Why does everyone hate them? Did I miss something in the story? I know they’re gay, but is there another reason they’re getting so much hate?
Why does everyone hate them? Did I miss something in the story? I know they’re gay, but is there another reason they’re getting so much hate?
The relationship never bothered me, but I read the lore and count that as much as in-game. As a member of the community and growing up around older male couples - a lot of it is more based on companionship rather than intimacy. And conversation is it's own form of intimacy. The way I saw it was Saint is someone who can get through to Osiris, and back him down. Osiris even makes mention of this during light fall. Saint is his rock to keep him from losing himself in his pursuit of knowledge. I've also never seen Saint as dumb. Humorous, but not stupid. Thick Russian accent, and speaks like English like a second language. I actually thought he was wise, given dialogue from season of the deep. He has a sense of deep insight for everything he's been through and tries to help others based on his own experiences. Just my take on things. Came into the game late, so any anger about a forced relationship as per Bungie announcement - that i wouldn't know about.

In game it always portrayed Saint-14 and Osiris as friends or perhaps like brothers, or perhaps like family in the sense of the brotherhood one gets from being in the military, in this case being part of the previous Vanguard. This is how I see it as thats how it had been portraying them for quite some time. Previous portrayals had zero indication up until Season of the Splicer end trailer, when Bungie announces the relationship. There never was anything previous about Saint and Osiris bonding or getting closer to each other, or any kind of buildup to anything being a relationship, all of the sudden Bungie announces oh hey these two are a couple now, thats how it is now. Its not about the why, its about the how, Bungie did awful storytelling and doesn't like to build up into relationships for characters, its like boom, here you go, we forgot to be creative again or to tell a story.

Wasted potential. Bungie put more effort into fleshing out their relationship and not them themselves. Naturally some people have a more negative take but the flip side is the people who care more about their status then the characters themselves. So Bungie wanting to message polarized the players opinions.

For me it goes slightly deeper then just hate for these 2 in particular. It's the fact that the game never shows me anything interesting about these characters. You need to go look for videos or wiki pages on the characters and what their background is. What their achievements are. And then in game they're basically vendors or have cringe dialogue. Or both.

Likely the same issue with the majority of the game’s characters. Poor dialogue.

3 RepliesJust bad writing. Though there are also a lot of people still upset they're in a relationship. Saint-14 was a legendary Titan but Bungie no longer want to portray Titan's as the wall of the city instead they now try to portray Titan's as dumb apes who can only run straight which includes Saint-14 Same with Osiris legendary Warlock yet he's not shown why he has that title aside from honestly maybe this season.

I have no issue with them but they are two characters that existed in lore as legendary guardians for a long time before mostly becoming boring NPCs like everyone else. People also took issue with the fact that older lore implies that their relationship was that of brothers not lovers.
