Back when buffs stacked you had every member of the Fireteam coming together to contribute to the damage phase. Titans with their Melting Point and Bubble, Warlocks with Well and Arc Soul Empowering Rift, and Hunters with Tether and the Stylish Execution.
I see many people complaining that Well makes that game boring, but refuse to acknowledge that the current state of the sandbox reduces both Titans and Hunters to pure damage in the damage phase while delegating Warlocks to full Buff/Debuff support. The quote "Since You're already on Well so you might as well be Div/Tractor too" will probably ring familiar to most Warlocks. It's gotten so bad that during a Master Crota run I when I ask a Titan to swap to Phoenix Cradles so everyone could gain restoration from Sunspots I get the response "Do I look like a Warlock". These classes have gone so long without doing any kind of support roll that they not only don't know how to run support for their class, but also don't even want to.
Warlocks currently have to carry the entire damage phase for survivability and damage support while the other classes get the brain dead job of point and shoot. If this playstyle were occurring in Forsaken I'd be begging these players to please participate and contribute to damage, but realistically in this sandbox I recognize there are few scenarios where any class other than a Warlock could contribute anything at all. This in my opinion is poor gameplay design.
Finally to entertain the idea of nerfing Well let's say we remove the healing factor from it. What then would the sandbox look like? All of these encounters were still balanced with a healing factor in mind. With no healing Well becomes a strategic liability so Bubble will come back into play like it had in D1 and Phoenix Cradle Hammers will become the best support super for healing. Warlocks no supers for DPs that contend with what the Titan or hunters have so prepare to be passed up if that's your main, Titans will be back to dedicated Bubble with Helm of Saint-14 or Phoenix Cradle Hammers, and Hunter will remain the highest DPS due the the ease and effectiveness of their 1-off supers

2 RepliesStacking buffs/debuffs makes bosses get designed with way too much health so people aren't 1 shooting them. Then the only way people can really kill the boss is with obscene amounts of stacking which disproportionately punished teams not using the perfect team comp.
