The harsh reality is that we all want destiny to be this larger than life game. Every person wants something different, and we want a game tailored to our specific tastes. It isn’t going to happen. Bungie is a business, and they have to make decisions that will turn a profit. Speaking of making a profit…
If you’re a hardcore player, you’re in the minority. You aren’t the most profitable gamer. You’re a top tier gamer, but you’re not part of the profitable group. You most likely are smart about your spending, and you’ve probably realized there are better games out there. You’re probably falling out of the franchise, and you should be. This game isn’t moving in the direction you want.
This game has to cater to the casual audience (or at least the leadership believes it needs to). I argue that the “casual audience” simply isn’t a profitable audience because casuals are very “fair weather” and can’t be counted on for revenue- they don’t spend much money and they never stick around -but history shows that catering toward the average consumer does improve profits.
By no means should you stop giving feedback and pushing for good changes, but there is clearly a hard ceiling. There are moments in this franchise that are now unattainable. The taken king and forsaken were 2 golden age moments in destiny 2, but we’ll never be in that moment again. We can’t be. I believe the final shape will be a meaty expansion on principle (Bungie has no choice but to invest everything they have into it for the safety of player trust), but it will most likely be the last big thing.
I just want the community to be aware of the fact that it simply isn’t financially feasible for Bungie to exist as a “live service” game developer while simultaneously delivering beefy “well-processed” content. The two clash, especially from a development perspective. The expenses required for a company to exist for long periods of time between content drops in order to make sure content drops are meaty and “forsaken-esque” are not possible from a financial perspective. It takes a large number of employees to support a live-service model. I don’t believe Bungie will be backing down from their live-service model. The company would have to begin to truly tank for them to even consider backing down.

Edited by Seiryoku: 11/20/2023 1:54:35 PMTrying to please everyone and having conflicting views occupying the same space doesn't help either. It's not possible. Though it's been a damn good try. Couldn't quite achieve a synergistic state. They should satisfy the larger group with the spending power, but that doesn't mean adhering to all of that groups suggestions for design. Just not making it inaccessible for them. Producing content for the core activities might be nice. Designing things to be enjoyable and not trap the player to boost play time numbers could be good.
