Crucible matchmaking is different and worse

I know what everyone is going to say - "population is down" - "matchmaking is always bad" - no, this is different. Something is going on. Very good players are getting matched with very bad players, and of course lobby balancing feels random AT BEST. Just had a match where the efficiencies of one team ranged from 1.7 to 12.5 and the other ranged from .4 to .9. It was a pointless match. Nobody learned anything, the outcome was a foregone conclusion before it even began. What's going on?

  • Fully. It’s swinging from mercy to mercy like every other match. I think I’m an average (and old) player and pvp is just not fun. 6v6 is laggy and 75% of the players are on different platforms. (I play on Xbox). D2 is dying a slow death here.

    • With the new Lobby Balancing, SBMM lobbies barely work, CBMM are the new SBMM Lobbies now. From one of the TWIDs, Bungie posted the Lobby Balancing as a way to mix up skill levels on both teams instead of putting them in one team of skill in one team and same for the other except the latter is exactly the sort of Matchmaking we got now which makes Crucible unbearable right now.

    • For sure that was SBMM. Cause that's what stomp players are gonna tell you in order to sell more CBMM. Next urban legend constantly being told. All was better with CBMM.

      • I quit playing Trials for the week but normal crucible is like 6v6 Trials at the moment. Maybe I should just stop playing crucible at all. Players I fight it feels like they don’t miss any head shot. They pre fire coming around corners and doing damage to you before you can hit them while they don’t exactly know where you are yet. You die in like 0.5 seconds… while it feels like you almost have to empty half a clip before they die. And on a roaming super you just die so fast from 1 player while if they spawn their supers they are barely dying. Yesterday I played an impossible game. I main a hunter and played a team of titans and warlocks… barricades, overshields and rifts all the time. It was just impossible.

        The player base is dying all that's left are the people really dedicated to the game. So it seems harder.

      • Could not agree more. Last few times I logged on consistently coming up against stacked teams comprised of guys at rank 11 and 1825+ our team a bunch of randoms with very low experience. In one game cam up against a guy rank 11, level 1831 who ended up with score effectiveness of 25. I am not saying he was cheating he was just very good. I am not sure where this takes us, but where is the fun in this.

        • Matchmaking this season is a piss bowl, worst season ever; Bungie have definitely tweaked matchmaking and not for the better. Forget this game if PvP is all you do, Bungie will get the message loud and clear than any post in these forums.

          • The D2 matchmaking rules are as follows: Twelve players are picked at random. The six best are put in one team. The other six are put into the other team. That’s it. If the skill levels of all 12 players are close then it’s a close match. If the skill range is wide it’s a mercy.

            • This is a really niche reference I’m about to make, but in the show The Good Place, the committee that runs the Good Place is just how I imagine this “pvp strike team.” Unable to get anything done because they are so focused on making everyone in the committee feel happy rather than focusing on efficiency of the task. Sorry if you don’t understand, I promise it makes sense.

              • It’s still sbmm. They say it has “loose” parameters but it doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

              • I’ve been noticing this as well. Ur not alone. In all the matches I lost recently, there’s always people who are decent/average at the game on the enemy team. Meanwhile for my team, I’m stuck with people who are GR 4-5, are using low stat armor, builds that don’t make sense, etc. Just last weekend in Comp, I had a teammate who was GR 3-4, had little to no mods, and was using Monto Carlo as his main weapon of choice. My other teammate was more decent, but was GR 5 and had low Light gear and weapons. The enemy team? Glorious/Flawless titles (glided and non-glided) all around. It was pretty much set in stone with what happened next in the game. 😑 If Bungie wants people to engage with ANY Competitive mode (including Trials), then they [b]HAVE[/b] to not just look at balancing solos/duos against 3 stacks but also to lobby balance the room. Its not fair for average/good players to get paired with people who don’t know how to build/shoot a gun while the enemy team has people who DO know and are your skill level or better. If Bungie [i]wants[/i] people to carry low skill players in mid/high tier lobbies, then spilt up the bad players on BOTH sides. That way, the game isn’t as set in stone and both sides have equal chances for “hero moments” and good plays against each other. Shaxx claims on the mode’s flavor text that you’re supposed to “seek improvement with your peers”. If he only means with the enemy team and NOT your own teammates, then what’s the point of the mode? 🤷🏿‍♂️

                Played 15 games of trials yesterday. The other teams were favored to win in 10 of them. Some were above 90% chance. It is very frustrating to know the outcome BEFORE the game even starts.

                • Bungie are simply not interested in destiny pvp now. Bungie got rid of the security team and whoever is left is maintaining pvp . Bungie are all out for FS ….I hope and then their other focus is Marathon. Wasn’t going to last forever and still enough people to keep it going . It is what it is ….totally .

                  I feel like I could watch the TV and randomly mash buttons with the controller in my hand and get about the same amount of engaging feedback. I feel like I'm watching powerball on repeat. And my numbers never come up.

                    Last match i had was 100% rigged on MidTown. 5 man, not a static, but of blueberries, and the rest were solos with various titles with higher skill. Guess who got put in the 5 man of blueberries…hmmm…me of course because bungie says “Hey you’re somewhat decent, now carry them” Obviously we lost, and oh look, 3 of them didn’t even break past a 0.5KdA that match 😂 Crazy! How a match later bungie gives me a “solid” game where we actually do well and win. Also crazy how it says “CBMM” but that match we faced people who clearly are not from CBMM

                    • I’m on Xbox and have never suspected one of my opponents was using hacks/Xim until this week’s trials where I was getting hit by opponents I couldn’t see with pinpoint aim. Something fishy is definitely afoot.

                      • Geee you would think discussions like this would be an opportunity for the great new crucible strike team to interact with players to discuss if any changes were indeed made to matchmaking, what the goals of those changes were and if they were achieving the goals..... That would be if such things actually existed and if the developer actually cared about this game past its ability to feed them revenue to build two other games they hope make this one obsolete.

                        • Experienced this all round but really ticks me off in trials. Trials is a whole other story but might as well seeing we are here. Why am I queuing into trials games with either no wins or maybe 1 and then getting put up against absolute sweats that are trying for the lighthouse. Has literally happened 3 times this weekend where I have either 1 win or none (solo queuing btw) and then I lose to a team only to see the chat say that entire team has gained passage to the lighthouse. Bungie fix your game. This is why the community gives so much hate lol.
