That topic keeps returning like a boomerang.
I agree that you should not hoard stuff, like if you have 20 sniper rifles, but realistically you only use 3 of them, shredd the rest. Seriously you gonna feel better. But that's not the point. If you think about it, limited vault space makes no sense, cos' every item in your vault can be referenced by just using a number.
Let me explain. Let's say that there are 10000 weapons & armor pieces in the game, like - for example - Immortal is item nr 5678, Stompies is item nr 123... and so and so. Then going further you can use numbers to reference the exact stats, perks, masterwork, armor mods and even your current shaders. Like for example smallbore is 23, kill clip is 77, 10 resiliance is 210, arc loader is 314... you get the point.
So, basically you can describe any item in your vault by using a long number. But wait, you might say, thats not right. A gun or armor piece is not a number, it's not a list of perks, it's an in-game object, it has geometry, textures, shaders, even sound effects and a lore tab, and that stuff takes alot of memory. Yes, but that data is a core part of the game itself, and doesn't need to be included in any vault file, cos' your vault is just a list of items that you own, nothing more.
Ok, so if any single item in your vault can be described by a number, lets be generous, and take a really long 100-digit number, tho in reality it would take way less if you count the possible perk/stat/mod options. A 100-digit random number in notepad takes about 0.1KB, 600 of them - 60KB. So basically you can store all the necessary info about the contents of your vault in a single 60KB text file. Seriously, check it for yourself.
Ok, let's assume that Destiny 2 has 50 million accounts. That would be 3TB of server space. Let's triple it for safety/backup reasons - thats just 9TB, which is nothing for a big company. I'm pretty sure some of you have that kinda storage space at home.
So, what's the problem in giving people 1000 or even 2000 vault space? Is this just like the glimmer cap, or am I missing something here? Sorry for my english, and have a great day.

2 RepliesI have 1 of every unsubstantiated weapon and exotic armor, plus a set of dreambane armor and my original 2017 Red War 0 light armor.
-
1 ReplyI made that point a few years ago. Also suggested putting ships, sparrows and ghosts into menus like emotes instead of the vault. The Team can get whatever weapon they like any time they want with their special builds so for them it's a non issue. They don't care about us and aren't smart enough to realize that some people play games just to collect all the stuff. Some people want all the stuff in Eververse too, but have no room for it.

Edited by PK_Haseo: 11/9/2023 11:30:28 AMI would pay $2+tax for extra an 50 slots in vault 👍

After watching several videos on ranking Exotic armor, I suddenly realized my "world view" of useful armor would have to be re-set. Having 3 or 4 great stat rolls on an exotic that is (currently) totally useless is insane! No matter how good the stat roll is, "Not worth the slot it takes up" has now, very rudely, slapped me up side the face! That is almost all of it! I'll save it all until after Shards are no longer the spoils of dismanteling, then it is off to the recycle bin for 90% of Exotic armor in my vault.

6 RepliesSeriously two out of your three characters have blue weapons. Get rid of your blue/green weapons in your vault that'll help for a start.

Pretty sure Bungie has said in the past that they made a poor choice when coding the vault, they made it so every person in the tower has their vaults loaded by everyone in the tower every time. That means the more stuff and the more people the longer it takes to load the tower. Honestly it doesn't make much sense to me why that would cause so much lag but that is the reasoning we have been given for the limits on vault space and why its supposedly so hard to add more. Personally I'm not hard up for vault space, like 150 open slots in mine. But I can see why other people might want more.

The answer to vault space in my opinion lies in collections. Let’s say you unlock a specific roll on your weapon, it unlocks those perks. Next time you get that weapon drop it unlocks more perks. Whatever perks your new drop has unlocks more perks. It would work similar to the crafting system.

1 ReplyNo vault space - no preorders. Very simple.

Edited by thegodmachine: 11/8/2023 9:49:22 PMIf we stopped using or dismantled weapons we paid for in the past just for them to become useless 2/3 seasons after what does that tell you about the game? What's the point of paying and playing if you won't keep your stuff?
-
the deal is they've tried to extend D2 out indefinitely and you have years more loot than a vault was expected to hold. How old is this game like 5 years? that many years after d1 you were on d2 with a half empty vault. We should be on d3 with new stuff and a half empty vault. But they are trying to just extend d2 forever.
-
Cause it's not needed.

1 ReplyI look in my vault and if the weapon is still 1600 power level I obviously do not use it and then delete it.
-
5 RepliesBungie has talked a lot about memory issues when it comes to adding more stuff to the game, so I don't think it was ever a data storage issue.
-
I think bungie needs to curb up the putting out more new weapons and armors if they have trouble with memory space and add a new feature option for our vault that would show us weapon frame types. I would like to be able to see list of my sniper rifles, for examples, that I have without spending hours trying to find them all just to compare/ manage them in my vault. Otherwise, I’ll just keep wishing for more spaces in my vault cuz it is tiresome to search around for my stuffs.
-
Make collections work properly, wouldn’t need more vault space

1 ReplyEdited by A_mo: 11/8/2023 9:28:43 PMOkay so I stopped at the part where you started telling me how to manage my collectionnnnnnnn.

The deal is, it's not increasing. .

1 ReplyEdited by Lyricx93: 11/8/2023 8:17:42 PMThe problem with getting extra vault space is a technical one that has bad effects on the game. In short, increases in vault space takes up more of the active memory in the game. If this is stressed it slows down loading times considerably. With old gen consoles still being supported it makes it impossible for them to add more without sacrificing the stability of the game on old generation consoles, incredibly long loading times into activities and loading zones are already an issue on older consoles. Once it stops being supported all together they can increase vault space more but that probably won’t happen until the end of the year cycle after TFS drops. Only thing you can do in the mean time is mass delete things you don’t use and don’t keep things you probably won’t use in the future.

8 RepliesThe topic will always come back. The problem with giving people 1000 is they'll want more. The problem with giving people 2000 is they'll want more. Unless it's uncapped, which is NOT a workable solution, then people will always want more. They just have to basically arbitrarily decide where to draw the line.
-
1 ReplyThe deal with it is people don’t know how to let go. No reasons to have copies of loot.
-
1 ReplyPossibly memory issues like the other guy said or more specifically related to old gen still being supported. Or there is another reason Bungie is reluctant. Perhaps maybe they somehow see a benefit to not bumping it up who knows.
-
1 ReplyWe have learnt from other sources - hearsay - the game's engine is pretty outdated and complicated. Little changes already taking ages/lots of effort. Hence your reasonable assumptions in reality most likely not working. They are smart as well, obviously there are software/system limitations preventing such easy changes.

Edited by TheShadow: 11/8/2023 12:03:14 AMGoing off your title, An outdated engine this business shoved 2 games into and trying to make it one but failed?
-
1 ReplyThe reason there isn’t any vault space is because Bungie haven’t found a way to monetize it yet.
-
4 RepliesI love breakdowns like this. It's nothing to do with memory. Imagine having 2000 or even 1000 vault space. Players would just use it to hoard exotics, certain ships etc to dismantle for currencies when a new season dropped......and Bungie wouldn't like that.

7 RepliesEdited by It Was Me, Barry: 11/8/2023 12:07:57 AMThe thing is, we really don't need more. I wouldn't complain if we got more, but we simply don't need it. This is an illustration, not saying "look at me": I have done roughly 500 GMs, 500 dungeons, and 300 raids. Master dungeons, master raids, duo GMs, every dungeon solo, etc. Also done plenty of PVP and gone flawless 10ish times. That's almost everything in the game someone can do besides the gigachad gamers who solo raids and stuff. I have 170 free spaces in my vault. 600 spaces is fine.
