At the moment, both these guns are just falling behind its competitors and hard light is just looked at as a weapon to -blam!- with or for puzzles that require multiple damage types, so heres some ideas that could replace or go over the current traits.
Hard light:
Void - Every 10 Bullets Inflicts Weaken
Solar - Slowly Scorches Targets with more scorch if Ember of Ashes is equipped
Arc - Reloading after a kill Causes the next Target to Jolt (Just Voltshot)
Borealis:
Void - Precision hits Supress Targets
Solar - Precision kills Ignite the Target (3 Sec cooldown good)
Arc - Hits Jolt the Target
If this is too big of a buff, I think adding Elemental Capacitors to their catalysts would be huge.

Edited by JazzyPaladin477: 12/14/2023 1:24:08 AMEspecially void. “Increases stability and aim assist” Gun already has 100 stability and 100 aim assist. Did anyone even look at the gun before they slapped that on it? Should just have incandescant(scorch), volt shot (jolt) or destabilizing rounds ( volotile)Done.

1 ReplyNo strand or stasis?

Better yet, Hardlight - void has destabilizing, solar has incandescent, arc volt shot. Borialis - precision kills creating either ignitions, blinding explosions, or suppression explosions. Dead messenger - has heal clip, applies Amp, or repulsor brace.

6 RepliesEdited by BabyMoonArt: 12/12/2023 6:32:24 AMI actually had an idea for this once: First Catalyst update: Features all 7 damage types (assuming we're getting a 3rd darkness type). Second Borealis Each damage type (minus Kinetic) stuns a different champion: Solar - Unstoppable "Ignition" Void - Barrier "Volatility" Arc - Overload "Jolt" Stasis - Overload "Slow" Strand - Unstoppable "Suspend" 3rd Darkness (I call it Wrath) - Barrier "Drain" Hard Light Constant damage deals a special effect to enemies: Solar - Impact "scorches" targets. Void - Impact "destabilizes" targets. Arc - Constant damage Generates lightnight strikes that "jolts" targets. Stasis - Impact "slows" targets. Strand - Constant damage "suspends" enemies. 3rd Darkness (I call it Wrath) - Damage "leeches" enemies. I can explain the "Wrath" terminology if anybody is curious what the hell "Drain" and "Leech" would be.

2 RepliesEdited by GUARDIAN-IX: 12/11/2023 10:03:47 AMI used Hard light in The Coil to break the various shields but it would be nice if it got something a bit more.

3 RepliesThese guns need some buffs, but they need to be very careful. For Hard Light in particular, suggestions of applying Scorch, Volatile and Jolt in some form or other and giving intrinsic Anti-Barrier would make it very much a one-size-fits-all gun. They're meant to be versatile, not solve everything bar boss damage by themselves.
-
Meh…. Those kinda take away the whole flavor of the guns… Hardlight - how about leaning into the matching shield break effects. - Add to Trait: “Volatile Light” - breaking an enemy’s shield reloads and can overflow the magazine. Matching shield breaks reload additional ammo. - Add to Catalyst - Breaking a matching shield type Suppresses, heavily Scorches, or Jolts the target and increases incoming kinetic damage for a moderate time. Borealis - Is already a good gun, but just needs some general buffs. - Add to Trait: “Ionic Return” - Now reloads the entire magazine and regenerates 1 ammo from thin air on activation. - Add to Catalyst - Ionic Return rounds stun barrier champions and final blows cause targets to explode. Just my take tho ;)

Way to easy to stun overload/mini bosses/bosses Solar precision kills ignite? Way to much damage, and easy way to stun unstoppable champions and it's way to much AOE damage. Arc jolt? Yeah that would work Elemental capacitor is already in the catalyst.

Would be cool if they got key words like this. I also wish you could move them to the kinetic slot and get stasis, strand, and whatever comes next as well. They would truly be exotic.

Edited by Gemini Trash: 12/11/2023 3:04:02 PMMost of your suggestions are just ad clear relevant, and for a Sniper that's Terrible. How about Hard Light gets Incandescent on Solar, Destabilizing Rounds on Void, and Volt Shot on Arc. Given Hard Light's overpentrating effect with Volatile Light offer it an intrinsic Anti-Barrier These perks and effects are all quality for ad clear which for a Primary is perfect Then for Borealis add Volatile Rounds on Void, 34 Scorch on every shot on Solar so every 3 would offer an ignition, and then finally Jolt on Arc. Then add a 6th shot to the magazine so you could get 2 ignitions off on one mag. This would make it a jack of all trades for Champions and these effects would offer it an edge on other Snipers for DPS.

Just give Hard Light Volt Shot/Destabilising Rounds/Incandescent

At this point, I hope they do it just so I can stop seeing this same idea over and over and over and over.

Hard Light has been a favorite of mine for a long time. One thing that would be great is if you could lock in the energy type you're using and it stays this way until you change it again. It would be nice not to have to reselect the energy type you're using after you get killed, especially in Crucible.

Any gun without a damage boosting perk is just legendary shards(Gunsmith rank soon lol) -
Hard Light was really good when you had Match Game activities and auto rifle champion mods, but yeah, not quite as attractive these days. I like those ideas. Bungie should hire you.

5 RepliesGive hardlight target lock (and let pvp burn) Just scrap borealis people only use it for aim assist in pvp in void mode.

Hardlight just feels fat in the hands

I love Hard Light as is, but I'm also open. This seems interesting. If they keep deciding to push harder and harder they're going to have to start making guns Borderlands crazy in capabilities.
-
4 RepliesNothing wrong with Hard Light. It is my main weapon on my main toon (Warlock). Absolutely love that gun.

Those suggestions would be fun to try out. It may make some PvE things easier but PvP should be fine. Maybe.
