I noticed a significant up-tick in the frequency at which I started getting disconnected from the game at the launch of Season of the Deep. Particularly noticeable due to the advent of activities which give you mounting buffs, since these are taken from you (along with all of your ammo) when you are kicked, even if you do get the ability to rejoin.
These disconnections are frequent, sometimes multiple times per hour. It makes the game unplayable. Nothing else experiences disruptions. If I have a YouTube video playing, it doesn't rebuffer. If I have another streaming site open, there aren't any hitches. If I am in a Discord call, there is no disruption. It's just Destiny. There is seemingly no obvious correspondence to peak internet traffic times or off-peak times.
I started running a continuous pingtest in powershell. This is the command:
ping.exe -t 8.8.8.8|Foreach{"{0} - {1}" -f (Get-Date),$_} >> E:\Downloads\pingresults.txt
To ping one of Google's DNS servers once a second every second until I interrupt it, and record it to a file. I run this for hours, across days, including when I'm playing Destiny. While it does occasionally show a missed packet or two (out of tens of thousands per day), they never coincide with times I am disconnected from the game. So I'm not seeing any kind of hitch in my internet access, or access to anything, just Destiny. I do not get disconnected from any other online games. Just Destiny.
I have my ports (UDP 3074 and 3097) forwarded to the PC I play Destiny on. That PC has the same static IP it has had since I started playing Destiny on PC back when Shadowkeep launched on Steam.
It's impossible to make meaningful progress on anything when I never know if I'll be able to complete an activity. It was a huge part of why I stopped playing last season and if it keeps up I just can't keep trying to invest any time in Destiny because it's driving me insane. I have seen other people report the same issue but the threads never have any attention. It seems like something changed with network detection c. Season of the Deep that is rigorously booting people under certain fringe conditions and I don't know how to help Bungie identify the cause but I don't see how I can keep playing anymore until it's fixed.

I stopped playing entirely shortly after I made this post. I have picked up again with some friends with the release of Final Shape, and unfortunately this issue is still plaguing me. I can go maybe 30 minutes or so before I'm essentially guaranteed to either be Anteater'd and lose all my ammo, or Weasel'd and be kicked to title. Same behavior as before - no detected lost packets, I can still see everyone moving and shooting in real time right up until the moment of disconnect (no one is running in to walls, triggers and enemy behavior are still normal). We have also confirmed this doesn't appear to happen with any other PCs on the network. I've tried turning off port forwarding and static IP wondering if somehow that was causing issues despite supposedly being the fix for any and all network problems. I'm sorry to report it has made no difference whatsoever. I would like some guidance from Bungie, if possible - what diagnostics can I possibly run, what info can I possibly give you to help diagnose this, because being kicked randomly from raids, dungeons, and nightfalls is really grating on my ability to do any high level content with my clan. I feel like I'm just weighing them down because we can never expect I'll make it through the whole thing or I'll randomly get all my special and heavy deleted and severely hamper the group.

1 ReplyEdited by Dessart: 12/27/2023 10:40:02 PMVery similar behavior on my end. Around 3 weeks ago or so, I've been getting WEASEL, ANTEATER or BIRD errors seemingly out of nowhere. Sometimes the "Contacting Destiny 2 servers" message pops up before even selecting a character which might lead to a disconnection; sometimes there are no issues at all. Aside of that time when the DDOS attacks were happening, the game has been rock solid for me so this situation really sticks out. Also like you, I've been watching streams while I play or talking on Discord with clan mates while doing an activity and none of them display any sign of the connection dropping. Everything seems stable except Destiny. I've gone back and forth with the Steam beta just in case they updated the Steam Networking Sockets in a way that interferes with D2 (since the game is using them), but the behavior continues no matter what. I was reminded of this since that WEASEL apocalypse that happened years ago was a result of a single faulty server that was extremely hard to track down. I wish I could pinpoint to something that might help to diagnose this issue but it pops up very randomly, but hopefully some Bungie folks can take a look at this. If I discover anything useful, I'll update this post. Thanks you!
