A very sad heartbroken rant about Bungie

You know, I've been playing Destiny since the release of the original game, and I must say that after all the disappointments this company has given me, this one really takes the cake. It's time to admit it. The Bungie we loved is gone. The people who had genuine passion have been fired. But honestly I'm not here to talk about how messed up that is. I'm here to give a very sad emotional rant about how everything that has happened here could have been avoided. I've seen some people say that it's actually the players' fault that Bungie is in this mess. Naturally, anyone who says this gets clowned on, but I think they're actually right. Not for the reason they claim, of course, but right nonetheless in a way they do not understand. The sad truth is that it actually is the players' fault that Bungie is dying; but no, it's not because the players boycotting Bungie make it so vewy hawd for the multibillionaire company. It's because they didn't boycott Bungie sooner. I've always had the seemingly rare clairvoyance to know before anyone else that a storm was brewing within Bungie, and that they would really start to push the line on what they could get away with. Not because I am some kind of prophet, but because I'm not a fool. But every time I tried to say this, I was hushed by the masses who always tried to assure me that they totally had absolutely no choice but to remove hundreds of dollars of legally owned content from players. I'm not angry at you guys... I'm just sad and disappointed. People only started holding Bungie accountable after Lightfall's disastrous launch and I've been cursed with knowledge as I watch my favorite game become a casino, and as my favorite company becomes a corporate cesspool. I always knew this day would come, and if we actually held Bungie accountable when they stole literally hundreds of dollars from each and every player, then maybe they wouldn't have gotten away with everything that came after, and maybe we could have forced them to change. If we all held Bungie accountable when they made us pay for their own anniversary event, or started taking dungeons out of the expansions and put them in $20 packs, then maybe things would have been different. I admit, it is quite cathartic to finally get a chance to say "I told you so", but it doesn't outweigh the sorrow I feel knowing that the game that I have such a passion for is truly, unequivocally, destroyed beyond repair. The Bungie I loved is gone. The Destiny I loved is gone. All that loyalty, all that passion, and of course all that money I gave to Bungie and for what? A company that is now just as bad, if not worse, than Activision. And now it's too late. A once ambitious game filled with the potential to be one of the best shooters ever made to match the legacy of the Halo trilogy is now in a worse state than it's ever been, and the entire rest of the game has been kneecapped just so that sorry state can be a little bit better. Before, we at least had a chance to get things like the Red War and Forsaken back, as small at that chance was, but not anymore cause now they added those stupid recap missions and have replaced all the Red War strikes with worse versions related to Lightfall. Unless we somehow miraculously got a complete ground-up rework to every aspect of the game's structure, monetization, and philosophy, Destiny 2 is now completely unsalvageable. I'm sorry, but it is time for Destiny 2 to die. Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to go drown myself in the melancholic nostalgia of Destiny 1. It's still almost completely untouched by the all-consuming greed of Bungie, and for that least I am grateful. I recommend that everyone else does the same. You would be surprised how great it feels to go back to it after all this time.

 • Destiny has been full of bad decisions since day -blam!- 1. You're not some smarty pants for finally noticing in Beyond Light, and you're far from the only person who rang alarm bells. Take your self satisfied sanctimony and shove it where the sun don't shine.
