This isn't a hate post. I'm betting you expected that based on the title, but try to stay with me. A brief story: I lost one of my best friends (and a fellow Guardian, a Hunter main) last Friday morning. He passed peacefully, after a short but grueling battle with a very aggressive cancer. His family and I did our best to make sure he was comfortable and cared for until the very end. It's not something I'll ever forget, and it's an excruciating experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone... He and I would always play the seasonal events together, and we had been really looking forward to checking out The Dawning again. When I logged in today, it was a very bittersweet experience... Seeing the decorations, seeing Space Grandma, and watching all the Guardians gather for their annual bake-off... There was just one thing missing. I pushed through and started to check out the event offerings in Eververse, and noticed the event card. I usually like these a bit, but didn't expect too much out of it. When I opened the event card though, I had to fight back the tears (both joy and sadness, if I'm being honest). It almost felt like Bungie knew...even though there's no way they could have. With a featured emote giving us angel wings, an emote of slipping on the ice (running joke between he and I for years...he wouldn't dare walk on ice around me in the winter because he'd ALWAYS fall on his butt, but he never would if I wasn't around)... Then a snowy sparrow with the inscription "Even the harshest landscapes can look beautiful with a friend at your side." Sure, I know it's all just a coincidence... but still... for at least a few more moments, it was nice to feel like he was a part of it with me. Rest in peace, brother. Happy Dawning, Guardians.
