Ok, let's talk about mobility, the description is basically a status that increases your movement speed and the height of your jumps, ok, that's not cool.
Among the 3 status linked to class skills we have Resilience which reduces the amount of damage we take up to a maximum of 30%, we have Recovery which improves the speed at which we recover our lives, both statuses work much better within the game than mobility.
But let's dissect this, resilience today is something in PvE and also in PvP something fundamental, and it works well, we have some nerfs in sight but the system works, it has a function and it is well executed, recovery already has some problems, you you can replace it with Devour, Restoration or Better Already, a leg mod, and there could even be a small buff there (yes, I know that in PvP it's something very strong, but we're trying to talk about PvE ok?), but it works, it has its uses and its mechanics in the game work.
But, mobility no, mobility basically does not have a real function within the game today, whether due to exotic armor, special movements, or Strand, mobility today does not have a concrete and active mechanic in the game, it is not just replaceable, it can simply be left aside.
And this is not harmful just to Hunters (yes, i know, a lot of people will say that this is Main Hunter's cry), its harmful to all characters since a game status is not functional, that's all. The additional "speed" or additional jump "size" doesn't affect basically anything in the game today.
And the most interesting part is not seeing anything about it, this issue is not mentioned, it seems that everything is well balanced, Resilience gives you 30% damage reduction and you can stay in combat longer, Recovery makes your health return at the speed of Light makes you return to combat faster, and Mobility makes you jump higher, all completely balanced as Thanos would say.
What is the solution? I don't know, I don't have ideas for it that won't break the game, like a passive dodge, or an increase in critical damage, I don't know, but this problem exists and nothing is being said about it, there's nothing on the horizon to respect, nothing.
So, perhaps by bringing this topic up for debate, someone will think of something.

Make it increase the recovery and cast times for Class abilities by milliseconds At 100 Mob, a Titan should cast its towering Barricade .2 secs faster Believe it or not that actually is a huge buff, same for all other classes Or make it increase various animations by milliseconds, like allowing you to melee faster or increasing the recovery speed of the throwing nades animation

My thoughts are… it’s complicated. Mobility is definitely the worst stat out of the three non-ability stats. Strafe, walk speed, and jump height, while it can be quite influential, are simply nothing compared to just tanking more damage or recovering health faster. I also don’t think just letting it increase sprint speed would be very healthy for the game personally as there’s already been a huge movement power creep over the years that has thrown all of Crucible balance out of whack (this is why SMGs and shotguns are so powerful regardless how much they nerf them). And also it still wouldn’t be on par with Recov or Res. There’s also the fact that currently mobility actively penalizes Warlocks and Titans by making their skate slower: a buff to mobility is disproportionately a buff to Hunters, which are already quite strong in the PvP sandbox (Bubble and Well excluded). So… what do we do about Mobility. First off, I’m going to be 100% and say I’m totally fine leaving it in its current mediocrity. I think mobility is overrated on Hunters (your dodge cooldown is already short even without high mobility) and severely doubt there is any thematic way they can make it just as good as recovery and resilience. It’s just not that kinda stat. But besides that maybe it can improve how your weapons perform out of sprint, or give AE or hip-fire benefits. Perhaps it can slightly reduce projectile tracking or the accuracy of PvE enemies against you. I think something like these ideas can add value to the stat so Hunters don’t feel left out of having a good stat: likely I’d pick one PvE focused change and one PvP focused change. I’m personally a fan of AE benefits and reducing the accuracy of PvE combatants as an idea specifically, but I think there’s room to mix and match. An easy fix would be to make the mobility stat mod 2 energy instead of 3 to better reflect its value in the current sandbox and allow Hunters to at least potentially get more out of their armor to compensate.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 12/15/2023 9:06:29 AMA good way to solve the mobility issue with out buffing it to provide an effect would be adding powerful friends back to the game with the option to apply the mod to any slot(restricting to helm, gauntlets, chest would make it practically un-usable) OR hunters inherently get +20 to the mobility stat.

1 ReplyYeah the buff to movement speed is a blatant lie. My Hunter has max mobility but I consistently watch titans and locks with mobility in the teens run right past me. Makes no sense...

2 RepliesEdited by Wes: 12/16/2023 6:22:17 AMYou forgot a bit: Titans and Warlocks are faster with low mobility than high mobility. And not just faster, but faster than Hunters. That's an issue. It's literally a dead stat on 2 of the 3 classes, PvE or PvP, and they get to be the fastest with it being dead. And in PvP, those two classes are also the best at locking down zones. And then people are shocked that void Titan and solar Warlock are still up top... And in PvE it isn't much better. Heck. The most meta way to play Gunslinger in the endgame is to be a wannabe Warlock. Max resilience, max recovery, healing grenade. Forget the Hunter fantasy (gunpowder gamble, Hunter grenades, etc.) entirely and try and be a worse version of solar Warlock. Mobility needs to do SOMETHING. It just simply is not cutting it.

