Update on Season of the Wish launch from D2 Team

Hey everyone, we launched Season of the Wish yesterday and have been monitoring the conversation around what you’ve been enjoying and what you haven’t. We’ll start things off with the Starter Pack, which is not something bringing joy. Which is why we’ve pulled it from stores. We’ve heard your concerns and agreed that there are other parts of Destiny 2 that new players should want to dive into first before chasing these Exotic weapons, cosmetics, and upgrade materials. Blind Well We’ve heard you that asking players to go back to the Blind Well as part of the first week’s story is a sore spot. One of our goals here was to make sure players knew from the start that there’s increased difficulty and new loot to earn in this activity. You won’t need to go back every week. Players will only be asked to return to the Blind Well once in Week 6, and it will be an opt-in activity after that for the rest of the Season. For the completionists out there, we’ll have one Seasonal Challenge tied to the Blind Well later in the Season, and one Heroic Blind Well completion requirement for the Seal. [b]Riven’s Lair and The Coil[/b] We’re happy to see the love for The Coil and Riven’s Lair from the community so far. We wanted to make sure loot was front and center, especially for those who go for Platinum. Remember, this is Week 1! Different paths through The Coil will be rotating as the season unfolds. However, the shard economy is a bit too unforgiving based on our early observations. The team is looking into improving this so the path to Platinum is still possible even if you don’t collect every shard from every pot. Speaking of loot, the team has already fixed an issue that prevented all players from getting loot from the chest at the end of a Riven’s Lair run. [b]PVP[/b] Our PvP Strike team has been delivering a lot of updates on changes coming to the game and we just launched several this week. Some early feedback we are seeing and would like to address: Control will be available as a selectable mode while Checkmate Control is active. More details to come in this week’s TWID tomorrow. We see a lot of speculation about Checkmate and what that means for core Crucible. We have no plans to turn Checkmate on across all of Crucible, instead we're aiming for a midway point for ability cooldowns, and weapon tuning that doesn't result in specific weapons dominating. We're also aware of some issues with Checkmate's special ammo implementation and will be trying various new approaches to improve this system. Regarding Checkmate TTK (time-to-kill) changes: we will be regularly tuning TTK. Our target going forward is to keep optimal TTK consistent with the current Crucible sandbox; i.e. the fastest you can defeat an opponent will remain unchanged. Meanwhile, we will be looking to reduce body shot damage. The end result is an increase in the skill gap, where consistent head shots are rewarded with faster TTK. We are aware that there are spawn issues in Countdown Rush on The Citadel and Multiplex. We will be temporarily disabling these two maps in Competitive. There seems to be some instances in which Belisarius-D (Competitive Pulse Rifle) is not being rewarded for completing the placement series challenge. We are actively investigating this. Iron Banner kicks off next Tuesday with the new Tribute mode, and we’ve got good news: Lord Saladin will start selling Iron Banner armor ornaments from Years 1 and 2, and the elusive Iron Symmachy set will return as the base set at last. Put those IB Engrams to work! [b]New Rocket Sidearm[/b] Regarding Anti-Barrier Sidearms this Season: we're super excited about the new Rocket Sidearm weapon sub-type launching this Friday in the new Warlord's Ruin Dungeon! This Sidearm archetype should give folks more opportunity to counteract Barrier Champions with this Season's Artifact even if they aren't leaning into the Solar Radiant Artifact Perks or existing intrinsic Anti-Barrier Exotics. As a reminder, Fireteam Finder launches this season (you can see it grayed out right now!), and our Raid Stress Test starts tomorrow.   • OK, this morning I got to run both the coil and the lair. I do not know who is raving about how fun these are, but my vote is they suck! Another season with seasonal activities that I will do my best to avoid. The coil with it's jumping, and associated dying if you fail to make the jump, limited revives, poison bombs, immunity for bosses, adds that spawn as fast or faster then you can kill them, NO THANK YOU! Just another horde mode with immunity bosses, not fun or engaging content! There is nothing fun about limited revives! The lair is slightly better, but again nothing that I think of as WOW this is new, engaging content. I wonder where you guys and gals get your ideas from. It just blows my mind that you think this is what players want. We have been screaming since the difficulty increases that we do not like this kind of content. You continue to ignore us all the while saying "we hear you, here is a change". I think you have lost your brain bucket, the whole lot of you!

