Anyone complaining about checkmate are players that crutch on specials and other one shots to get kills. Checkmate has singlehandedly fixed pvp, thats just a fact. Special ammo was a huge problem in the past, guess what? Checkmate fixed that and still managed to keep the power fantasy of specials. Now specials are used under “special” conditions, not primaries. Ability spam was a huge issue in the past and whoa look at that, checkmate fixed the problem. No more ability spam so players have to either build into it or use it wisely. This also fixed the bubble issue in trials which was out of hand, now you will be lucky to even get 1 ult in trials. I left this game a while back because the balance of the game was out of control. One shots were literally happening left and right, up and down and over and under. I started playing checkmate and its brought me back, I love checkmate and its hilarious how bad people are at using primaries in this game.
Before anyone says to go play cod, no just stop. One shots are not fun, cheesy ability spam is not fun and mindlessly running around like an ape with a shotgun is not fun. It’s also not fun being forced to use specials if you wanted to even have a fighting chance vs other players. Checkmate takes actual skill to do well which is awesome. Positioning, aim and game sense finally matters again and I’m destroying lobbies all on my own without having to crutch on specials, hand cannons or pulse rifles. Bows are finally viable, scouts are finally viable, auto rifles, side arms etc. I haven’t seen such variety in weapon choices in a very long time and I just love to see it. I hope that checkmate becomes the core experience in pvp and I hope bungie sticks to this new balance philosophy because it’s the best mode I’ve played in years. Checkmate also makes sbmm bearable so thats also a plus

1 ReplyGo play cod…. Destiny has one redeeming feature and that is fun space magic… without it it’s just an aim assist heavy dull shooting game

1 ReplyI don’t think you understand the difference between a fact and an opinion…

9 RepliesPosts like these are always great, because they all boil down to "If you don't agree with me you're a bad player" and at that point you auto won the argument. Nobody can disagree with you and have their opinions matter because they're a bad player anyway.

1 ReplySkill and Destiny 2 in the same sentence lol

9 RepliesThank goodness you deem my playstyle not fun. This means I disrupt your mental and your performance will drop so my conditional can kill you even easier.

3 RepliesI’m not against having a Checkmate mode, but there are lots of powerful primaries in regular Crucible. To me, the weapon sandbox feels really good, in terms of viable options. Personally, I’d like a checkmate mode that just slowed ability/super recharge. So that’s something else thrown into the mix. I know Bungie sometimes makes strange decisions, but I imagine it’s a real challenge to plot a path with all the different preferences players have.

1 ReplyI’m having so much fun, it’s nice seeing how bad others are because they have to use the Primary slot. Easiest weekend of my life

1 ReplyEdited by A_mo: 12/25/2023 1:04:30 AMThe bows might be a little more than viable, but the modifier definitely isn't bad. Its the kind of change this game needs to have instead of having even more abilities and supers. Also, I always thought the ohk and quick deaths from abilities made the game more like COD and not less in terms of how fast people die in that game. Doubt the majority is going to want it as the core experience but it definitely has a place. More actual PvP can get played when special isn't primary and abilities aren't constant. Some people have just gotten used to relying on something extremely powerful to guide them to victory. And community sentiment is a complicated subject when any new modes come out lately.

7 RepliesIs this satire? Half of the things you said are just objectively wrong but, ignoring that this game will drop off a cliff if checkmate was made the standard
