Sony last year :
A Washington Post report published days after the acquisition said Bungie leadership told staff there would no “absolutely no layoffs” as a result of the acquisition.
Sony today:
Dozens of ex-Bungie employees have since posted on social media platforms like X and LinkedIn to share the news that they were impacted by the layoffs. The layoffs appear to be spread across Bungie’s community and social teams, marketing, legal, recruiting, art, human resources, quality assurance, and elsewhere.
Remember this when you vote. Big corporations who get tax breaks then hurt others.

5 RepliesDestiny 2 has been going downhill ever since they decided to change the difficulty, redo all the armor mods. I mean this game use to be fun but now it’s like a second job just to do anything more than basic difficulty. Like K1 lost sector today. Way too stupidly hard on legendary. Before difficulty rework it use to be fun and still a challenge. But now you need to narrow your tube of play style and find a meta build. Have right champion mods, hurry and solo. Before you could play how you wanted, still be a little little bit of a challenge and still succeed. Grandmaster was the hard choice. Hopefully it’s Sony seeing how crappy this game has gone down hill just before lightfall and with lightfalls release.

This is on Bungo management, not Sony.

Sony didn’t lay anyone off, bungie did. The layoff decisions came directly from Bungie management, not Sony. This is not about Sony replacing Bungie employees with their own people. Many employee benefits (though not health insurance), only last until the end of the month if you're let go. Laying people off on the 30th means a single additional day of coverage.

1 ReplyFalse on the big corporations' tax breaks. If there is a hiring freeze that means corporations are getting taxed. If there are tax breaks then corporations are able to hire. In the IT field, I know corporations have put a hiring freeze unable to hire. During a contract, my lead has been a contractor for a while and the company to this day won't hire him because of a hiring freeze. You can thank or blame someone in the upper government about this. I too have been struggling to find IT work due to companies having a that hiring freeze. It is sad to lose your job and not able to feed your family. That is why I refused to ever vote again in 2024.

Edited by TheShadow: 10/31/2023 12:16:45 PM"Bungie said this, Bungie said that" People need to start actually paying attention to a business actions, words don't hold much weight these days.

Maybe Sony wasn’t happy with the game direction? People arent pre ordering dlc. Legendary shard removal, garbage servers, recycled content, nerfing weapons and armor.
-
4 RepliesMaybe they were laid off because pre-orders of Final Shape were awful as a result of the mess that was Lightfall? Maybe they were laid off because plans for an extraction shooter (that nobody in Destiny’s PvE community will play ) are stupid and will bomb?

Tell me ONE singular employer that tells employees in advace that there will be lay offs. Its business, obviously there will be layoffs sooner or later. Maybe the productivity of some of these positions wasnt that high all along? Has nothing to do with big bad sony. Its simply resource management. If Bungie didnt push their employees to work from home for their work life balance for years, and pushed political agendas that much, maybe the productivity would have been much higher and layoffs wouldnt have been necessary?

Well they stated “making games is hard” Sony probably did not like that take as it was a cop out. Also the acquisition was well over a year ago. That doesn’t mean they would not terminate positions ever. The grace period was more than likely a year to see how things shake out, and honestly it’s sad to say but change should have happened sooner.

Just to clarify something, but can we take a moment to reflect on the fact Bungie is the only company to be willing to do this? I mean like yeah, layoffs are extremely common, but I personally never in my entire life heard lay offs and a product being delayed in the same sentence. Call me insane but normal companies actually accept the fact that inorder to make money, there's a minimum staffing level, and its a disliked expense to those at the top, but they at least accept that if they are going to run a company, they need a minimum amount of staff to achieve anything in doing it. You never lay off essential employees. When you are delaying the only products you even make, you are doing something wrong with your lay offs. You need that minimum amount of staff to even make something you can sell and no company on Earth is stupid enough to think the best idea is to get rid of the core of employees. I think this make the picture rather clear, especially when considering the stories that keep being claimed about Bungie and how they treat their employees, that Bungie literally sees their staff as a nuisance, basically. Your opinion on your staff has to be EXTREMELY low if you think they need to be let go even if they are necessary to meet your deadlines. And can we also acknowledge something else? So Bungie claims that the money from Sony, mostly ended up in employee retention. What other company like pays its employees to stay with them, and once they take the money, -blam!- it, let's fire them anyways! Maybe Bungie wouldn't think laying off the essentials of their company if they didn't do stupid -blam!- like paying employees not to leave them and then firing them immediately after? And thus, maybe there's some rather substantial reasons why people at Bungie need significant money above beyond the salary they already make, as a bribe to stay with them?
Are we supposed to be oblivious to Sony being blamed for all of this, but that is funny considering Bungie would claim this when everyone on Earth heard about Sony buying them, but lucky for Bungie, did you even hear about the fact Sony told Bungie to do whatever the -blam!- they want, they get to operate completely independent, till at least when Sony even has time to take over control of their processes. Sony literally said "do whatever you want for the time being, as long as we are receiving money now for being your owners, we really don't have the time for any of the other stuff". But yes Bungie, we are neive people that cannot form our own thoughts about you do to our Stolkholm Syndrome, even if the amount of player today is nothing whatsoever compared to the past stats. No Bungie, we aren't quiting your game at alarming rates, Sony is the problem".

First it was Microsoft being -blam!- over Halo Then Activision had to be left because they were too controlling even talking badly about them including in the Shadowkeep ViDoc, saying they wanted to have crossplay but never could cause they were with Activision. Now we are on to Sony being a problem and forcing layoffs of key employees. Are you seeing a pattern already? Cause I'm not even done yet This all was happening while seperately, they were under Playstation division of Sony, and Destiny 1 came out with some hot exclusivity, even to the point they were allowed to get Hawkmoon, exclusive strikes, and more, but we were told we were not allowed to because we were Xbox kids. That then abruptly turned into Bungie claiming Microsoft is the best actually and everything was put on Gamepass. But then that was removed with zero warning, and now it is Playstation Plus cause -blam!- Microsoft, again..... There is certain people in this world who tend to claim everyone that happens to come in their lives, are abusers. They do it as a smoke show and are actually the problems themselves There is alot of aubsive people in this world but when some is claiming 100% of the people they meet are abusing them, there's something seriously wrong there and it's time to start avoiding them....

Just as one last thing. Why the -blam!- did we literally just get forced to wait 5 months without anything coming towards us as a period that was on top of the year long wait for DLCs, and we literally were told they needed it to avoid employees being forced to "chrunch" to make their deadlines? So that is 5 months we were extremely willing to accept a delay. But now Final Shape is literally being delayed too cause those employees needing the time, were fired anyways? -blam!- off with this Bungie.
1 ReplyAnd as always, executives will get bonuses and raises no matter how poorly the company performs.

Hold up. Wait just a -blam!- minute. Did you say that Bungie had a "quality assurance" team? Bull-blam!-! This whole story is fake news.
-
Sony is in financial trouble, Bungie appears to be floundering, despite the insistence otherwise. I’m just saying, I agree this is likely Sony, but there’s zero evidence of that beyond speculation.

A lot of the community knew this was coming! Just a really sad way for destiny to fizzle out 👎

2 RepliesSo, this wasn't really about Bungie or what state it leaves Destiny in but a way to push a political agenda? Sneaky.

Well said.