    • Here’s my thought on every aspect of the game (not EVERY aspect, but most): [b]-PvP-[/b] It’s a steaming pile of garbage. Bungie, you need to [u]stop adding game modes that no one asks for[/u] (Trials Dominion, the past 2 Iron Banner game modes, Checkmate as the main PvP playlist, Sparrow Control), and instead [u]add new maps/needed changes.[/u] You removed Freelance (big mistake), you made terrible nerfs and buffs, and you completely ignored player response and did what [u]you[/u] thought the player base would want, instead of just giving them what they’ve been asking for. And it’s evident that you’re trying to start being spontaneous again, but you could just make big changes that have been asked for by the player base for years. How about instead of surprising the player base with a unique, but useless mode (Sparrow Control), you surprise the player base with a handful of brand new maps? Stop bringing back maps like Citadel, and give the players new stuff, not recycled stuff. You recycle old maps and game modes so much, it’s like Earth Day every day. Nerf annoying things in PvP (SMGs, Fusions), Buff fun things (Hand Cannons), remove dumb things (Trials Dominion, new Iron Banner game mode), add good things (More movement), and STOP NERFING ENTIRE CLASSES. I am a Warlock main, but Titan’s mistreatment over the past year is astonishing. The entire class is dead, while you lean into stuff like Stompees, Decoys, and constant Osmio spam. Bring back things like Twilight Garrison, and make the game fun again. [b]-PvE-[/b] You really destroyed PvE this season. Over the past year, difficultly has been raised substantially, buildcrafting has become nonexistent, the space magic (AKA the fun) has gone out the window, and survivability has been killed. You quadrupled down on making us feel powerless. We’re weaker, power and health-wise, our enemies are stronger, and the game just doesn’t feel fun anymore. Not just that, but activities feel almost impossible to overcome sometimes (GotD, Altars of Summoning). The main thing that really turned me off of PvE was the amount of grinding that you have forced on the playerbase. I mean, I absolutely loved Day 1 CE. I never was able to beat it, despite spending probably 25 of the 48 hours for Contest Mode. But it was still fun. The moment it ended, I still was excited to get Necro. Then I learned about Essence of Oversoul. Haven’t touched the raid since. Like the amount of grind that you expect the average player to participate in is insane. Festival of the Cost was a hard pass for me, as was most Seasonal Activities. I refuse to do a GM BG, and I have no idea which spawn of Satan would implement such an idea. PvE is just a big turn off for me right now, and the only reason I even bother going in is for my weekly red border from Neomuna. [b]-Classes/Subclasses-[/b] *Most of this will be from a PvP standpoint.* [u]Hunter[/u] I used to be a Titan main, so this is going to be a little biased, but Hunter is the best PvP class in the game, and I think anyone who believes otherwise is crazy. Best exotics, best overall subclasses, best abilities. Anyways here is the thought on the Subclasses. Solar: Solar Hunter is fine imo. The supers are phenomenal, the melees are great, the Aspects are arguably not the greatest, but it makes up for it with fun exotics to pair with it, and the best fragments. Void: Void Hunter is still very strong. I think it could use another melee, one that builds into stealth and movement, but doesn’t lean into constant invis spam. I personally think Vanishing Step is ridiculously strong, especially when paired with something like Graviton Forfeit, Wormhusk, or Gemini. Arc: Could use some love. I think that the OG Arcstrider was great (I think it was bottom tree that was the best), and I thought it was pretty harsh taking away the DR in dodge. I would like to see it buffed in PvP, because it is already incredible in PvE. Stasis: It’s already pretty damn good, but Stasis as a whole needs more ability options, and I think if we were to see a better melee option for Stasis, it would be in a pretty good state. Strand: Remove the f$&@!ing Decoys. Strand Hunter is so spammy right now, and I hate it so much more than Bastion. Threadings need to be toned down, the Decoy uptime needs to be nerfed, and Decoy needs to be easier to shut down (Shooting it destroys the Threadlings). [u]Titan[/u] It has received so many nerfs, and needs significant changes. Imo, it needs better exotics and better subclasses. Titan in general only has 2 good exotics: PKs and Dunes. PKs are only as good as SMGs are, and SMGs need a big nerf. So my wish list for buffs to Titan exotics is: Crest of Alpha Lupi Arbor Warden Icefall Mantle Twilight Garrison Arc: Thruster needs some love, and so does Shoulder Charge because Bungie decided to gut it. It can’t one shot or be activated on slide, so bring back the infinite charge. There’s no point in using it offensively anymore, so let it be a movement option. I’m trying to be fair, so it would be wrong of me to exclude Knockout. Knockout needs to be toned down. Knockout currently gives health regen, damage, and melee range. They need to remove 1 of the 3. But in doing so, they also need to buff its survivability in PvE. Void: I don’t know tbh. The overshields are annoying, but the uptime is so low. So here’s what I propose for Bastion: One time overshield. When you cast Bastion, you and nearby allies get an overshield that has unlimited time, but you can’t regen it behind the barricade. When it’s gone, it’s gone. BUT, the barricade you cast is unbreakable, or at the very least has MASSIVELY increased health. This leans more into the Bastion role, and it makes it feel more like a Titan ability rather than a Healing Rift. Solar: It needs some significant buffs. Throwing Hammer needs better tracking and damage, Sunspots need to feel like they actually do something, Roaring Flames needs to last longer/have better uptime, and the Supers need buffs. Stasis: Behemoth is by far the worst subclass in the game. Shiver Strike needs to go back to how it was, Coldsnap needs to feel better without Osmios, and Cryoclasm needs to do more than just allow you to shotty ape from farther away. Strand Titan: It needs to be better in PvP without Abeyant. What I suggest is to just steal the second half of Abeyant’s identity and give it to Dendgry’s Lash. So Dendgry’s Lash at base gives you Woven Mail after suspending a target. In addition to that, Shackle Grenade needs to be more consistent. [u]Warlock[/u] Warlock is in a pretty good state, but it tends to rely too much on exotics. For example, Void with Astrocyte, Stasis with Osmio, Arc with Getaway Artist, even Strand with Necros. Arc: The melees need some changes, because the blink melee aspect is just so much better, and it has almost monopolized the Stormcaller melee slot. Arc Souls still feel very weak without Getaway, and they need to do something more. Not more damage or RPM, just something. Void: It just feels so weak without Astrocyte, and buffing Pocket Singularity and giving it another melee option will definitely help, but I also just think that it needs to be more of the power-sucking subclass. So I think maybe a melee that drains an enemy would be best, especially when you pair it with something like Void Soul. Solar: It’s in a great spot, no changes needed. However, a lot of the Solar grenades need to be better. Starting with Swarm Grenades, they need to be significantly stronger. Thermite as well, and Tripmine. Tripmine without YAS just feels useless. Stasis: It’s so bad without Osmios. But with Osmios, it’s godly. So here’s my proposal: Even out Osmios and Coldsnaps. What I mean, is make Coldsnaps better at base, and take away some of Osmios benefits, and give it to base Coldsnaps. My idea is that, with the changes, Coldsnaps with Osimios will feel exactly the same as they did before, but Osmios won’t feel so vital, because base Coldsnaps will feel better. Strand: Nerf Threadlings. The Threadling spam needs to go, that’s first. After that, buff the melee. So, those were my thoughts for the entire state of the game. Instead of acting like a developer, you just act like every other greedy business out there, and you think just removing 1 thing is just going to make everything better now when your content in this game is just getting worse and worse over time???

