What If......A Crucible Theory

What if Bungie removed classes from PvP altogether, giving everyone that plays a generic character with a choice of preset loadouts, including weapons and abilities, with a set number of stat points to be distributed as each player sees fit? Would that eliminate the constant outcry for nerfs and bring some semblance of "balance" (which is impossible anyway since players have differing skill levels, but let's pretend) to PvP?

  • So Overwatch. Why would we want to play Overwatch in Destiny?

        • It seems like the pvp population basically wants HALO or CoD. No abilities, only guns. However they’re not playing Halo or CoD. So as a result they just complain and demand nerfs

            • Not a bad idea but i think i would like something more similar to the black ops 2 create a class with the pick 10 system. This would have to be a standalone game as it wouldn't make sense in Destiny 2 but could take part in the same universe. The create a class system would be based on a point cap and each weapon/ability is worth different points. Lets say you want to use the thorn for example this would cost more points than a normal 140 so you may have to make a sacrifice. It would take a long time to balance everything out but im sure bungie could figure it out where they could keep all the casual pvpers and get more dedicated broader fps players into their game.

            • What a sad, boring game that would be... Balance with variety leads to fun. You are making things balanced, but as a result, you are removing variety and reducing fun. Everything can be "improved" because everything is subjective. That's why you'll never ever stop people from asking for nerfs or buffs

                • Halo infinite and cod are way more balanced than d2 but every few months basically half the weapons get massive nerf/buffs and even nerf and buff reverts. And keeping abilities means the game ends up like a hero shooter even if you remove the classes resulting in a still unbalanced gameplay. No game is balanced not even a kids game is balanced like mario kart is one of the most unbalanced games ever.

                  • Thats takes everything that makes D2 Unique and now makes it a very subpar arena shooter with no actual servers.

They refuse to belive its a them issue...it's because everyone is using over powered weapons. This is what happens when non gamers get involved.

I’m not sure that would draw more players imo. I believe if Bungie implemented crucible modifiers such the ability to toggle off supers or have supers but be able to toggle off abilities or both. Some of us enjoy straight up duals as opposed to super/ability -blam!-

                        • You know what the REAL problem with Destiny PvP is? People want so bad for it to be CoD, or even Apex Legends, when it's much much closer to something like a Souls game where, the people who spend the time to grind and research/know how to make a build, are going to do much better than those of us who play for a gun or armor set once or twice a year. I get the most fair and balanced matches anywhere in Ranked CoD, and anyone who wants fairness and balance can do the same. Instead, people think Bungie should cater to them for whatever reason of the day is. I can even take a year off CoD and still come back to the same game I've known for almost 15 years. That's the problem. Destiny can't be balanced without making it "not Destiny".

                        • Would not work because this game is a haven for people who cannot compete in a real PvP game. They need to crutch on broken abilities and OP weapons while complaining that the broken abilities and OP weapons they do not like using need to be nerfed. Meanwhile the PvE crowd just wants PvP to be removed so PvE does not keep suffering unnecessary nerfs.

                          • I personally don’t get why people want less gameplay in pvp. The primary weapons only gameplay that people are pushing just sounds boring. Yeah ability uptime and special weapons one shotting are annoying but they imo are part of the fun. Reducing the game to primary weapons and movement skill only will get so stale so fast (remember d2 launch). I enjoy variety and build crafting in games. Preset classes and minimal gameplay just get stale for me. Just my two cents on the matter.

                            • So much of what makes PvP interesting is perfecting your loadouts. Weapon rolls, armor stats, builds, etc are where the fun is really at. Take those away and you lose 80% of the PvP experience.

                              • It wouldn’t work. Destiny basically works on the mentality of getting the maximum amount of replay-ability out of the least amount of content. A lot of that replay-ability comes from grinding for god rolls. But the trouble is in PVE most players aren’t taxed enough to notice the difference between a good roll and a god roll. For example barrel and/or mag perks for the most part don’t matter. So you might settle for a gun that only has 2 out of 4 god roll perks. But jump into PVP and you want to be maximising everything on your weapons so you want to be getting the best barrel perks because not only will that give you your optimal TTK at maximum ranges but it will also push you aim assist further out making it easier to hit those crit shots. So if you suddenly stopped letting people use those guns they grinded for in the crucible a lot would stop grinding for future weapons and suddenly the replay-ability just isn’t there and people start complaining about lack of content.
