I played this mode for the first time last night. It took my buddy the entire match to explain to me how it even worked, but he had plenty of time because the match lasted 13 minutes. The very next match was countdown again. After another 12 minute match of confusion and extremely convoluted objectives, my friends and I had already had more than enough of this mode.
When I think of a competitive mode of anything, I imagine a straightforward contest of pure skill and a player's demonstration of their mastery of the core mechanics of the activity.
A good example is runners in a 100m dash. It would seem very silly to include a mud pit and zip line in such a race. This would greatly detract from the skills being demonstrated. These would seem more at home on an obstacle course, since that is not a demonstration of pure running speed.
For the same reason rift was an unwelcome addition to the competitive mode, countdown seems even worse. The matches are too long, and if I had to include one or the other, at least rift matches are faster.
Please remove countdown from competitive mode. It doesn't belong there.

Edited by Tis-but-a-scratch: 12/2/2023 10:49:53 PMGlad to hear others aren’t getting it either. I was completely lost. Thought I was doing the right thing several times just to find out I was doing it wrong….I guess Just to explain. There were times it would not allow me to set the bomb. But my team still won. There were times I set the bomb and it exploded and we lost.