        • I'm going to attempt some constructive criticism involving this season. I doubt it will be any help, because the game director seems to be egotistical enough to believe what he thinks is reality, but whatever. The Coil is receiving some hate from a lot of players and I don't think blaming the playerbase for your shortcomings is productive at all. The complaints are all the same and I happen to agree. The platforming sections. Specifically the one with the traps in the doorways and hidden on platforms above you that you can't see until you are already committed. For one thing the area of effect from these traps is larger than the actual trap. You die even though you weren't on top of it. But the main problem is how often you go through the same area every single run of the Coil. It should be one run through that area. Between boss fights you should be either teleported directly to the next encounter or run through a blank hallway. In Riven's Lair it hardly matters, but in the coil it's meaningless repetition that results in cheap deaths and in Hunters(who have a much easier jump profile for these sections) running ahead and causing a loading screen and a bypassing of the Raid Banner. The Warlock jump profile is the worst for avoiding those traps and for hitting a ceiling obstruction. I know some people will say "I'm a Warlock and have no problems", but mostly these are just lies they tell to make themselves seem special. I've been platforming on Warlock for the entire history of Destiny and if I have problems with it, it's a problem. Once a warlock gets set off on a bad elevation plane it's just over, while a Titan can melee onto a ledge and a Hunter can actually jump off the side below a platform and then regain elevation by jumping again midair. You could bring an eager edge sword, but then you'll be hindered in the encounters. If you swap for the platforming encounters you will probably end up loading screened past the ammo banner and will have no heavy ammo. Anyway, long story short... going through the same trap section so many times in one run feels cheap and lazy.