Maybe it's the game tweaks that's been a issue because I'd say buff mobility, recovery and resilience

3 RepliesI do love how higher movement speed doesn’t even make you sprint faster 😂
-
Just make each stat of mobility 10, 20, 30, etc. increase your sprint speed by your current stat, drastically increase player speed. 100% mobility, Dunemarchers, Amplified=The Flash

"Lets address a problem by talking about one half of the game" is a very smart way to go about it. Bravo. 12/10. No notes.

Let's make this real simple. Anything beyond a basic strike should require you to have maximum numbers in all three class stats. Not too overwhelm the content, just to barely survive as the game non-stop spawns enemies and turrets and snipers everywhere at all angles so that your screen never stops shaking and flashing. After all, we don't want you to be able to put in the work to develop characters with better stats than the content. And once that's ruined the game as much as possible let's introduce a new champion type called "Synergy Champions" who have all the various champion powers and how well they use them are tied to how high your corresponding stats are. So your mobility will empower their Overload aspect, your resilience will empower their unstoppable aspect, and your recovery will empower their shield aspect. And all three aspects are active and working together at the same time. Of course once that's been in play for a while we'll need to move the goalposts again. Well put in very low stat armors with a perk called Sync Disruption. Only wearing this very low stat armor with this perk can bring down the capabilities of the Synergy Champions to manageable levels. Players will be so happy to be rid of synergy champion bullshit they'll barely notice that regular adds are whipping their asses in their low stat armor. And also the low stat anti synergy armor was reissued by taking the worst trash armors from Forsaken and doing something to their textures that makes all the best shaders look very strange and frequently slow poor colors that aren't visible in the shader icon.

Mobility should be changed to 'Agility' and effect Sprint, Jump launch speed, Weapon Handling/Reload/Swap (one or multiple), and maybe melee speed. Since I wrote this Bungie will definitely not do it, but that would make the stat have some effects you can feel. I'd argue that 100mob Sprint does make a difference in PvP, tho.

7 RepliesIMO, this what I would do. 1. Change the name of it from Mobility to Dexterity. I think, especially for newer players, it can be hard to understand what it does. 2. Dexterity then would: stay as Hunters class ability for dodge. 3. Can still help walking, jumping distance/ height, and blink. 4. Then make it effect: weapon reload speed, or swapping speed. 5. Have it improve melee distance and accuracy- especially ranged ones. 6. Maybe it would affect Airborne Effectiveness as well. Mobile right now is only really good for Hunters to build into, as it’s their class ability. Titan and Warlock don’t have to put many points into it. If it was changed to effect other areas, it would bring into a larger impact and have players make harder build crafting choices. Alternatively, I think each class should have a baseline stat in their class ability. Say +30 for your class stats. That way with some decent armor and only a few mods, you could have your class ability fairly high. Leaving a little more room for building into other areas with mods.

Edited by John Marston: 12/15/2023 9:59:28 AMi'd do what others have suggested, change it to dexterity and have it improve reload and handling one thing i would change though is have the tier 10 mobility be the base movement speed cause going from my hunter to my warlock is really quite jarring the difference
-
7 RepliesIf they buffed mobility it would probably end up broken. So instead of changing what it does, how about just what it costs or simply bring back the old powerful friends?
-
Make it Dexterity and give 2 global handling per tier of mobility as well as 2 global reload per tier of mobility F pvp and we are good
-
I agree to an extent. It's really only useless for anything outside of jumping puzzles. I would in fact change it to Dexterity, keep its current functionality, and grant increased weapon haste. This includes Airborne Effectiveness, Reload Speed, Handling, and for Hunters, both class ability cooldown, and dodge speed. This would also affect certain movement abilities for all 3 classes. Icarus Dash, Titan Arc Thruster, even (considering) Thundercrash's flight speed. I'd find where it balances between the three classes, being important for all, but not destroying the game for those who choose not to use it, as I'm sure some of this would do INITIALLY. I would also be fine just having it also affect sprint speed.

Extend slide distance with tier 10 being close to what movements exotics like dunemarchers and stompees give.

Yeah agree, I think resilience should be a class characteristic for all classes , and another stats u take what u want 🫰🏻🙃
