Cataphract GL3

I am playing pve mostly as I find pvp to be quite unbearable at times. But as Cataphract is a best-in-slot pve weapon, I went out of my way to farm it this season. Obviously envious+B&S with spikes is the one, but I thought, just to double the chance of hitting one, I'd be fine with demo+b&s with spikes as well. Trials reputation progression I have reset 4 and a half times with Saint and have yet to see a single one. This may not be much for the pvp-players but I am terrible at trials (48% win ratio and .88 k/d), thus my progress is very heavily limited. Since I am incapable of going flawless by myself I solely rely on rankup engrams and post-match rewards. In order to reach maximum reputation gains, it is required to stack up wins on the card. This only impacts the start of a farming weekend as I stay on 7 wins with a wealth-card but I tend to be much slower stacking this up than the much better player. Then the ranks progress a lot slower when you lose. The following numbers apply on a double reputation week like currently active. I used a passage of wealth for the increased reputation gain, which results in losses being between 150 and ~260 points while wins award somewhere between 470~510 points. Then if you get 0 kills or assits, you get only 75 points. And these make sense for the mode of trials. You obviously want people to not afk for reputation or throw matches for the quicker loss. But this heavily impedes progress of terrible pvp-players like me. I had quite a few matches this week where the lobby was so heavily sided by player quality, that I and often enough my teammates struggle heavily for a single kill or assist. For me this is to the point, where I am mentally suffering until I reach the freeing kill/assist. Odds and frustrating in-game-aspects Adding to that, Cataphract (same for the newer trials weapons) has an artificially increased perk pool 7|7 and spikenades is a lot more relevant than impact casing on a rocket, meaning you really want to hit column 2 (also 7 perks) as well. The chance for getting a specific roll (not considering 1st slot and MW) is approximately 0.58%. Meaning on average 1 out of 171.5 rolls are what we are looking for. This requires 10 resets without post-match engrams (and obviously does not guarantee such a roll). I get the feeling that this is made so I: I spend more time ingame II: I specifically spend time in trials acting as cannon fodder for good pvp players and so they can progress much quicker. I am not attacking ppl for being good in pvp here. You deserve better progression on these. What I truly hate about this is it being a best-in-slot for pve (I am a fan of it being the best pvp GL though), as well as unique wepontype+element-wise. What is my personal result? I currently feel terrible, both mentally and physically (the first likely impacting the latter). I feel terrible for trying, terrible for doing this to myself, for spending this much time in a mode I rarely enjoy; terrible for being incapable of improving both regarding matches as well as the resulting progression. I give up. To everyone who has gotten one: Good job. You have beaten the odds or they have tried to beat you, yet you came up ahead. What I'd wish for I have come up with a few ways of improving these, some more technicaly demanding than others. They don't neccessarily need to coexist (though it wouldn't hurt) but imo any of these would improve the current situation (my clear favourite is II) I: Stop putting pve best in slots in pvp playlists (and vise versa) I am all for good weapons being there (with alternatives from other playlists) but keep the best in slots to playlists that fit where you are going to use the weapon. I described it feeling terrible for me going into trials for this long. At the same time it feels terrible running GMs on a Palindrome week (as an example); the weapon yielded not much use in pve but was amazing in pvp. Also I imagine the pvp-mains didn't enjoy grinding GMs for Palindrome that much either and would have rather seen a premium void 140 pvp hc in trials. II: Give us means to choose a single slot on a weapon that we can change for a hefty cost. Like this, there is still grind involved but this combats the ugly nature of pure randomness. Barely anyone will have a 100% roll but you can get close by working for it. III: Reduce the size of the perk pools again. Having 7|7 on the newer IB, trials (and fotl) weapons increases the average time spent by a lot. This is obviously in Bungie's interest but it feels bad from a player's perspective and might just cause the opposite.

 • Interesting take that was well thought out. I disagree with the premise of your statement though. I think it’s good to have amazing weapons that occasionally are in other playlists as it encourages others to try something different. It doesn’t happen often IE pally, plug1, reeds, cataphract There are always side grades available but maybe not quite as good - these are supposed to be end game rewards after all. 6 resets with saint and no EE/BNS here. Best I have is an field prep BNS with spike