          • Thank you for all your hard work, Bungie. It means a lot that you try and listen to feedback and do what you can. I don't agree with every decision you make, but I at least try and remember that it's [b]impossible[/b] to please [b]everyone[/b] and that you try your best, because you care about us. I really appreciate it, and I'm sure I'm not alone, despite all the negative, hateful and screwed up comments I'm reading. Happy holidays to you guys and your families! :)

            • Sony about to sunset bungie after Final Shape. Can't get new players in when you try to monetize their first move and then remove a good chunk of the security team to protect new lights from cheaters. Just because you removed it from the store doesn't mean the damage is removed from the starter pack, it was more of a forced moved from all the horrible PR that came from it

              • You want to please everyone. 1: Revert all nerfs and increased Cooldowns. Let us be the god killers we have become after 10 years. 2: Add Dust to every single Item in Eververse and Add All Event Items to Eververse. - 2.5: Add All Eververse Items and Season Event Items that have since passed, to the world loot. Let us actually play and get Items that are in the store, from simply playing. The Eververse Engrams are not enough and hardly drop anything Exotic or Ornaments.

              • They probably will sunset more stuff soon because they "need the space". I hope you guys understand that this whole thing is a fraud to make you want stuff back and they have a chance to just recycle old -blam!-. PvP is the worst for me. Reused old maps. Or... Multiplex that looks -blam!- and was built in 4 days.

                • You are pushing it way past your limit Bungie. You are losing the grip. I don't know what the higher ups are doing, but their decisions are killing this game. It's too late for damage control now. Words no longer mean anything. At this point, all I care about are in game changes. I don't care what's coming, I don't care what's promised, all I care about is what is in there, right now. Eververse has become an abomination. Games like Diablo Immortal seem to be where you drive inspiration from. You give us less things to buy with bright dust every update. We used to grind for BD to buy Eververse stuff, now there is no reason to. You want us to pay, not play. When I load into D2 these days, I'm greeted with ads and banners, basically - give me more money! right in my face. Starter pack - total scam. I don't like this, I don't enjoy this, so on. Guns are recycled, perks are uninteresting. The only cool guns that do cool things are exotics these days, and they are becoming more and more of a pain to get. Core playlist is dead. Pvp is awful (but it's always been for casual players, so no change there). Builds are simplified and nerfed, to the point where we need to run same old meta sh, and that becomes very boring very fast. So many negative things to be able to state them all. There are some positives. QoL changes are good. Difficulty scaling according to fireteam is excellent (more of that please). Some seasonal activities are all right. General improvements and things like that. In conclusion - this is not looking good.

                  • "We want to deliver for our PvP players." Can I return to sender? Because if this is what's being delivered, I don't want it. How can I spell this out to make it as clear and concise as possible.... WE DON'T WANT NEW, HALF-BAKED, TERRIBLE GAME MODES. WE WANT NEW MAPS. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel. Stop trying for force us to play random BS modes in Iron Banner. Just make it Control and leave well enough alone. STOP LISTENING TO STREAMERS. WE AREN'T THEM. The vast majority of us just want to play and have fun, and we could care less about (insert streamer here). News flash, nerfing everything into the ground for Titans (I am a Warlock main) isn't fun for them. If the ENTIRE community sees it, how are y'all so blind to not see it? For a company that wants player retention, because player retention turns into dollars, y'all are doing everything you can to turn people off to the game. TLDR; K.I.S.S. Keep it Simple Stupid

                              To be frank yall looking like DnD's Chromatic Red dragons rn. Be Better NGL Bungie, the amount of double dipping into the player base pockets ain't appealing. We have told you this, this time you listened, but you may want to rework the entirety of the Monetization structure and work on the goodwill aspect of the game. Christmas is just around the corner all... Wanna really show some goodwill for the holiday season that may pull in new players? Have every playlist and activity be tuned to double rewards, Like with nightfalls, with heightened chances for red border drops. Refresh older dungeons and raids as well ? Oh and maybe clean up that list of 12 different packs of content you have sitting in the store, the emote and silver packs are one thing but having new players have to sift through 9 different content packs to get caught up is silly, Legit just have the legacy collection and have all the story stuff in it. Better yet make the majority of it free to play up to the witch queen. you really gotta focus on good will rn, the devs got their hands full atm so the marketing squad or whoever bright idea to overmilk this game to the point it drives away veteran players and newcomers needs a reality check.
