Buff Scout rifles

Hand canons are a joke. Igneous, Ace, Crimson and others outgun scout rifles from well over 30m. If nothing can be down to reign in ease of use and bullet magnetism, etc... Then scout rifles should have the same bullet magnetism. You dont even have to aim at the head with hand canons. Just aim at a player, and it's a crit. You can't do that with scouts, pulses, or autos. Argue all you want, but I can't find one streamer who doesn't run anything else besides hand cannon/shotty or hc/bow for trials. If you did, unless you're a God, you'd lose against a team running hc/shotty or bow. Scout rifles should be king at range. Instead, they're kinda a joke.

  • 30m is mid range along with auto rifles and of course fusion rifles that can one shot from mid range. Scouts are meant to be used 40+m away. That is where hand cannon damage drops off anyway

    • 30 meters isn’t far, smg operate in 20 meter range. Handcannons are between 30-40 depending on range. You don’t want these changes to scouts. If they did buff scouts how you are asking. The only thing that is going to change, is you are going to get dumpstered by the same people but they will be using a scout. The issue isn’t the weapon balance. It’s your inability to use handcannons. If you could effectively use them you wouldn’t be here crying that they are broken.

    • Some scouts are usable even now. They are not the meta, but with an effort, one can have success with them, as one can have with almost any weapon in this game. I enjoy using a certain scout, but I do not want that scouts become the meta. Destiny is at its best when players move fast and shoot on the fly, not when they are camping at the back of the map in a rift.

    • Bungie intentionally keeping scouts as weak as they are just so they don’t have to design content around people using them

      • At their intended range, and even a bit closer than that, they are very good and work as intended. Their downfall is that their optics, aim assist and range are all tuned in a way that makes them get worse when the target is closer to you. No matter what the meta has been, it has almost always favoured the close-mid range engagement, no further out than 40m. Most Scout Rifles don't even suffer damage drop-off when firing from the hip at 40m, with ADS ranges usually sitting around 80m. Lines of sight where you can see a target 40-80m away, without an abundance of cover in between, are scarce. Factor in the usage of movement abilities during combat, which can complement other weapons but would be disorienting for a Scout Rifle, and it becomes clear why they are not so popular. I get the logic that Bungie don't want to make the game slow and safe, but there is definitely also some influence from the Hand Cannon crowd who can't stomach the idea of any other weapon being good and/or having more range than their favourite gun. There is still a hatred for DMT among some because it had everything a normal Scout would, but with the versatility of being usable close-up.

      • Bungie is afraid that by buffing scouts - or any long range weapon - the game will become to slow. It's gonna be camping and holding lanes. That's actually what Checkmate was about when they effectively nerfed pulses & scouts, while keeping HCs strong, since you are more mobile while playing with them. That was also the case with IB Tribute, since power positions in that mode changed constantly, and you had to move around to get those motes.

      • I use scout rifles a lot, mostly the 200rpm lightweight. In the standard sandbox, they are usable so long as you have an exit path and are ready to use it if you cant hit the 4 crit kill, because very few are running under 6 resilience these days so 3 crit 1 body doesnt work. Kill clip will take it down to 3 crit, but there is only one LW scout that I know which has it (Eternal Blazon). In checkmate, those LW scouts just dont work. You just cannot use them. It takes the 4 crit to 5 crit, and if you miss crits, you need to land 6 or 7. 180 scouts are in a better place for checkmate, they stay at 4 shots, but you lose the LW mobility. 150 also need 4 shots in CM, so not a great option. There is considerably lower AA on scouts especially at closer ranges. You need to be in the range sweet spot, or have very good accuracy for them to work well. Typically 40-60m is where they can compete, but good luck finding those ranges on most of the maps that we have outside of 2-3... Range stat helps a LOT with registration. As does AA. So, in order to use a scout effectively, you need to boost the AA and range. But not sacrifice stability much because thats the anti flinch, and flinch hits them hard. Target mods on the helmet should be double or tripled up on to gain upto 10 AA, as well as a targeting adjuster mod on the weapon giving you a max of 15 AA. That 15 AA goes a long way, and can make up some of the snap to aim down sight that you lose in handling by going for range on the weapon. The difference in 15-20 range stat on the scout doesnt really change the performance in range damage dropoff, but it changes the bullet magnetism and how the AA works at different ranges. Scouts are not forgiving, you need to be precise and have good movement to make the best use of them. In a sense, you need to be faster moving than your team to setup for the long sightlines. At least that is how I play with a scout, because you want to be at ranges that are too far for most other weapons and only really challenged by bows and snipers. If you are dueling at 30-40m, that is still within the effective range of many pulses and 120 HC, and you need to have your exit strategy in mind. They will flinch you harder than you flinch them, unless you have explosive payload, but even that isnt enough to stand toe to toe and duel unless you have an advantageous position.

        • You're playing too close to your opponents, play from the outside in. Find the lanes, kill then find new lanes. I'm fairly decent with a scout, I have 1600 kills with the Jade, 700 with MIDA and close to 600 with the DMT--I'm sure there are people out there with more, but I do enjoy using them.

When scout rifles are strong, everything else is weak. I never want to see a scout rifle meta again.
