he isnt in the game.

          • Right there with you, loved going to Io for the scenery and doing bounties or public events whenever I needed those done, Asher Mir was the best NPC/Vendor, and loved both Strikes on the planet. It's terrible that we were too few in number to keep it around, it even was the first place an exotic dropped for me so I considered it lucky too. Played as much of that location and missions as I could before it got vaulted. Even if its a condensed version, I would love to have it back, but from the look of it we probably never will or it will be given the Mars/Titan treatment which is a shame.
