Promethium Spur is unbelievably bad

The concept of the exotic is kind of cool, but due to how ridiculously strict the trigger conditions are, it's almost impossible to ever make use of it outside of using your super for ad clear. Bungie, this exotic could easily be so cool, if you'd just take even a cursory glance at it and fix its glaring issues. The fact that you need to be already standing in a Rift to trigger your dual Rift means that it's almost never gonna happen, and is never reliable, because it's so hard to get your Rift energy back to full before the one you're standing in expires. Just let it work like it used to, where it could spawn the dual Rifts on any solar weapon kill while your energy was full, without needing to stand in a Rift. It also definitely needs a buff to the Rift energy it provides from weapon kills, because compared to most things in the current sandbox, that tiny amount of energy is a joke.

  • What you talking about It's not bad it's Broken Bad, unusable, trash they made it worst then the previous set up HOW is that possible Bungie REWORK *Consume your Gernade to turn your next rift into a empowering/healing rift * Solar weapon kills recharge rift energy * Dawnblade/Sunsinger spawn empowering/healing rift on kills

  • Most exotics based on rifts are terrible because the basic function of rifts are so bad in most content. There have been some that were good like vesper and frost pulse rift combos, and pre nerf Starfire protocol dps, which only worked because there are a lot of situations where you were stationary in a well doing boss damage. But who tf cares that you can drop a rift when you die, extend rift timers with kills, make empowering rifts give overload rounds, or make seekers that give the bad basic rift buffs to teammates not in the rift? Those bonuses are so bad that none of them are even worth using even over something super generic like ophidian aspect or eye of another world. At least those have decent passive benefits rather than bad benefits you have to actively use.

    • I don't know why but for some reason the Bungie devs seem to labor under the impression that the rift is the most powerful class ability, and I think that's crazy back literally every D2 player collectively disagrees with that notion. Rift sucks, and it'll probably always suck outside of a few specific set of circumstances

The problems I have are: - controlling where the rift spawns so that it’s in a reasonable spot. Too often the cooldown is tough to keep track of mid-combat leading to rifts placed in corners or across gaps. - the amount of time needed for start up before the exotic actually functions well. At the start of an encounter you need to activate your rift in order for the perk to function. Otherwise you might as well run something else. You need to re-earn your rift at the start of every encounter. The design is cool, but outside of a few specific situations you run into trouble.

      • I was thinking that they could follow the same rules as the reworked hallowfire heart. Where (solar weapon I guess) kills while standing in a rift would drop continuous rifts. I honestly cannot comprehend the need for the nerf to the extent they went to. No one was complaining about it being too strong, and the only complaint was the fact that the rift spawning was inconsistent!

        • It needs a new ability entirely. I never saw that Exotic as particularly useful for anything. Standing in a rift and getting kills, or getting kills with your Super, just to spawn empowered/healing rifts--in the middle of enemies, instead of at your feet--just seems kinda useless to me. Maybe if the Rifts could also damage and Scorch enemies, and the Daybreak Super could spawn them on impact instead of kills, it might be useful, but outside of that, it just never seemed worth equipping. Maybe they could change it so that it gives Phoenix Dive the ability to leave behind a Scorching Rift on impact, and during the Daybreak Super, it applies escalating Scorch stacks to Ignite enemies.
